This week in Penguin's "DC/Marvel at the Animated Movies" thread, it's time for Marvel's first direct-to-video animated feature, the 2006 release titled Ultimate Avengers. Which IMO was not that bad for a first effort, but a major disappointment to anyone expecting Mark Millar's 'Ultimates' in motion.

<= Click the poster to view a trailer for the film.

Here are the Comics Shipping Lists for Wednesday, April 21st 2010: Diamond / Midtown Comics / Marvel / DC / Image / Dark Horse

HOT!!! :O

Those Power Girl covers are damn hot. I'm gonna be getting it past issue 12 for the art alone. Hot damn.

Instead of hitting the comic shop this week, well aside from PG and GL, I'll just be ordering stuff online. My LCS hasn't had a lot of stuff I want lately.

Also, I ordered Absolute Green Lantern Rebirth from work. My first Absolute edition, so let's see if I'd want to get more.

Also also, Superman Birthright? Fantastic.

Yep!

I've got it pre-ordered.

Unfortunately, or fortunately as it's the last leg for a lot of indies to stand on, Great Big Comics is going all digital for the rest of this series. :(

Hopefully they'll get a run of it in trade down the road.

I don't know what to make of Brightest Day. . .

Is (not)Deadman a White Lantern now?

In regards to the Power Girl cover, don't tell me they brought back Tera who died during the Judas Contract arc of the Teen Titans. Seriously, they just screwed one of the best comic book deaths ever.

Also, in regards to the JSA cover, how did Jade return?

It's a different Terra.

Also, Blackest Night.

Ultimate Spiderman and Avengers for me.

Is this issue the end of Ultimate Avengers and next one starts up Ultimate Avengers 2?

From what I've seen it looks like Millar is doing it like the original Ultimates with each arc being it's own mini of sorts.

Edit: Nevermind I looked up next week's shipment and Ultimate Avengers 2 #1 is listed so I guess it is.

I'm so happy that Ultimate Avengers wasn't an animated The Ultimates.

I read that this past weekend, and it just turned me off to the series. It just seems like Millar wanted to pervert the Marvel universe. :(

Anyhow, comics!

GREEN LANTERN #53 (BRIGHTEST DAY)
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #44

This is a terrible name for a comic book.

Well that's an abbreviation of "Who Won't wield the Shield" which itself is a play on the "Captain America: Who will wield the Shield" that released a while back.

I'm gonna buy...wow, nothing I'm really interested in coming out this week. Maybe I'll get that Second Coming issue because they left New Mutants at an evil cliffhanger with Karma getting her leg ripped off. Naturally they're only going to follow up with it here because the X-office are still living in 1994 and never learned how to compartmentalize this crossover stuff properly. Of course that probably makes me the sucker here.

I might get Vagabond big volume 6. And maybe the second Secret Warriors HC. The first one rocked.

Female Thor is hot. The lights on her chest remind of that scene in Dumb and Dumber though. :lol

Crap, haven't seen that movie since it came out in theaters. Can't remember. :(

I think that's Valkyrie. lol, I read it; but fucked if I have time to remember this shit. :P

Jeez, could you spoiler tag that shit? Never mind people like me who are just behind but others wait for trades.

Just read Ultimate X #2, god damn. Art Adams is AMAZING! I've known this for years; but he hasn't done much monthly work in the past decade. So good to see him back and kicking ass.

FEB100118 GREEN LANTERN #53 (BRIGHTEST DAY) $2.99
FEB100255 JOE THE BARBARIAN #4 (OF 8) (MR) $2.99
FEB100478 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #628 $3.99
DEC090470 ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS #6 $3.99
FEB100472 ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #9 $3.99

Batman Streets of Gotham #11
Green Lantern #53
JLA #44
Power Girl #11
Supergirl #52
Tiny Titans #27

Amazing Spidey #628
Fall of the Hulks She Hulk #2
Hercules Fall of the Avenger #2
Her-oes #1
Xfactor #204
X-men Legacy #235

Farscape #6

this crossover in Supergirl makes no sense to me :/

So excited for Brave and the Bold, but would it have killed DC to let Cliff Chiang do the cover????

Also, this may be a sad wednesday cuz it may be my last weekly dose of Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova, but
at least they've made nova have a happy ending with namorita being resurrected.

Any word on the next issue of LOEG: Century? I think the last one came out april or may last year, so is about time for the next one if they keep the once a year format.

What have they done to the White Queen? >:(

Yes, because she was always presented as a modest women.

Her first introduction had her wearing a bustier and a g-string. I doubt there's much Marvel can do to the White Queen.

yeah I know its a play on "who will wield the shield", but it just sounds kinda stupid to me imo. I'll end up picking it up regardless though, I'm a sucker for Captain America.

Any guesses as to who the
robed figure in bandages and green chains is? A lost Guardian of Oa?

...Really? Wonder Woman said that? Wonder Woman? O_o

Whoa. Definitely anticipating GL #52 after that preview.

The illustrator on the book just has a weird style.

Emma used to look like a woman. Now she's dangerously skirting the child body with adult woman sexual characteristics of an anime character. :\

Hmmm Amanda Conners doing more cover work for Marvel lately. Could she be headed there after her run on PG? :O

I picked up Brave and the Bold this week on a whim, and it was probably the best comic I read this week.

I mean it is a little out of character until you see the reveal at the end. And then it kind of becomes heart-warming and breaking at the same time.

After reading GL 52, I cannot wait to see what they have in store for Larfleeze.
The shot of him
in LexCorp holding Sayd by the head with his feet
was pretty great. Also his desire to acquire
land
should take some interesting twists and turns.
Even though I'm really not a big fan of Guy, I'm curious to see what he and
Ganthet have planned with Atrocitus. Surely it has to be more than the Lobo fight that's already been spoiled in the solicitations. Especially since Guy mentioned he can never be friends with Hal again after this
.

At this point I'm more interested in the stories of the other Corps and the robed person
capturing the emotional avatars
than whats going on with
the White Battery
.

Yup. Like I said, it's so much more fun. Everything's just blown wide open. Love it.

Joe The Barbarian #4 was great, as usual. :D

Still meh on Fade To Black, but this issue was definitely an improvement over the first.
