Command and Conquer officially announced for PSP

BUY A PSP.

Besides, the analog nub is far better for mousing than, say, 3D platforming controls. Fuck, I'd take it over the stylus in lieu of a real mouse.

The DS' appallingly low resolution makes it pretty much useless for RTS titles.

how come u haven't been banned yet ?

Let's talk screen real estate, shall we? Which would YOU rather play an RTS on?

Let's say we want to take things vertically for TATE mode~!

The last pic definitely made me laugh. :lol

Though I vastly prefer touchscreen controls, I can't complain. A portable C&C is better than none. To cut you crazy spiteful folks at the pass; "no C&C is even better", har har yeah I heard it all.

Meh, i allways far prefered AoE to C&C anyway........if this was about AoE i might be pissed but i really don't care about C&C. At all.

I'm an AoE/Rise of Nations fan myself. That said, I wouldn't be pissed no matter what platform it came on - I own both. I am not pleased that the DS Age of Empires II is an Age of Wonders turn-based type thing, though. Never liked Age of Wonders.

Then there's no reason whatsoever it would be on psp. DS userbase dwarves psp, it'd be cheaper to make, and the ds is an easy as hell system to work with.

at the moment. There are other issues such as cost of publishing, relationship with the hardware owner.

Anyway, my point was simply that games don't necessarily end up on the best platform because at the end of the day its down to publishers to decide - not us, and not the developer (this last point being the reason PS3 will succeed however difficult it is to program for, BTW)

Awesome news - it should look amazing on that screen. I wonder if it's a brand new game in the series. (or a port)

it's in the right platform. better screen , resolution, graphics. i dont recall having to touch a screen to direct my units in RTS games but that's just me......

I played Red Alert 2 on my dad's laptop a few years ago and it was really easy to get into the controls. The laptop had a stick instead of a touch pad, so I guess having the game on psp won't be a problem (unless the psp stick sucks, but from what I heard it's a good stick).
After seeing the screen sizes I think having it on PSP is actually the better idea :)

I remember having the news first broken to me too :D
*memories of last month*

I would honestly rather play it on DS. Considering both screens as one lengthways unit the resolution isn't bad at all... and the touch screen is really screaming out for games like this. There's nothing to stop us zooming in out, or even rotating the action for the angles we want either if it's done properly.

I actually think there's a chance these may come to DS though. Exclusives aren't in EAs nature.

Yeah, I've played RTS games on consoles before...hell, I played the shit out of Dune 2 for Genesis back in the days. And of course it works...but I think it would work a lot better on a touch screen...being able to select units faster and with greater precision. Almost like having a mouse. Concerning resolution, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem if they only tried. And I never really saw graphics as the high-point in RTS games anyway.

The top screen of the DS isn't touch screen -- how would you select units on it? You have basically HALF the available real estate available for selection. The rest is useless.

Couple that with shitty resolution and you can see that the DS isn't exactly ideal for RTS offerings.

ADOOOOOOOOOSH.

He's right folks. You just know the top screen is gonna be all stats occupied and pre-rendered animations and shit. :)

I hope this is true. The only problem I see is that PSP doesn't seem to support single disc play (yet?). I doubt I could get someone else to get the game for some multiplay, but I guess there's always internet-play.

Despite all that nonsense... the touchscreen allows for much better manipulation of an RTS. It has been tried before on consoles (with actual analog sticks) and has FAILED miserably. How would it be any different on the PSP?

Failed miserably according to whom? You? My first RTS ever was C&C on PSOne and it was perfectly playable. A bit of a learning curve to get the controls down but after that I don't see the big problem.

I played CnC on PS1, and it was playable, but I agree, this would make more sense on a DS. And I *like* CnC, and I don't own a DS (and do own a PSP).

I mean, release it for *both* at least.

Considering the best RTS ever was on PSone (Themepark) and controled with the d-pad at the time, C&C will be fine on PSP...and look and sound better.

Theme Park isn't really a RTS game... It's a sim/builder...
Theme Park was also on a ton of platforms before hitting PSone (PC, Amiga, Mac, Genesis, SNES, Jaguar, 3DO, etc).

So, uh, has this been confirmed? I'd like to see a videoclip of the CNN report before believing this, really.

the potential to have better sales is always a good reason

So you're basically affirming that you've never played Freedom Fighters or Kingdom Under Fire, I take it?

Themepark is a real time strategy title. I'd say calling it a builder is just a way to apart it from combat rts's.

Theme Park was also on a ton of platforms before hitting PSone (PC, Amiga, Mac, Genesis, SNES, Jaguar, 3DO, etc).

Thanks Mr. Obvious.

my dad doesn't play a lot of games, he really likes rts games though (and Duke Nukem 3D) he played c&c to death on the n64 and loves dune 2000 on the pc (he didn't like the sequal) he bought starcraft 64 from oz a month ago and is currently playing it to death.

If the DS was a 20" touchscreen then I would agree about a DS version being potentially better.

The PSP 4.3" Widescreen allows for so much more real estate to use on the screen. RTS games would be a garbled mess on that 3" DS screen!

My wild speculation based on nothing:

PSP Clie Pack

- Overlay touchscreen/keyboard
- Stylus
- Web browser
- Email client
- Address book
- Calendar
- PSPnote
- PSPix
- Calculator

$49.99
