Okay, just today, when I'm just doing my stuff like always, my computer's monitor blanked out on me and then gave me a BSOD (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA seems to be experiencing problems, and I have no idea what that is). The screen urges me to either update my Windows, or remove any faulty software/hard drivers. Now my computer finally booted, and I haven't install anything for quite a while, so I don't know what to do. Plus, I have SP2 installed a while ago without any problems too. Please help !

Unless this is a recurring problem I seriously wouldn't get worked up about it.

EDIT: Ah ok yeah sounds like your RAM may be kicking the bucket. Pull some of it out and try to boot up again, if it does then play the swap game til you figure out which one is bad. That's what I'd do.

Maxtor 30Gig HD
448MB RAM
Asus A7N8X motherboard (on board Geforce 4 MX graphic card)
CD-ROM

Let's all the major components of my computer, from all that I can remember off the top of my head.

Now my computer won't really boot up, as it's stuck on the first phase with "2.0MB RAM"... did my RAM just died ?

A friend of mine who said she got the exact same error last year told me that this is actually a virus...

BSOD can be caused by any number of things. Of course now the obvious question has to be asked.

Are you running anti-viral software and if so have you been updating it, etc.

I use Norton Coperate Edition, and I update it frequently. My newest reference file is October 6, 2004, which is the newest LiveUpdate has. I also scan my computer periodically with AdAware and Spybots S&D, although they are quite unrelated to viruses. I have SP2 now and I have its firewall turned on as well.

It may either be:

1. Nothing
2. Bad RAM
3. Something else

If it is stuck at the RAM counter and you power it off wait 10s, turn it back on it gets stuck there again I'd start removing ram and insert the different ones to see if the PC boots up.

Try running your memory clock a little slower. For example if you have it set at 200MHz set it as 166MHz, if you have it at 166MHz set it as 133MHz.

It could very well be that your memory is not fully compatible with your mobo, I know I got those errors with Kingston KVR-333 memory with my A7N8X Deluxe. So I sold it. If what I suggested above solves the problem you can either live with it going slower or sell your memory and buy something better for your board.

Assuming you can get into your BIOS, check your system temp & voltages.

If you can't do that, then you've got a hardware problem. Are you good with pulling & replacing hardware? If the answer is "no", then don't do anything. Find a friend who is, or take it to a shop. Or read up on it and have enough $ to replace anything you fry.

Sometimes I can get into BIOS if my computer can load that far, some other times it just won't boot up (blank screen). I've had this computer's setup for almost 2 years, so I don't see if the program can be due to compatibility. As for the running my memory clock slower, I don't know how to do that, teach me. How does that help though ? Lastly, what about my system voltage and temperature ? My computer had been working here in my new place for a few months, so I don't think if that's the problem.

If you're willing to risk it, try this:

1. Get a can of compressed air or something similar.
2. Unplug all the cables from the back of the computer. Especially the power cord.
3. Open up the case and touch some bare metal part. In fact, keep a hand on
some bare metal part as long as you're fiddling around in there.
4. Take the system outside and dust it out.
5. Bring it back in, and remove any cards and memory DIMMs.
6. Take the system back out again and dust the slots.
7. Carefully reinstall memory and only the vital cards (like video).
Leave out extra cards like network and sound, etc.
8. Plug in power, video, keyboard, and see if it boots.
Make sure your CPU fan is spinning.
9. Remove the power, video, keyboard plugs.
10. If it was okay, then plug in the rest.
11. Otherwise, start swapping parts until it works.
12. Close case.

Don't mess with the CPU itself unless you know what you're doing or you're willing to learn by breaking it.

download MemTest86 and test EACH DIMM, meaning one at a time, for about 6-8 hrs. each. See if you get any errors; if you don't, memory is not an issue and you can cross that off the list of potential issues...

The thing is that my computer is so unstable right now that it will not be able to run for more than 2 minutes... nevermind 6 hours to test the DIMMs.
