Computer Help Thread aka I need help

I have a computer that doesnt work due to a damaged motherboard and I have purchased a new one that will arrive in about a week. One of the harddrives on the old computer is really new (month old), but contains the OS on it with 120 gigs of freespace, and the other is the slave that is full with 60 gigs of data. Is there any way I can keep the 60 gigs of files on the slave harddrive and just slide it into an empty bay on my new comp? Will that even work? If that doesn't work, is there anyway to transfer the data externally? I do not have a dvd burner. Also, I realize since the 120 gig harddrive has the OS on it, I'll have to reformat that to get it to work properly on my new computer, how would I go around doing that with the new computer? Basically, how do I wipe it clean of all data so the new computer can recognize it as empty and format it as it sees fit. Thanks.

Assemble computer, attach only 120Gb drive and install your OS, reformatting the drive when you get the opportunity.
Once you're up and running, attach the 60Gb as slave. You should be good to go.

you shouldn't need to change anything. you may have to reformat/OS reinstall on the boot drive, but the slave is good to go. just don't try to boot off it.

I plan to use the harddrive that the new computer comes with as the master harddrive though. How can I set my old computer's master as a slave? If I turn on the new computer with 2 master harddrives will it prompt me to reformat one? I want to know how I can remove the OS from my old harddrive using the new computer basically.

oh. sounds like you want to reformat the 120gb then. still, shouldn't be a problem. boot your computer when you first get it, then throw on the 120gb. reformat that one. then throw the 60gb slave on.

you should be able to get that many drives in even if you're running pide and one optical.

Alright, I'm just afraid that if I boot up a computer with 2 hardrives with an OS on each that it would crash. After I hook up the 2 harddrives and turn the computer on how do I go about reformatting the the 120 gig?
