Conan should just do the avant garde thing and put the show online. Most people don't even watch these shows but for the youtube clips they put online.

Late night shows literally scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the type of viewers. Conan's humor is above that and should utilize his talents elsewhere.

This will probably lead to me watching more of the show. I love Conan, but all of the late night shows feel like they have a lot of filler.

I mean, he did get the Tonight Show. But then

happened.

Martin also believes one-hour weekly will just prove better for the show. Samantha Bee does exactly that, by the way, and she’s made some waves of her own since “Full Frontal” launched on TBS.

Part of the reason for the switch, Martin said, is that late night’s just too crowded and competitive. He added that O’Brien is holding his own, however.

I love Conan, but if he was holding his own then they wouldn't be shifting him to just one show a week.

I'm a Conan fan, but let's be fair: Conan's ratings in the Tonight Show slot were terrible. He just doesn't appeal to a mass audience. Leno does, and NBC brought him back as a result.

As a crazy person who watches every episode, this is going to be quite the adjustment. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I also think it's for the best. One ep a week allows the show to be so much better, allow for more remotes, better sculpted jokes, better guest consistency (though I hope it doesn't mean the end of oddball guests like bread professors!).

I hope that this move was made with him 100% in agreement, and not a "lets try this format before we completely cancel you...". Sadly part of me thinks this may have been somewhat out of Conan's hands, considering the TBS president said this awhile ago.

But yeah, overall this has the potential to be amazing. It's just going to be hard to have 1/4th of Conan after all this time ;_;

Wonder if this means the show as we know is ending with no Andy or the band?
I didn't consider this... don't tease my heart :(

Ah man my initial reaction to this was actually quite positive but after reading this thread it does feel more like a "we're scaling back Conan", hey.. He's clearly the best late night host, such injustice.

We'll see I guess, I stand by that the show probably will be amazing. Hard to doubt Conan's ability to make me laugh, and will a whole week to polish an episode great things could happen.

I wonder if this might be easier on Conan's personal life, and he actually might get a bit more time with his wife and kids while still getting to perform.

Maybe they can finally use the fantasy roots of the franchise now. I was always confused by Conan being a Harvard educated ginger.

NBC vindicated, and he should have never got the tonight show. Only reason he got it was because he threw around his weight, and NBC got scared they would lose his decent audience(which never followed him to the tonight show).

He does good bits, but he's no tonight show host. He isnt compelling enough. Same can be said about Fallon too, who while not being a falling down drunk, has the charisma of a bath towel.

UPDATE: It may happen in the future, but nothing immediate

Conan O'Brien to Remain Nightly, For Now, TBS Boss Kevin Reilly Says

Hollywood Reporter said:
TBS has no immediate plans to tweak late-night staple Conan.

Despite news reports claiming that the Turner-owned cable network planned to shift Conan O'Brien's daily late-night show to a weekly format, TBS executives stress that there are no current plans to do so at this time.

"Conan remains an invaluable franchise, partner and producer for our TBS brand and we'll be in business with him for a long time," TBS president Kevin Reilly said in a statement. "As the media landscape continues to evolve, Conan will continue to lead the evolution of what a talk show will be in the digital age. At this time, we have no plans to change the format or frequency of his popular TBS show. In addition to Conan's daily responsibilities to his talk show, we continue to have very ambitious plans that will further broaden and evolve our relationship with Conan."

Yeah Late night is tough when you are up against Kimmel, Colbert, Fallon, and Noah. And in the general comedy genre, you're also competing with the likes of Adult Swim, which takes a good chunk of Conan's viewer demo. This is a good decision, I know I'll start to DVR his weekly show now that its going to be on once a week instead of 4 times a week

I haven't even been able to watch in years because I just don't have time. But I'd probably be able to watch if it's just one a week.

Conan is the best and I wish the best for him. If this means more separate clips and skins and specials I'm super down. Conan out in the world is the best, but even behind a desk he's magnificent.

Legit tears. End of an era... and by era I mean most of my life.

I think it makes sense both creatively and business wise but I don't give a Jub-Jub about sense right now.
