Considering selling largely unused PC in favor of PS4 Pro, want advice on sale method

Your prerogative!

But uh...i'd advise against hasty action. This isn't a PS5 we're talking about, and unless your computer is significantly outdated...it's still probably stronger than PS4P....

This bizarre subset of gamers who desperately want their consoles to be PCs but for whom PC gaming remains some arcane form of witchcraft is a GAF creation. The same people who "don't want to spend hours tweaking settings" also don't want to throw their console in the gutter every couple of years and buy another for some marginal IQ upgrades for some games.

Do it. I sold my high end a year ago.
Never looked back. PC made be obsessed, I barely was able to enjoy games.
All I cared about was how can I make the game run the best, with the best possible graphics.
I spent hours in the menu every-time. And let's not forget all the bad ports, pretty much every single triple A game. And all the errors and nonsense. Then I go to PC game forums and thousands upon thousand of posts about people having problems with the game. Not worth it. (Go check the PC performance threads on here, every time a game comes out. So sad). On my ps4, I put the disk in, update and play. If there is a problem (extremely rare), it's the developer's fault, no tinkering around needed, so beautiful.

Most online games on PC are filled with hackers, or dead on arrival, or die within months. infinite warfare right now is dead. Battlefront when it came out died quickly. Division was unplayable, due to hackers. F that.

I only care about 60 fps in a handful of games (fast arcade and fps). 30fps stable is 100% playable for me on consoles, even for some first person shooters. Destiny runs like a dream.
Modding is a pro of PC games. But I don't care anymore. It's a waste of time. By the time I finish a moddable game, there is another big game waiting for me to play, my backlog is huge, and there are always games coming out.

And I hate the PC elitists. with their "Build your rig" mentality. F off.

And my ass that PC gaming is cheaper. I have saved a ton of money by going the consoles route. Yes you pay for online buu it's cheap and you get a lot of free games that I would not have played otherwise.
I buy my games dirt cheap on black friday, and I have GCU from best buy I get a shit ton of discounts on new games. And when I'm done, my friend borrows it and I borrow his, and then I sell my games. You can't do that on Steam. Also PSN does a lot of giant sales. PC gaming is not cheaper in the longer run, another lie PC gamers want to believe to make themselves feel better.

This whole elitist mentality of some PC gamers pisses me off. The fact you pay a couple hundred dollars more than console gamers and you waste countless of hours tinkering around the options and configs does not make you elite or master by any means.I bet most of them drive crappy four cylinder cars.

You will love the PS4, it's like night and day compared to PS3. It's a system made for gaming, all the things they added to the OS, and the DVR. I also love trophies, and how they improved the ecosystem and the community.

You can downgrade your PC to get some money and still play xbox exclusives and that good AAA PC exclusive that comes out every two years(if any), or just sell it and later buy a cheap one . I just sold mine and might put together a cheapo one soon for CIV6 (if it doesnt come to consoles) and xbox games. But first, I'm waiting for the scorpio, to see whats what.

Good luck.
So much misinformation in this post.

Finally, we see the real point of this thread; Giving console warriors a place to vent out their outdated myths and talking points and put down PC gaming in the wave of the glorious PS4 Pro hype. Can't let anything get in the way of that!

If you have zero interest in PC gaming then try to sell it for as much as possible. How much other people enjoy the PC has no bearing on you so just do what you want.

Op, this is really the only thing that needs said.

Op, you are the only one who really knows if you want to keep your PC or not.
If you don't really need it then selling it is more sensible than watching it gather dust.
If you change your mind later down the line you can always buy a new one.

Complete opposite with me. If the game comes out on pc I will get it for that first. It's at the point now where I barely touch my ps4 I wouldn't sell it but I certainly won't upgrade it with the pro.

You either did that in 2005 or never had a PC.

I made my decision back then but I have to say about elitism at least that it is completely disgusting today, worst than ten-fifteen years ago. For example, I had to stop visiting 9gag for this shit. I have fan once with this app.

Absolutely disgusting.:(

You'll notice how the 'have to drop hundreds of dollars every few years to stay current' talking point disappeared from the usual platform warrior repertoire now that consoles have started mid-gen upgrades. Resolution didn't matter last gen until consoles could do 1080p and then it was worthy of -gate. Round and round we go.

I expect 'I don't want to have to tweak settings every time I play a game' to go away soon too now that PS4 Pro patched games will have multiple graphics presets available.

It's always a problem when it's on the other side and not your own. And it's never an advantage until your side has it.

Activate the defence force!!!

They've assembled and formed Voltron already.

Ohhh, you meant the PC defense force? All I see are people giving opinions on their personal use with PCs and calling out crazy myths that haven't been true about PC gaming for close to 10 years. I guess honesty has a defense force but why would that be a bad thing?

You either did that in 2005 or never had a PC. Your post is full of hyperbole and cliches all around and contradictions on top of that.

As for tinkering, that all comes down to you. If you feel obsessed, the problem comes from you.

Bad ports ? All AAA releases ? There's only a handful titles that deserves to be called bad ports. Even Batman Arkham Knight, which had a lot of troubles, still would be considered a good console versions if it had the performances of the PC version. Most PC ports called bad ports are often identical to console versions.

Elitism ? That comes from any people. Then again how people's way of acting should come to your purchase decision ?

Games not being cheaper ? That's factually wrong but whatever.

Online filled with hackers ? As I said it was either 2005 or it never happened. That concern might be about either old games or ones with terrible online architecture. Last time I crossed a cheater was 4 years ago on GTA4.

I'm sorry but I disagree with you 100%. First, I just proof read my post again. I do not see any hyperbole, or cliche or any other stuff you are trying to accuse it of to justify your position. Let me start by saying I have nothing against PC gamers, a lot of my good friends I made when I was a PC gamer. Yes "elitism", it is popular in the PC community. I just hate PC elitists. I say it again:
Paying a couple hundred dollars more for your gaming system does not make you an elite or a master race at all. If you think it does, please post a photo of your car.

I'm not saying PC gaming is worse than console gaming. What I am saying is that PC gaming Is not better than console gaming, it's all about options and I'm giving my reasons why I picked A certain option.

I sold my PC right before the new generation GPU came out and when the PS4 neo was leaked. I had a decked out rig with a 980. Yes ports are bad, yes games are way cheaper on consoles, I can borrow games and sell games. Yes online is filled with hackers, you seem to be the one who has not played much since gta 4.
OP is having this conflict in his mind that I had back then, and I'm trying to help him see through it and cross over.

Truth. The cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy is astounding.

This tells me you have a pre-existing bias against PC and your view does not come from a place of reason.

Here we go,
I'm expecting a lot of this. Ad hominem. People trying to justify their investments.
Outdated myths my ass. You know it's all true.

I'm not saying PC gaming is worse than console gaming. What I am saying is that PC gaming Is not better than console gaming, it's all about options and I'm giving my reasons why I picked A certain option.

Why do you feel the need to justify yourself? Are you trying to rationalize a past decision? Games look and perform better on PC, that is fact. No one has said PC gaming is better than console gaming, that is a strawman you've constructed to fuel your self-righteousness.

That's me laughing at people criticising that pro Sony post but completely ignoring the same behaviour from the PC evangelists.

The op shows no signs of believing 'crazy myths' whether for or against PC. In fact his assessment of his own situation sounds quite grounded and rational to me.

Only the Op really knows if he wants his PC or not. If he doesn't, then selling it while he can get some money back is a better choice than allowing it to gather dust, yes?

I'm not getting caught up in this debate, but this post is glorious! May be some hyperbole here but it pretty much matches my sentiments. When I come home from a long day all I want to do is game! Settings, calibration etc....ain't noooobody got time for that. Only thing I envy about PC is higher framerates.

Pc gaming and console gaming both have their positives and negatives. I think the op really needs to make a choice as the pros and cons have fully been laid out. The pc vs console battles here are entertaining yet futile and probably should stop before the thread is closed.

Why do people keep saying this? I play around with the settings for a few minutes when I play the game on PC for the first time. After that it is literally just clicking a tile in my start menu/on steam and playing, which is often faster than loading something up on my PS4 thanks to the SSD.

This will soon be a thing of the past now that we have iterative consoles.

1. You might have OCD.

2. Most online PC games are DOA? you are talking out of your ass.

3. PC gaming is not cheaper but it's far less expensive than some would have you believe, and for what you get, the extra cost is worth it for many. Also PS+ games are not free, you are paying a subscription for them.

4. Yes there are PC elitists just like there are console ones, but a lot of the time console gamers just seem angry that PC gamers feel their platform is superior, which in many ways objectively is (oh no i'm an elitist now!).

5. What's with the bold?

1. You are the one commiting a strawman here. I have never said that people are saying PC gaming is better than consoles.

2. "Why do you feel the need to justify yourself? Are you trying to rationalize a past decision?" Read the damn OP. This is what the thread is about. And the OP is having the same conflict I had 8 months ago.

3. "Games look and perform better on PC, that is fact." . no it is not. PC is not a fixed platform, Jimmy here can barely run minecraft. The right statement is that: Games CAN look and perform better on PC, for the sole purpose that you CAN pay more to get more power.

Here we go,
I'm expecting a lot of this. Ad hominem. People trying to justify their investments.
Outdated myths my ass. You know it's all true.

You won't last long here.

Each platforms has its strengths; the insane amount of vitriol when discussing PC vs. console is hilarious. Play on what is most beneficial to you or fits your needs best.

It's pretty funny how often these platform myths that were disproven years ago keep coming back as weak arguments against one or the other.

It's about preference mate.

I play everything on Consoles, bigger communities, controller, online unification across all games, DLC, friends list, all my friends there etc but I play CS on pc and would never touch it on a Console.

I'd say keep the Pc and play both.

Pc gaming and console gaming both have their positives and negatives. I think the op really needs to make a choice as the pros and cons have fully been laid out. The pc vs console battles here are entertaining yet futile and probably should stop before the thread is closed.

Yup, exactly. Here's another winner.

The op has laid out the situation pretty clearly and give sound reasons for his decisions. Based on the information op provided, if he decides he doesn't need the PC his decision to sell it makes perfect sense. You don't need an expensive PC to browse the Internet and answer your emails.
If he thinks he's gonna make good use of it for games or other heavy graphics work he should keep it.
I don't see the point in people battering him with lists of things he already knows in an attempt to get him 'on their side'.

*bullshit*

You know what I find far more annoying and more prevalent these days? Console warriors who constantly bitch about the [virtually nonexistent] "PC Elitists" that are supposedly running amok on GAF. The same warriors who, ironically, constantly feel the need to tell everyone (especially those PC Snobs!) how much better off they are on consoles (while simultaneously putting down PC gaming) any chance they get.

Maybe it's just my imagination.

I can just set a few things and pkay sometimes, and other tines, I get sucked into the settings for hours. Most of the time, I enjoy the time in the settings but once in awhile I rergret it or let it spoil the game. So I understand that point when it comes up.

5. What's with the bold?

The thing is, I do not have OCD. I just love video games. Read the other posts, alot of people do the same. I never said most online PC games are DOA. Technically PSN plus games are free. You are paying to use online, à la old school xbox live. Tomorrow they can stop giving these free games, of course there will be backlash but nobody is gonna switch to Xbox over it. I like to use bold to make my post easier to read and proofread. Sorry if it annoyed you.
You are not an elitist by preferring PC gaming, you are an elitist when you look down on non PC gamers, and you think that YOU are better for being a PC gamer.

What I do is.

Exclusives on console
Multi-player on console
Single player AAA on pc (fallout, skyrim, bioshock, fsrcry, watchdogs, gta, etcetc)

Sold my gaming PC because I never used it so I know how you feel, OP.

I still have a decent notebook for the occasional PC/Microsoft exclusive (which I buy but never play anyway), but the important thing is to play on a system you enjoy.

Why do people keep saying this? I play around with the settings for a few minutes when I play the game on PC for the first time. After that it is literally just clicking a tile in my start menu/on steam and playing, which is often faster than loading something up on my PS4 thanks to the SSD.

For those who dont like tinkering you even got programs like geforce experience that do the tinkering on your behalf. My 2 year experience being into PC gaming, I tinker as little or as much as I want at any given time. Console gaming has so many updates starting from last gen that the 'plug and play' nature on console is becoming a thing of the past as well.

By making the point 'PC gaming is not better than consoles' you are assuming the context that people are saying PC is better than consoles, otherwise your argument is against nothing but air and would make no sense. I wasn't born yesterday.

This isn't about OP, you are using OP as an excuse to peddle misinformation and attack 'PC elitists' that don't actually exist in this thread.

When you have to split into semantics about my wording then you know you have no basis of argument.

This tells me you have a pre-existing bias against PC and your view does not come from a place of reason.

Nope, just my opinion.

I want to play games without having insecurity voices EVERYWHERE out there about some '' superiority''. When I was kid things were different. Now I just can't...

If you can't accept different opinions maybe you have bias. Just saying.
If you visit 9gag and you accept gaming conversations as legit, it is also weird.

It is your imagination. This is like the only time I talked about this. Because it's the damn subject. Go read the OP.
Usually it is PC elitist that like to mention their PC every chance they get.

What does this even mean?

The game you played yesterday is going to play the same ase it did the day before, and will continue to pla the same tomorrow or a year from now.

Why the hell would you need to dive into settings every time you come home after a long day?

And even then you can pretty much ignore the settings because most pc games are fairly good at detecting your hardware.
Just hit the icon of the game to play and don't worry about anything else..

Here we go,
I'm expecting a lot of this. Ad hominem. People trying to justify their investments.
Outdated myths my ass. You know it's all true.

Can't argue with that

So yes, Most of AAA releases are bad ports, online games are filled with hackers, Infinite Warfare is dead (with 15k concurrent users as we're talking). Battlefield 1 is dead (with 100k concurrent users as of right now), tinkering with games, because 99% of the time, they're not working.

You're right, it's not outdated myths. We're into legends territories now.
