Contrary to popular belief the Switch + PS5 + Xbox Series generation is shaping up to be the most successful home console generation so far

Bob Odenkirk GIF by The Office

Switch 2 - 12 million (per Paul Gale on X), PS5 - 84 million, Xbox Series - 28 - 34 million

For comparison, Switch 2 has almost sold as many units in less than 6 months than the Wii U sold in its entire lifetime.

Sure, but not because the consoles or games are great, but because gaming has become super mainstream compared to 10+ years ago, but ya'll love to ignore this simple fact.

Also, no one has argued that it wasn't a successful gen in terms of popularity.

People are just arguing it's garbage. Believe it or not but tons of popular things are garbage. I'm not sure if you've ever turned on the radio before or turned on your TV.

On the contrary, people are retarded so often popularity is a sign that something is shit.

How much retail software had PS5 sold at the same timeframe as PS4? Switch did great nearing 1.5 billion, PS4 ended up at over 1.1 billion itself, how's PS5 tracking? Seems pretty behind at the moment but Idk how PS4 was launch aligned.

I'm not sure if we can tell, I think Sony usually report combined software sales numbers for both PS4 and PS5.

everyone knows that this gens sold a lot of consoles, who in the name of god says otherwise ?

Also, switch 1 is ps4/xboxone generation and i ll die on that hill.

A combined 1.47B of PS4 and PS5 software units have been sold since PS5's debut in late 2020.

Why throw PS4 software sold into the mix? Because you can literally buy PS4 games from your PS5.

It should be.
If it wasn't there would be a huge issue.
There are significantly more "gamers" than there were 25 years ago.
If new consoles can't out sell a PS1 then our hobby is dying.

With ps5 they'd have more sales if there was a cheaper price tag, PS3 this many years in was at $299.99, a move bundle was at 399.99

And no offensive to PS5 but its launch was kinda weak.

Profits and numbers sold doesn't mean there are great games. It just means people rather stay home because of rising costs and a big virus scare.

I don't know...one of those is a portable/console hybrid released mid-way through last gen, Xbox has been struggling, and the PS5 is keeping pace with PS4.

The last part there to me is this console gen, it's keeping steady. We're past the days of the explosive 2000s, and gaming is still growing but that growth rate is stagnating.

And to be fair, a pandemic, bad economy from that pandemic, graphic hardware stagnating, and AI driving up costs has probably held this gen back artificially.

Why does that matter?

How does you playing games somehow hold more value than someone else playing games?

By the way the casual boom happened in the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii era

They tried to 😭

You just have to accept that everything isn't for you

And we are still lumping Xbox into this "success".

Despite of Xbox decline after the Holidays it's gonna be around 280 million consoles from that generation passing the Xbox 360 + Wii + PS3 generation

PS3, 360, Wii, PSP and DS = 511m

And yes, PSP and DS need to be included when OP includes Switch as Switch Lite could make up 50% of all Switch sales for all we know.

Can you share me an example of someone denying that they are selling successfully?

And I'm not sure what your second sentence has to do with anything. Taylor Swift is the most popular musician in the world and I can still believe that it's crap, and it's not just some sort of subjective bias.

Switch is really in between so you can't count it fully toward the new gen, IMO.

Also, we lost basically the previous handheld market as Switch encompasses that. So DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita (😢), the whole product line is gone.
