post some cool/weird musical instruments

i really want a marimba (but theyre expensive) and i came across something else called a kalimba. then i went down a rabbit hole of weird/cool instruments i want to play and i was wondering if you gaffers had any others you think are cool (or just weird) that we can all check out.

***bonus points for posting a video of you playing your weird/cool instrument!***

Um, I'm not sure if it counts as weird, but the Shamisen (Japanese old-timey 3-string guitar). The two women in the centre are playing it.

Just bought an Aerophone yesterday, a digital wind instrument:

It uses the same finger positions as a saxophone (Which I have no experience with). You can plug in headphones so neighbours/family aren't bothered by your practice, and it has a large internal sound library for all kinds of instruments as well as synth sounds. It hasn't arrived yet, hopefully I end up liking it.

I've always loved the sound of sax but never tried because it seems too expensive and too much of a chore, but that venova looks amazing, I want one of those.
Here in France, there are musical schools that are financed by the government in most medium/big cities so you can get cheap lessons and they also lend you an instrument.
I actually bought a sax before taking lessons (because i knew i wanted one) but maybe you could find something similar or just rent one for a month or two and get a few lessons to see if you like it.
I found it much easier to play than guitar (and much more satisfying too), i think i just wasn't made for guitar :D

Wow i had never heard of that one :D gonna check it out.

Theremin is the best weird instrument

Also Pete Drake’s talking guitar. Really early version of auto tune.

The second one looks like some kind of early vocoder :D

I played the Kalimba for awhile. There are different variations of them here in Mexico. They all have the same idea as the African kalimba, though. There's also a double-kalimba (two rows of keys).

here are some other uncommon instruments...the Peruvian charango, Suzuki Omnichord (Mark Mothersbaugh used one of these on the DEVO song "Patterns"), and the guitar harp.

oh id say most of those instruments count as weird :messenger_tears_of_joy: but also very cool! in fact, i enjoyed the shit out of that performance. the music was beautiful, the players were fantastic and jsut the whole presentation was so awesome. thanks for sharing.

I really love the sound of the didgeridoo - it sounds like a wild animal singing or something like that, I just love it.

Like a Storm is a band from New Zealand that mixes the sound of it with Rock and Metal and it blends so well.

Listen to it right at the beggining:

The instrument looks like this:

I posted in this thread yesterday. Depending on the album/ep...I played what may be considered weird instruments in some of them. The recent releases (Colours Vol 1 & 2) are very instrumental and I believe the track on Colours Vol 2 (Colours 5 or something like that) has a Chinese Hulusi being played to overdubs of mandolin and piano. I had a hulusi and Japanese Shakuhachi a few years ago. I mess with all kinds of flutes in studio.
