Cordcutters, what are my options?

We have only Comcast in our area so we're basically screwed. This is what they're "offering" (including taxes)

1) Lowest tier internet for $60/month. Only basic channels in HD.

2) Lowest tier internet with lowest tier channel selection in HD for $97/month. This tier has some of the channels I watch, such as CNN, Travel and Discovery.

Now I have Option 2 selected. I recently added HBO, so my bill jumped to about $115-$120.

I have PS4 and Amazon Fire TV. I would love to have my setup currently but with a different service, but I fear that Internet is going to tie me down to Comcast. Is my current setup the cheapest option for what I want, or is there a better deal somewhere?

I thought I had it bad...60 for the 25mbps speed? Im paying comcast 60 for my 150 MB and I feel like I'm getting ripped off.

My suggestion (and what I do) is pay comcast for internet.
Check PS Vue for the channels they offer on the 35 dollar plan ($40 maybe i dont remember).
Pay 15 bucks a month for hbo now.

Actually doing the math my way doesnt save you you money.

Your current might be better. Also check that thread posted above.

you have probably 20-30 options none of which will cover everything, but all of together will cover most everything which will be as expensive or more than internet + TV

there are some really good options. Its just really hard to manage.

your going to have to get some other subscription like sling to get discovery. Discovery doesnt put anything on hulu/netflix except for like mythbusters.

It'd be easiest to list the channels you watch and their priority, and go from there. You're likely going to make some sacrifices in terms of getting everything you want, and/or convenience but will make up for it in a lower bill, assuming you don't run over the 1TB cap (after 3 strikes it's $50/GB) or subscribe to a whole bunch of services.

Remember you're gonna pay that to HBO regardless so I wouldn't necessarily count that as part of your cable bill. If you want access for GoTs you gonna pay the same amount for HBO Now.

What I don't get is your internet? You should be able to get double play (no phone) with like the 75 Mbps plan and X1 for what you're paying from Comcast.

Check out PS Vue if you want to drop the cable portion.

Even still I'm confused about your internet.

What's this "outside" you speak of.

It's the place you go to with these:

Yesterday PS Vue raised all of their prices.

I suggest Sling. Works great for me. Depending on the package you select, you can have Sling +HBO for 35 or 40 monthly.

This is your best bet. Below is a link to a channel comparisons for the different providers.

PS vue raised all their prices, so im looking at sling/hulu right now, especially cause the channels PS vue has been adding have been horrible and theyve just been removing big name ones

Bolded the part that I'm confused about. Lowest Tier Internet should be internet only - no channels included at all, and cheaper. If they're telling you that you have to get TV with it, they're lying to sell you :P. It should be ~$30-40 for their lowest internet package.

This is what I'm confused at as well.

We go:

PS Vue ($35 package)
Netflix
Hulu

Totals around $52 a month, and our cable is locked at $25 for two years (Charter)

We just had DirecTV come to our house and offer $40 for two years, so we're weighing our options again.

I tried this route (Comcast Blast internet for $80 + PS Vue for $45) and I ended up saving nothing and just got less channels.

Comcast continues to hold my nuts firmly in their giant hands.

is it possible to subscribe to PS Vue in a different zip code then you currently are in? I ask as I'm in Dallas, I am a Green Bay Packer fan, thus for NFL season the smartest bet to me would be to buy PS Vue with a Wisconsin zip code so I always get locally broadcast games. Do they have things in place to prevent that?

Depending on his area Comcast may have different plans/pricing.

Someone above mentioned the $60 150 mbps download service. I was a recent comcast customer. I live in the Atlanta metro area. I couldn't get that price.

So, for internet only if I resigned with no contract:

10 mbps: $35 month plus taxes and fees

25 mbps: $67 a month plus taxes and fees

75 mbps: $80 a month plus taxes and fees

150 mbps: $75 per month plus taxes and fees

300 mbps: $100 a month plus taxes and fees

The double play options without a contract are also terrible.

The 75 mbps + tv double play starts at $105 plus taxes and fees in my area.

For the record, I have google fiber and PS Vue for $85 a month now.

I'd hate to see the options he has if Comcast has no competitor to worry about when it comes to Internet.

I'm almost positive they go off of billing zip code.

Either way they do some sort of geo lookup to verify you're at home because here's restrictions on what you can watch outside what they have set as your home.

Just a heads-up. Comcast may not offer you that $60/month if you go internet only. I just cut the chord and they told me m only option was $80/month. Switching to At&t soon. I'm using PSVue BTW. Like it so far, but I think their subscription rates are going up.

I find ad free regular Hulu to be more than enough.

Netflix is only good if you like their shows, I don't.

--Comcast Basic Tier, non-HD (Still get all the basic cable channels in HD through Xfinity streaming on my PC & Chromecasting) You don't even need the converter box if you just stream through your PC.
--Comcast Performance Internet (25D/5U) - also, buy your own Modem and Router so you don't pay Comcast a monthly rental fee.
--An HD antenna (all local channels in HD)
--Netflix
--HBO Now (just during Game of Thrones months)

Altogether, it comes to like $134 a month. EDIT - it's more like $125 a month, if even that.

-that's all I got and all I want.

My Spectrum internet/HD cable package plus netflix is cheaper than this. I think you might be getting a bad deal.

I cut the cord about 5 year ago with great success, and I'm married with two kids. I do cheat a little, but for the most part this is what I use.

*note : Over the last 10 years I've tried every media center option available, upside down, inside out, custom configs, custom artwork all sorts of shit. In the end, the king is what is the most simple, friendly UI that is family friendly to use.. Trust me on this.

All TV's in my house have the following :

Roku
Over-the-Air HD antenna

I use my OTA antenna, and pickup over 70 HD channels broadcasting in 1080i for free in my area. These include core local channels, so I get to watch NFL games for free in HD every fall. My wife occasional will watch live TV this way as well on these channels. I have my TV optical out to my surround too, so I get 1080i and 5.1 audio for free over the air.

On my Roku I have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Go and a Plex server with hundreds of movies I converted. I also have Disney Junior, WatchESPN PBS Kids, Youtube and endless other channels. I don't pay for Netflix, HBO Go or ESPN etc.. My father in law-gave me his Uverse login which I use to get access to all of those for free, same for Netflix. My wife pays for Amazon Prime once a year, thats it. The rest is 100% free. My works pays for my internet too, so for TV and Internet .. its basically...

Individually:

Comcast Digital Economy Package: $37.95/month
Comcast Performance Internet: $61.95
Netflix HD 2 screens $9.99/month
HBO Now: $15/month

Ok, it's more like $124.88 to be more precise.

But I only get HBO Now for 2 months a year for GoT episodes. So, it's not even $124 a month on average.

I don't even have a landline phone anymore - I'm strictly cellular with that.

I had this conversation with CC too. Without basic cable subscription, my internet was actually higher (or the same). $60/month was the best internet offer.

Honestly. With all the channels that I actually want to watch, and triple play in my area, the cord is now cheaper than this grab bag of packages.

A lot of cord cutters are actually using Kodi and not relying solely on legal streaming options. You may be surprised how high your non-cable bill will be.

Comcast 55Mps + Local Channels $70
Netflix $10
WWE Network $10 (canceling soon)
On air antenna channels
Youtube
Free Movie Apps (Crackle, etc)
Other means......

$90/month.

CenturyLink Gigabit Internet: 80/Mo
PS Vue: 45/Mo (55/Mo in October)
Antenna through Xbox for locals

Get free HBO and a 40 cable subsidy through work, so I'm really just paying for Internet. Don't count Hulu/Netflix because I'd be paying for them anyway. But this covers 95% of our needs.

Anyone use HBO via amazon prime? Thinking of subbing just for GOT season. I don't have any other video subs right now besides amazon prime so this would be my easiest option.

I have Comcast with blast speed (aka the bullshit term for their fastest non-business class Internet) with hbo and no HD tacked on for like $85. I basically said I only want internet, the fastest available, and no tv. They jumped through like 50 hoops/discounts to get me to agree to put a cable box that I never use in my apartment.

I do:
Netflix ($10)
HBO Now ($15)
Amazon Prime ($100/year or ~8/month)
occasional iTunes rental as they have a lot of good stuff that will never be on the above services (indie films, new releases, etc) (approx. $4/month)

Total is about ~$37/month.
Internet connection is part of included utilities. Only 15 down / 2 up but im not complaining.

Thinking about adding Filmstruck for another 11-12.

I recently switched from Vue back to cable and I am now saving over 30 bucks a month between Vue's price increase and the great deal my local cable company is running right now (internet + standard cable-ESPN, AMC, etc, for $80/month, for first year) considering I was paying $60/month for internet alone(due to jump to 75 month next month) I feel like I had no choice. Add in HBO to TV package for $15/month and it's around $95/month.

Vue was $60/month for core+ HBO and so it was gonna 135/month for Vue. Even the year 2 rate on Cable is gonna be less than that.

Oh and I get Comedy Central and my local Fox sports back(for some reason Vue would not give me the right one no matter how many times I bugged them for it)

no offense but I hate posts like this. You didn't cut the cord and the only reason your successful is you use someone else's "corded" sub. The only thing in your post that's feasible for everyone to do is OTA antenna and Netflix etc.

Yeah he's just a leech, and when cable companies finally combat the leechers, all of a sudden many "cord cutters" are going to whine and become entitled assholes demanding their free cable back.
