Costco is test-marketing coffins at two stores in Chicago. The caskets are basic steel and cost $800, but local customers had trouble taking it seriously.

"I don't think caskets and barbecued chicken are a really good mix," one said.

At Fouche's Funeral Home in Oakland, mortician Rosa Montgomery said she had concerns -- not about losing business but mixing death and discount.

"It takes away from dignity we are trying to provide," Montgomery said. "We are commercializing."

I can just imagine someone walking out with like a valuepack of 6 coffins, family value.
