Not on a single song, but wasnt that televised Haiti earthquake relief thing Wyclef put together pretty stacked in terms of getting a group together to perform for Humanitarian reasons?

The appeal of those songs is they came from an era where those people were loved by just about everyone. Music today is more diverse than it used to be in terms of genres, fan base, etc. It would be difficult to find a group of musicians that are universally loved in the way those artists were.

Yup, exactly this. Pop culture is too segmented now.

I hadn't really thought of it like that. thats a good point.

GungHo

Single-handedly caused Exxon-Mobil to sue FOX, start World War 3
I don't see why they would. Even things like Live Aid or the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS awareness are kind of things of a bygone era. We consume entertainment and donate to causes differently these days. I could see where they might all agree to donate proceeds from iTunes for a set period of time to a specific cause.

I think with social media, music stars today are so overexposed. You can listen to their music/watch them on youtube 24/7. You can even chat with them on twitter.

Nowadays a gathering like this, even for a good cause, tends to be kind of meh.
