Anybody that invest in a Nuby,Pelican, or any inferior arcade stick needs help. Only trust arcade sticks made by people like SEGA,Mas Systems or Hori.
1. Both the Nuby and Pelican can be modded with Happ and in some cases Sanwa parts. A $60 investment gets you junk. A $80 investment gets you an arcade stick.

2. MAS has their problems too.

3. Let's see how SEGA does.

Now only if Namco would get into the business now...
They did. They made sticks for the first Playstation. Obviously they didn't make the money they wanted to. Now they let Nuby and Hori do the work for them.

No, the yet un-released special edition comes in either Sanwa or Seimetsu parts.

Never used one. I reckon it'd be pretty decent even without the Sanwa parts. I mainly object to the eight button curved layout. All my days I shall struggle against such things.

Actually, according to this article:

http://www.vgonetwork.com/article.aspx?id=161

The HRAP stick does use real Sanwa parts. I haven't used one myself though so I can't be sure. I'm very interested in the stick though, and the Tekken 5 special bundle.

I'd also be extremely interested in finding out what is new or different about those special edition RAP sticks. They look pretty nice for sure.

the SF:AC stick is good once it's modded (thanks Monk), but out of the box it sorta sucks. highly mediocre quality, the stick itself had a real bad burr on it from putting it together. after modding it with Happs gear, it's sweet.

You can check out some nice quality stuff here, he makes some amazing sanwa gear, it's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

And don't forget, Tekken 5 special edition is coming with A Hori stick. People on other forums are arguing whether it will be a HRAP or not, with Sanwa gear like the arcade machine, but for 100 bucks (stick, game and some other goodies) it's worth it imo.

To end this Sanwa buzzword debate, I was both wrong and right. From armad1llo on SRK, in a review your 'cade sticks thread.

Hori RAP PSX:
85/100 as I appreciate the nice buttons and authentic Sanwa JLF stick. The buttons are Hori and not Sanwa so I mark it down for that. Also I don't like how the JLF is seated, it's a little lower so the stick feels shorter than how it can be. The housing is also way tall. Start and Select are too close to the gameplay cluster. Solid stick though high marks on construction.

So in summary: The RAP has a nice Sanwa stick, but the buttons are still clones.

If anyone is actually interested, it appears that the above is indeed correct.

The current RAP model features a Sanwa stick but not Sanwa buttons.

The two new model RAP sticks however are a different story.

http://www.hori.jp/products/ps2/controller/realarc_pro_s/index.html

Besides looking just flat out gorgeous, the first features ALL Sanwa parts and the second ALL Seimitsu parts as near as I can tell. They release March 31. However, it seems they're only going to be available at horistore.com, which seems to be Japan only.

For me though, the Tekken 5 bundle seems a sweet deal. While the button placement isn't as nice as the new RAP sticks and the Japanese T5 bundle stick, the base really is just sweet. Adding some Sanwa buttons and an octagonal gate, and whatever else, should be a breeze.

It's a shame I probably won't be able to get one where I live.

I personally think having the "perfect stick" is kind of retarded if you are going to be playing competitivley. As long as you can do the moves 70% you should be fine. Each arcade is going to have its own issues with its sticks and you have to learn to deal with decent sticks. If you get spoiled, you go off and cant play on anything except "your stick".

I do hope the T5 stick is sturdy though. :)

Can someone explain why sanwa parts are so good? I'm looking to buy the Nuby stick and will probably mod it with good parts when I find out why they are actually good.

I've also heard of mechanical and infrared joysticks. Is it worth the investment for IR?

Well I just like arcade sticks, dammit, like an unhealthy amount.

For me it's not about the "perfect arcade stick" because via my principles such a thing would not be appealing to me. I don't want one stick to rule them all. I want a stick specially made for each game that I play. I don't want to play SC2 with a six-button stick, so I modded up a four button just for that game. And when I play VF4 with the SC2 stick, the whole time I'm thinking "Goddammit, there's an extra button down there." So I gotta build a VF stick in the near future.

Plus, since I'm always trying to get new stuff, I'm trying new stuff quite often; thus I'm not going to get caught up on one style or model. What will fuck me over is button layouts. I arrange or map based upon the closest I can come to the pertaining arcade layout, and my finger memory gets based on that. One time, Dark10x and I were going at VF4 at a Gameworks, and they used a straight-3 instead of a curved-3 like is proper and I had grown used to. That change messed me up so bad that he almost won a round.

Since the arcades are fucking dying, it doesn't look like I'm hafta worry about not being able to use the provided equipment. EVO looks to be BYOAC from here on, so that works for me too, y'know, should I ever get there.

For the sticks, they have faster throws, which just means that it takes less time to hit the microswitch on a Sanwa than on a Happ. But I don't think you'll notice right off. In regards to the buttons, I've never heard a good reason to use them over Happ. In fact I've seen many sticks done with a Sanwa stick and Happ Competition buttons. Sanwa buttons are wider and look more like candy though, which is why they appeal to me more.

I've also heard of mechanical and infrared joysticks. Is it worth the investment for IR?
You're speaking of the Sanwa Flash which I hear is discontinued (if you coulda gotten one anyway) and the Happ Perfect 360. We mostly call them optical.

I do like my P360, but I'm not going to work on one myself anytime soon. I've simply read too many stories about difficulties wring them up properly and about them arriving as lemons in the first place. There are other things I want to work on an try than that right now.

If you are going to mod that Nuby, just stick with a Happ Comp or Ultimate stick for your first time and go easy on yourself. Do you want to worry about voltages or drilling new mounting holes or deck width your first time out?

That said, snap-in Sanwa buttons seem to grip the SFAC stick's Plexi nicely. I didn't expect them to fit, but there you go.

if you go with a Sanwa stick though, you're in for some lameness as you'll have to drill new holes and flatten out an area for the plate. BUT if you go with a Happ stick, "I think" you can use the same [quick disconnects] that are on there already and it should fit into the screw holes from the stock stick

Hey, can anyone sell me a moddem SFAC joystick w/ the happ stick and buttons? Too lazy to do the mods myself.

I hear ya on that. What I was saying really though is that some people blame thier own bad execution on the joystick.

There are very few joysticks I have run into that I just "CANT PLAY ON" but as long as eveyrthing works, I can usally manage pretty well... some people just cant execute though no matter how good the stick is..

So those round top buttons are the Sanwas? I prefer the concave buttons and the thick arcade stick. I guess I'll just have to find whatever parts the old SFII:CE cabinet used.

This'll ROCK for fighters, which are all I play these days, anyhow. VF4evo, KoF 2002/2003, Tekken 5 -- ALL BETTER WITH A GOOD PAD.
