According to the latest issue of Anime Insider magazine, Bandai Entertainment will be releasing Cowboy Bebop REMIX, a new Cowboy Bebop special edition, starting this summer.

REMIX will feature a completely remixed and remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS surround sound and remastered video under the direction/supervision of Shinichiro Watanabe. REMIX will include new extras such as interviews with the US voice actors and actresses, collections of trailers, promos, the Session 0 extras (Japanese Interviews witht he staff and cast, story digest of the second half of the series, Tank music videos) and more.

REMIX will be released over six-discs with the release schedule tba.
From ANN.

If we get packaging half as cool as the Japanese original, then it's a must-buy. Either way, it's ALL of Bebop in 5.1 with remastered video! A shame they're doing it over 6 separate discs, not as a box set, but it'll still beat the Japanese price. Better sell those Perfect Sessions on Ebay real quick...

Excellent. i don't own any of the DVDs, and was debating which set to buy. i'll preorder this for sure.

On a related note, which of the OSTs made it over, and just how available are they? i think i'll be going on a CB shopping spree pretty soon.

Sweet. I almost bought a used (and overpriced) version of the complete set last week. Good thing I decided not to buy it.

Mother fucker. I just got the dvds in the fall. I'd have to rent this first to check the video though. If it really is remastered well it's a must buy.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think any of the OSTs came out in the US. If they did, I know I've never been able to find them. The Perfect Sessions box did come with the first OST, though.

I came into this thread hoping it won't be ~$150

Since they're selling them separately, it'll probably be $30 MSRP per disc, with a Disc1+Box for $40 or $50 depending on the premium(s). Figure the discs will be around $20 at Best Buy, and it'll probably run around $130 if you get the box and the rest of the DVDs.

Compare that to the Japanese 5.1 set, which is around $380.

the Session 0 extras (Japanese Interviews witht he staff and cast, story digest of the second half of the series, Tank music videos)
Pretty sure we got those as normal extra's for our (Australia) Bebop DVDs.

Most of it isn't new, but DTS + remastered video + possible box = me swearing profusely about the whole "double dipping" process in DVDs today.

Sweet. I've put off getting the Bebop DVDs for a long time now. Patience pays off. :D

Ditto. Well except for my HK set, which I'll give to a friend or something once this comes out. Really looking forward to this. Will give me an excuse to watch the whole series again. :D

Excellent. I missed out on the perfect sessions box, and I've been putting off buying these discs individually for a while now. This is finally an excuse to pick them up.

Bah, I bought the whole series last June with the DeepDiscountDVD deal. I hate all these rereleases with a passion. Release them properly the first time and move on. Oh well, those will do me fine for now. Maybe I'll pick the series up again on a later medium.

I'm going to double dip too :|..

I wish they were releasing it in the same style as the R2 (packaging and boxset).. Don't want to have to wait so long between volumes for a series I already have the whole thing for..

Definitely plan on picking this up. Never did manage to get one of the Perfect Sessions and I saw no reason to buy the discs separately since I figured another box set or something would happen eventually.. this is even better.

I might have sold my Perfect Sessions box if I lived any place where anime was remotely popular... As it stands though looks like my original box is gonna be collecting dust when/if I pick up the new release.

:(

You might be able to pick them up if you have a GameWare in your local mall. The one here has a decent selection of anime soundtracks.

I picked up my 3 OST's off of ebay.

Question about this new set: If I don't have a 5.1 setup for my DVD player, should I really bother with this set, as I have all the DVDs anyway?

I really hope that this isn't too expensive, the perfect sessions were too much for my wallet to handle.

you could have got all 6 bebop dvds for 100-120 even before the perfect sessions were released.

Either
a. they're bootlegs, or
b. they're imports

Dunno what Gameware is, so I won't presume either way.

As I recall, there are five Cowboy Bebop albums (OST1-3, Vitaminless, and the Remix album) and one special OST box set, but of those, none of them were made available for sale in the US, and only one of them (OST1) was ever even released (in this case, as part of the LE DVD Box).

OST
OST 2 No Disc
OST 3 Blue
Vitaminless Mini album
Ask DNA Mini album
Knocking on Heaven's Door Movie OST
and the 4 discs + 1 mini-CD box set

A best of compilation was also released, but there's nothing new on it.

Not gonna count the remix and seatbelts live album things.

Depends on how much better the video looks. If the difference is negligible, then no. Hopefully we'll get more details/comparison pics when Bandai works out the release schedule.

Dead

well not really...yet
Since I only payed around $60 for my Perfect Sessions boxset when it came out, ill wont mind picking this up :)

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
good news. hopefully we will get a much longer interview with my ex-gf Yoko Kanno this time.

Still keeping my old discs though, as Vol.1 is autographed by the Bebop character designer.

Yeah, considering metsallica's post.

Anyway, I'm glad they've included session 0. It's a really cool bonus to the series.

No real info at this point. Seems like Jerry jumped the gun; either that or the panel hasn't been fully transcribed yet. Only thing he did say at the convention that could potentially relate to the new Bebop set is that Bandai will start having better supplemental features on their new DVD releases. More interviews, commentaries, things like that.

Hopefully he'll follow up on what he originally said in the Bebop thread over at AoD after the con.

that kinda sucks theyre just doing the volume releases

I sold off my last box set of bebop when I needed some cash fast

so I will deffiently be buying these

kinda off topic but when they release like the first dvd plus the box they tend to seel the volume 1 by its self but do they ever also sell the box by it's self

not realizing it I bought the volume 1 of samurai champloo with the soundtrack cd didnt even think to see if they had a volume 1 plus box for it and they do and I want to know if theres anyway to get just the box

The original ANN story said it would be released over six discs, never mentioned a one-shot box deal. Plus it said release schedule, not release date. But who knows, the info thus far has been fairly vague. It's still a bit early to know the full specs, too, considering it was just announced and is still 3 months away.

I've never seen just the box sold in a brick-and-mortar, but some websites will do that. Check Rightstuf, or even just email the company. Sometimes they can point you in the right direction or just sell/give the box to you themselves.
