Craigslist dropping 'erotic services' ads
Illinois attorney general says Craigslist will create a new adult category

CHICAGO - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says that Craigslist is getting rid of its "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that Web site employees will review.

Madigan's office said Wednesday that such existing ads on Craigslist will expire in seven days.

Madigan and the attorneys general for Connecticut and Missouri met with Craigslist officials last week seeking an end to ads they contend are advertisements for illegal sexual activities.

An e-mail sent to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

Craigslist came under renewed pressure to remove the ads after a medical student in Boston was charged with the April killing of a masseuse he met on the site.
Story Here

Surprised this didn't happen sooner...

So they're moving it to a different section of the website? What exactly is the difference?

advertisements for illegal sexual activities

So is it a problem because advertising sexual activites is illegal, or because the activities themselves were illegal? The wording confuses me.

Edit: Oh, you can advertise sexual activities for free, but the payment part is what makes them illegal.

Ridiculous, the morality police really need to take a break. Prostitution should be legal.

Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact it was illegal. I think businesses that facilitate crime need to operate with the Public Interest, Convenience, and Necessity in mind. For example, Pawn shops should require proof of purchase for anything pawned. They prey on people's misery and addiction, and they knowingly traffic stolen goods. God damn.

The term "illegal sexual activity" should not exist in an enlightened society. Punishing responsible, consenting adults by proxy for violent crimes committed by deranged murderers is wrong. If people don't meet each other for sex on Craig's List, they'll find another site.

4chan?

So there's going to be some kind of "Warning: Adult Content" button people have to click before entering the personals section?

Rejoice, the children are safe again!

NOOOOOOOO!!! My friend told me a funny story on Cinco de Mayo about him and some local blogger who went on a coke binge and ended up getting a bj from a craigslist hooker. Apparently a number of the hookers know each other, as he said they called a bunch of them and some of the girls asked if they called before. Then again, he also said she was charging $150 per person, and wasn't particularly attractive. There's gotta be a better way to get sex than that. PEACE.

I always thought it was weird for Craigslist to allow advertising for something that is completely illegal and even have a special section for it. Not like they have a "Seeking Meth" section.

I don't know the history, but maybe it started out as just ads for strippers or something (which is a legal "erotic service,"), like they have in a phonebook. Eventually it just evolved in to what it is today?

What part is funny? The hookers knowing each other? The price? Your friend doing blow with a person that blogs? PEACE.
