Crashing 360s... Is it common?

I've had one issue in PGR3 when the sky went pink and there were crazy polygons everywhere. Might have been dash related, can't remember. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. No lockups.

I also own Amped 3, NFS:MW, RR6, CoD2. No problems at all there.

DoA4 arrives tomorrow. I'm told this game is just bugged though, I'll see.

sorry but that title goes to the ps2... i dont know anyone who hasnt gone through at least 2 ps2's...

I don't know anyone who has had a PS2 die on them, and I still have a working launch-day Japanese unit.

Mine did, but then that is what happens when half a litre of Castrol GTX gets tipped inside.

And there was me expecting smoother framerates... :P

This is what you get when you become too obsessed with increasing the realism in GT3...

Finally persuaded the XBox support centre that my machine is hosed (by playing Ridge Racer 6 for a whole five minutes without hard drive and network card until it crashed) - looks like it's going back for a replacement...

Anyone got an answer on what the default manufacturer warranty is? Not the extended one you pay for. Also how do you register your psystem with Microsoft, I got no paperwork with mine for product registration.

1) 3 months.

2) Call them up and tell them you wanna register your system...then they'll ask for the serial # on the back of the console.

Also, how are they supposed to know how long you've had the console? Is it from the date you registered your system?

PGR3 has locked up on me a couple times, usually when i'm using custom soundtracks streamed from my PC... a restart fixed everything...

I do, however (so far as I can tell) have a corrupt NHL2K6 season save... Dunno if anyone else has had issues, and I haven't looked much to see if it's common, but I can't finish games in my season... Once I play for more than a minute or two, I can't just "quit", it hanges on a black "loading screen" and doesn't budge... When I finish a game, win or loose, and try to "quit" to continue with my season, same fucking thing... I can simulate games and they'll simulate fine, but try to play the next game and nuthin...

I haven't had a problem with mine that wasn't my fault. I've only used it to play single player games and watch dvds. I don't have my LIVE connection set up yet but I will soon.

Did you by any chance download the new rosters?

Oh geez, I might have to buy the extended warranty afterall due to problems people are having. :(

I believe you have to buy the extended warranty within a certain time period (14 days or so of purchase). If you're still good to buy it, I'd suggest getting it now. Normally can't stand extended warranties, but I'll make an exception for this one, having experienced the failures first hand.

I've downloaded 2 or 3 yes... before this problem occured... is there an issue with dl'd rosters? or would dl'ing the newest rosters help?

Yea the problem I think lies within d/l'ed rosters...

I have an extended warranty with Best Buy after the numerous problems I had with the original XBox. Good news - my system is quiet so far playing DVD movies and Halo 2 (no lawnmower). Also, I have a launch PS2 for the US, and had two XBoxes die on me.

Dont believe the hype...The lady on the phone told me there is no "specific" date you have to send in the paper. Or you could do it over the phone w/ a credit card.

Every single game I've played on my 360 has crashed at some point. It just seems to me that the hardware is a bit sketchy. Just be glad your 360 hasn't ruined one of your discs yet. Mine let a big scratch on my PDZ.

ditto. Every game I own crashes randomly. I could be playing for hours one day without problem, the next day there could be a crash within the first 15 minutes.

My 360 has NEVER crashed on me. Not even once. I've played all the major demos, played tons of RR6, and Kameo and no lock-ups, or scratched discs what so ever. I have no idea what others are doing that's causing so many problems.

Nobody is doing anything wrong. There are faulty launch units out there, the one at my office crashes pretty freaquently.

2 pgr3-and-dashboard related crashes so far. And I havent played all that much. And I have one of the "later" boxes bought only 2 weeks ago.

its pretty buggy stuff for a console.

I haven't had any problems with my 360 yet. Mind you, I only have four games, so I haven't really "stress tested" mine as of yet.

It's working fine for now, though. *knocks on wood*

Heh. You're exactly where I was with my PS2. :)

I can tell you that I'm not doing anything wrong with my 360, though. I treat my consoles well - I cleared plenty of well ventilated space for both the console and the power brick, and it's been used properly (if a little heavily at times) since I've had it. Went through the full support "are you a moron?" questionnaire, and the only thing I was doing wrong was that I had the clock set a few months out of date - which didn't cause the problem.

i dunno if its game related, ive had a 360 since day one and by the middle of january it was crashing frequently with four different games and downloaded demos, giving me either a red or green screen. Dont know if thats a common thing, Microsoft got me my replacement real quick, but it woulda been nice for it to have worked in the first place
