Craziest jump in a game?

Jeff-DSA said:
I swear, with the introduction of the Halo franchise we gained a TON of gamers that don't quite realize that gaming began decades ago...

I'm not against newcomers, it's just that they think that gaming began with Halo and revolves around it. It's a little annoying when discussing "all-time" gaming topics.

Believe it or not I've been playing Video Games since the late 70's, the 2600 was my first home console, and I've owned a more than one console from each generation except this one and the 8-bit days. So please practice the history lesson for someone else.

Could it be so hard to believe that I just find Halo to be (OMGWTF!!!) fun to play?

And as for the Warthog Jump, sure there are jumps in other OLDER games that are cool and require skill and others that give a nice visual awe. What I find cool about the warthog jump is that despite being a cool quirk in the Halo physics engine, it takes skill to set-up and do some of the most impressive ones. And let's face it watching those suckers fly is pretty fun.

For some white knuckle no-fucking-way insane jump action try this in GTA:SA:

1) Max out your muscle and minimize your fat
2) Turn on super high jump code
3) Get BMX bike
4) Jump from building rooftop to rooftop to get from the street all the way up to the top of the tallest building in Los Santos

I've found two different routes to get up there, and it's crazy fun.

Personally i really cant believe no one mentioned virtual fighter like 1, 2, 3 and maybe 4 im not really a fan but that flying forward jump they do is hilarious :lol

The original Jedi Knight had some seriously messed up jumps in it, with full force speed and full force jump you could go sailing pretty damn far.

The game is fucking terrible...but in Off-road thunder, you can get your monster truck to jump an ENTIRE STADIUM!

The Kalisto game on the DC? I loved that game. Still own it I think...

What a bitchy thing to say.

OK, so I played both Halo 1 and 2 and don't really remember any fantastic crazy jumps with the warthog. Is a "wathog jump" something special that is not required to finish the game? Just curious, not because I don't believe Halo has crazy jumps, it's just that I don't remember any.

My vote goes to SSX3 as well. Also, Trackmania or whatever it was called looks cool... I'll have to track it down and try it out.

It's not an all-time best, but in Jedi Academy with a decent Force Jump stat and Force Speed, you can make some insane long jumps.

I always got frustrated with a lot of the Tony Hawk jumps/gaps.

Too busy to list any now, but I'm sure people know what I'm talking about.

Toooooooooony, noooooooooo.

Ohh, I think my favorite was in THPS1, ya know the trick where you flipped through the glass and just grinded the whole small stage in the first arena. Beautiful.

F-Zero Fire Field (or was it Red Canyon? I forget, but you take a hidden path off to the left and you have to hit a few jumps precisely or else you crash into the city.)

Oh, and this is the original F-Zero

F-Zero GX has a few insane jumps... the huge one in Port Town: Aero Dive, the series of small drop-offs combined with sharp turns in Mute City: Serial Gaps, and the veeery long one in Aeropolis: Dragon Slope. The combinated effect of incredible speed, buttery smoothness and lovely, sharp visuals kinda makes your stomach implode a little each time you hit one of these jumps.

Great pick. I was about to say Halo (the major jump on The Maw), but this totally takes the cake.

Yeah, this one is good, too. :D

Strider(Arcade, Genesis) 2nd level snow cliff jump was pretty sweet back in the day.

That's the first thing that came to mind too. When I got to that part for the first time and the music got all dramatic while running full speed downhill, I got that "OH SHIT" tingling feeling. Then there's the way the music changes after you make the landing, and you segue directly into the scaffolding sequence amongst the lightening and clouds. Awesome memorable moment in my videogame history, and it took place at a 7-11 :lol

Richard Burns Rally - Australia Rally Canberra - Mineshaft stage

Accurately modeled after the real jump if you dont slow down to a near stop comming up to the jump you will fly and die.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. So they have designed a track in a way that, if you're going to fast, you die? And at the same time, the very object of the sport is to go as fast as possible? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I know right? Seriously why they even put turns on a track if you have to slowdown to take them? All tracks should be flat and straight.

Except for super special stages in arenas, most rally tracks use already existing roads both paved and unpaved and both public and private. And in case you are new to rally racing, you have a co-driver who will tell you to slow before the jump. You can see this jump coming a mile away as a huge straight leads up to it so you can be going top speed over the jump which results in the picture above. The jump in real life does take out cars if they do get too much air.

I understand there is a line between reasonable risk for a disaster and challenging enough tracks. You made it seem like the risk was exaggerated to me I suppose. Anyway, this is OT. This thread you should be about the worship of the glory that is Stunt Car Racer!

Well recently, in SOCOM 3 there is a map called Harvester to where you can drive a Humvee or Terrorist Technical over a huge cliff for snipers. I drove a Humvee over it once and landed on top of a terrorist soldier's head killing him :lol

I loved the big air competition in Cool Boarders 2. You'd slide down the side of a mountain then get launched into the air at the end.

Come to think of it, Amped had some real nice jumps as well.

The most ANNOYING jump is that one level of Super Monkey Ball 2 where you have to spring yourself up on to a tower with the exit on the top of it. It's EVIL.

YES!
I was scrolling down, thinking, wait, Monkey Ball.
That one, with the thing.
And then you said.

That jump is ridiculous.

I always liked it in the earlier Tomb Raiders when you'd plunge from a great depth and Lara would let out a shriek. There was a cool moment in TR2 when you jumped into a fireplace and fell a great distance into a hidden pool of dark water.

Can someone explain this one? Looks pretty straightforward to me ;)

When I was six years old and held a controller for the first time in my life, this was the stuff nightmares were made of.

i'm not shitting you.

Quoted for truth.

Also, TrackMania Sunrise has some insane stuff as well!

Now, this needs a remake.
You could really feel the height and the risk approaching turns. I used to jump across small gaps to cut tight turns and it gave me goosebumps

Wall jumping your way up to see youshi in SM64 before getting 120 stars.

Also - the jump posted in SMB is weak. There're more difficult jumps in the very next level. The one where there's a pipe, then two very thin ledges, and a big gap. You have to start your running on the pipe, land on the second small thin ledge and then leap. Im MUCH more prone to missing that one than the one posted.

That jump is nothing compared to the lost levels. I remember in lost levels there's a jump like that..... but there's one part where it's impossible to jump over... and you have to ricochet off of 3 flying turtles to clear it.

mmmm memories :)

when i first saw that, i fell into the hole, and then proceeded to lose all the rest of my (crown cube) lives cause i just couldn't make that damned jump with only three blocks of running room. it was enough to make me throw the controller. I don't think i ever beat SMB1 cause of that.

SOTC spoiler ahead

Not crazy but sad.
Close to the end when you jump over that huge gap with Agro and then he falls :(
Couldn't find a pic though.

Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road ...
Just after the pit line on the left, to cut the circuit and win easy the race !!!

That was crazy...
A do or die jump... ^^
