On the heels of what is expected to be his farewell performance as Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise is ready to revisit some of his other beloved roles.

The 4x Oscar nominee, who returns in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning in theaters on May 23, recently said he's "working on" a follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick (2022), as well as a sequel to his 1990 NASCAR drama Days of Thunder.

"Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible," he teased on Australia's Today. "It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick."

Cruise previously reprised his role as Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick after originating the role in the original 1986 aviator film. The long-awaited sequel surpassed $1.4 billion worldwide, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

"There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film," Cruise continued. "I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, and we'll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and [Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films."

The untitled Iñárritu film, which is expected to premiere Oct. 2, 2026, is about the most powerful man in the world, embarking on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity's savior before the disaster he's unleashed destroys everything.

I watched Dead Reckoning again to prep for the last film and it is a fun action thriller. Cruise certainly has been prolific and TG:Maverick brought theaters back from the brink.

Days of Thunder 2....ugghhh??? How about Edge of Tommorow 2?

Days of Thunder till this day holds up very well. Especially on a great sound system.

Would definitely be down for a non-watered down sequel.

Tommy working really hard to regain his popularity after being the scientology poster boy years ago...
He still is, but now they keep quiet and don't flaunt it anymore.

Good job, Tommy boy!

In the 90s Bose always had Days of Thunder playing on their demos at Sam's Club. Made me want a good sound system as a kid.

It's basically Top Gun with cars, even the original Top gun holds well.

Given that TGM director is working, especially on the technical aspect, on the F1 movie with Brad Pitt, I can't see Days sequel going bad after it.

I want a Risky Business 2 where Tom has a wild son he has to bring to heel and its a fun sexy adult romp. Get him back to the lighter characters he used to play.

Would also accept Cocktail 2 or Color of Money 2 both dealing with a fading champ who has to show the upstarts how it is done.

Obviously Timothy Chalamet plays the young actor in all of these and Zendaya is Tom's love interest :p

Calling him Cruise Missile... a Man after My own Heart.

Funny remember this guy being famous for not doing sequels but glad he changed his stance as he is getting older. Would personally love a sequel to Eyes Wide Shut, Edge of Tomorrow, A Few Good Men, or Minority Report.
