Damn. My TV is busted...I think.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Had the bright idea of re-arranging my living room. After moving the entertainment center, I noticed the TV had what I guess is EMI (electro magnetic interference). Looks like a speaker is too close to the tube, resulting in green and purplish tint at the top and bottom right corners.

No way can I stand to play games or look at TV with it like this... Thinking it might be a location issue, I moved the TV to several different locations and it's the same thing.

Is there any way to fix this? I really don't want to have to buy a TV just yet...

Try turning the TV off for about half an hour--most TVs have a built-in demagnetizing function. After that, I don't know what to say. Hope that helps.

Would taking a big ass magnet and waving it around the TV reverse the effect?

Also, any recommendations for a nice 27" set w/ component and 480p support?

Price range? Heh why is it when anyone asks for a recommendation on a TV they never list a price range. Makes a world of a difference.

Nope. It's screwed. I have an 18'' monitor on another PC here at home and it has the same color warp. It's been like that for nearly 5 years now. It happened when we moved into the house.

A demagnetizer can be used to fix this.

Depending upon the strength of the magnetic field, the built-in demagnetizing coil may or may not be able to fix the problem. The built-in coil is activated once at power-on, and the set must cool down completely before it will activate again.

It is a bit tricky to demagnetize a set. You must turn on the tool when it's away from the set, then wave it around the picture tube, then move it away before you turn it off.

I've used a tape-head demagnetizer to solve a small color problem. A bulk-tape eraser might be required for a bigger problem. You can buy or make a large coil also. I'm sure you could find instructions on the web (as well as more detailed operating instructions).

^^

Wow. So there's some hope.

Thanks. I'll keep looking, although if you have a link to a guide on doing the procedure, don't hesitate to share.
