Thinks his PR is better than yours.
Stupid bittorrent keeps disconnecting me from my internet every time I start running it. My connection autoreconnects but all I can get are local connections after that, which = shit for speed. When I restart bittorrent again, it disconnects me again. WTF!!!!!!!! This never happened before. I've switched to 4 different clients and they all do it. It's only when I turn on a client does my connection stop.......

I don't get it...

Same thing happens to me. I'm lucky I get even 10 minutes of proper use. I tried everything, nothing worked, all I can think of is that my ISP is doing it. I guess you can't do anything about that right?

Yeah, I think I ran into the issue once but I forget what fixed it. :P Try changing the default port... that or it had something to do with port forwarding.

Ugh, what ISP's are you people using?

I'm using RCN cable. I tried things like changing the default ports, limiting upload, limiting connections, etc. I would get a nice green download that could be like 100Kb/sec but then it would suddenly start dropping and my internet connection is dead.

I use MTS Highspeed DSL. It's never done this before, it's only been like the past couple days...

I don't know what to do.... I know tons of ppl using the same ISP who don't experience this problem.

Oddly enough the exact same thing seemed to be happening to me wednesday night while i was using bt to dl something, XP would give me a "network cable disconnected" then it would immediately reconnect itself and say "network cable connected". Happened at what seemed like 30 minute intervals. I didn't peg it as my isp disconnecting me so i never checked to see if my ip address actually changed. Guess i'll keep an eye out if it ever happens again. I'm on SBC DSL and a linksys whatever the old 802.11b wireless router is btw .

I had this issue (well, it wouldn't disconnect my PC immediately, it would take a few minutes and it kind of slowly came to a halt) when I was running whatever the current version of ZoneAlarm was at the time. I had to revert back to the previous version - of course the issue may have been fixed since then in the newest version - I don't use ZA anymore.

Yeah I get the same issue with BT. I don't know how to fix it. Maybe port forwarding or something. But if I leave stuff on overnight then usually it will finish and I don't have to worry about this stuff.

What are you people downloading with BT these days anyways?

I pretty much only stick to TV shows. I am too afraid of the RIAA, MPAA, and any other organization that is going to sue me and settle for a few thousand dollars.

Usually TV shows, Anime eps, but I live in Canada and I'm not affected by all the crap that goes on in the US. Well not yet anyway.

This is just pissing me off....

I actually don't use bittorrent much for anything nowadays, maybe 2-3x a week to dl anime fansubs but that's it. This particular time though i was dl'ing the FFVII:AC soundtrack (nice orchestra sets btw).

I'm along the same thinking as you, bt is easy as hell to track IP's from so tend to stay away from that gray area heh. Not sure where you live but they'll actually nail you for downloading TV shows (well on US broadcast TV) just as quickly as the other 2, if i remember right awhile back one of those big torrent sites went down because of TV shows not movies/music/etc.

bittorent crashes my adsl modem quite a bit. have to restart the thing all the time.

Tv. If I gotta work and miss it, I'll grab it the next day.

if your running windows xp + sp2 u could try this it worked great for me,my connection used to die within 10 seconds of starting a torrent, now it hasnt died in months.

bascially sp2 limits your outgoing tcp/ip connections to 10 (from unlimited on sp1),u can check if ur hitting the limit by goin to control panel>administrative tools>event viewer>system and check if u got any 4226 events (tcpip with yellow warning next to it).

if you have then try this patch

its really easy to do,just disconnect from the internet run the patch, press y then when windows file protection pops up click cancel then yes, then reboot and reconnect u should now be good to go :)

MTS Highspeed DSL?? As in MTS MTS? If so, I can see if I can get an answer for you (if its a problem with the ISP that is).

I use it for TV shows. Sometimes I miss them ebcause of class/work and then what am I supposed to do?

In the case fo Arrested Development, I watch on TV, download, and then watch again to find things I missed.

Nobody is going after people who download TV shows. Although they go after the websites, individual users are safe, for now.

When they shut down Suprnova, it was pretty bad, that was the best site. Then everybody moved to another website (which I forgot) and that was shut as well. And they were all proud that their site hits had increased. When they went down, everyone mvoed to another website, which then claimed they were getting more htis then Suprnova ever got....until they were shut down.

However, thatw as January. I havent heard of any site closures recently.

Whos in charge of that anyway? RIAA is music, MPAA is movies, ???? is TV?

What ports are you guys using? im still using the default 6881-6999 range, but ive read some trackers will ban you for using theses since some ISPs are now throttling back these ports. It was suggested to use 16881-16999 instead. I run bittorrent constantly (d/l alot of live concerts from bt.etree.org) and have never been disconnected from my ISP yet.

Does that patch help speed up downloads? Ive noticed when i run azureus on linux (same machine, dual boot with XP SP2) i get higher speeds.

I hear ya man, its still cold as a motherfucker out there though!

I'll see what I can find out about Torrent and MTS, I got a few buds that work there in Tech support, so I can ask inconspicuously.

Wow, another Winnipeger. Cool...*and* you're an October baby. Right on!

Yes, the snow is *ridiculous* as has been the cold. It better get up to 15 tomorrow, I still have to cut the grass and put away the lawn furniture for crying out loud.

By the way, if you don't already know, your avatar appears to be dead. Also, was yours the one where some girl was getting run over? Where did you get that clip, it's hilarious.

Yeah I hope the temp goes up tomorrow too, we shouldn't have fuckin winter this early.... It was like a little chilly, then suddeny a damn wet/icy/blizzard, and it was so windy. I was walking to my house and it felt like the snow that was coming down was cutting my face aprt......

Yeah my avatar was the one with the girl getting plowed over by the guy running on the track. I don't remember where I got it from though, I edited it from a larger little clip I found on the net somewhere. I wish I could find that broadcast though, it was awesome.

I'll get around to fixing some time soon, just been to busy. Infact, I've gotta head to the UofM for class right away.....

OK, both my friends aren't working today, though I will for sure see both tonight, so I will ask for you. If you haven't resolved this problem by tomorrow I will post what I have found out.

And anecdotally, I spoke with another friend who has MTS and uses BT quite a bit (though not super heavy as of late), and he has had no problems whatsoever.

I'll see what the official word is at MTS though and let you know if my friends know a good work around it.

Alright, Im worried.

Click the link, immediatly 30-45-55-75-105-125-150...

And then it started falling.

Its at 4 now.

3.

And 0 upload (even though I have upload set up at 70kb/s and 7 peers)

2.

Well, I talked to my friend and as far as he knows MTS has not been cracking down on BT at all. Apperantly they have cooperated with Dreamworks in helping them track down some specific users, but thats the extent of their internet policing.

So I guess I'm not much help, but at least I think it's safe to rule out the ISP as the source of the problem.

Thanks, I was kinda coming to that conclusion myself as none of my friends who share the same ISP have had any issues with BT. I'm thinking it may be due to my router, or something along those lines.

I use a DLink DI-604 to split my connection between 2 computers. Maybe it's something to do with it's configuration, or maybe it just can't handle all the IO that BT produces.....

I think I have a problem with my router.

Internet is fine.

BT is fine.

Internet with BT will usually crash/reset my connection after about 30 minutes usage. No idea why, but these days I just stop all my BT connections before an internet session.

I lost my cable internet service because of a TV Show(Stargate SG1). The first time they caught me, they told me I was downloading something copyrighted which made me think that one of my sibling was downloading MP3s, they didn't tell me what it was. The second time, they terminated my services and sent me a letter from the company that are complaining to them about it. I was told by my internet provider that TV Shows are copyrighted like MP3, so you can't download them. The company that contacted them about it was BayTSP.
