If GAF's search system is working correctly, this game has been mentioned a grand total of 0 times -- truly a travesty. I'll let the screenshots here do most of the talking, but essentially Darwinia is an action/RTS combo concerning "video game sprites trapped in a modern 3d game world," by the authors of Uplink.

Just in time for a snowed-in weekend, the demo's gone up today.

I'm having a bit of a problem finding the mines that the Darwinians are supposed to be getting into.. if anyone finds them, lemme know what I'm stupidly overlooking -- I'm off to search a bit more.

Oh snap! I made a thread about this on GAF before the crash but I completely forgot about it until this one. Unfortunately my PC is a sack of shit and doesn't even meet the minimum requirements, but I'm going to give it a bash anyways and see if I can't get two or three frames per second.

Edit: After spending 10 minutes with it or so...wow. A really, REALLY interesting idea, seemed pretty fun. It also just collectively shitted on everyone who thinks PC games are all the same 3 games.

Without a guide or faq that was damn near impossible to even start. D/led it from a link at /. and with teh main site down I was lost.

Anyway, it's cool enough that I struggled with it enough to turn the generator on but now I have no idea how to get soldiers to the next island in order to kill the virii.

Press H for help, and move the mouse to the right to look at objectives, clicking on the objectives will show you where the objectives are and what not.

I couldn't even run the thing, I guess it'd help if my PC were at least up to the minimum requirements. I'll keep the installation file on my PC for when I get a new one, but.

Seriously though, it is cool. It looks amazing, the drawing recognition works fine, and it reminds me of a new Cannon Fodder so far.
