Day of Defeat: Source Available September 26
September 9, 2005, 12:20 pm · Chris Bokitch
Day of Defeat®: Source™ (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from Valve®, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.

"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "

DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.

DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.

Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.

DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.

Since I don't want to make a new thread, I'll post this here. There is a demo of a new mod for HL2 called Dystopia that has been released.

Info about the mod (http://dystopia-game.com/about/):

Dystopia Explained
Dystopia is a total conversion of Half Life 2 currently under development by Team Dystopia. We are a collection of dedicated and talented gamers who are creating an action packed multiplayer game. Drawing on the themes and concepts of the Cyberpunk genre and implementing ideas born out of years of gaming experience with a diligently designed gameplay system, we hope to produce the next step in online multiplayer gaming.

Dystopia places the player into tense combat situations in a high tech world spanned by computer networks. As either Punk Mercenaries or Corporate Security Forces the player will fight through the physical world to gain access, via jack-in terminals, to cyberspace.

Cyberspace is a three dimensional representation of the world's network. Inside cyberspace players will launch programs to hack into systems linked to the physical world while fighting off enemy hackers and defending critical systems. Gameplay progresses through inter-linked physical and cyberspace objectives, some are completed in either the physical world or cyberspace, others only by a well timed combination of the two.

Whether the player is a heavily augmented combat mercenary armed to the teeth with the latest in firepower, or a twitch reflex cyberdecker racing to infiltrate a cyberspace node; they'll be immersed in an action packed battle. Only through skillful use of the high tech arsenal we're making available and intelligent team play will players truly jack-in and kick ass.

Feature List
- Dual layer gameplay; interlinked realworld and cyberspace
- A highly detailed futuristic "realworld" environment
- A 3D "cyberspace" computer network environment
- Unique player configuration system

No shit! Wait TF2 has been possibly in development as long as Duke Nukem.

Not really, DNF has been full time, whereas TF2 has been shelved many times. It was originally for the HL1 engine.

No point in releasing something thats not finished, or not good. (applies to both TF2 and DNF).

those two screen are quite badass. got me interested.

yeah, you just talking out your ass here or is this for real?

ive been hoping something like this would happen.

Yeah, I'm glad Valve decided to delay/improve the game rather than squeeze out a half-assed port like early screens indicated.

well looks like it is supposed to be able to be purchased seperately, though steam itself gives no indication when you fire it up. you just get the same old "sorry you're stuck with the package you bought" message.

i guess we'll see how it works out in a week or so.

Perhaps next time you won't suggest I'm "talking out of my ass".

What you do is go to "browse games". The price for the silver package should be listed as only $10 if you already have the bronze package. Now next time, and this goes for that hack elGee, don't be a rude arsehole when asking someone to help you out.

Oh really?

Owned, IMO.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure you're still completely unable to upgrade HL2 packages. Valve mentioned that they'd get around to it eventually, but.. it's Valve.

So buying the collector's edition means nothing?

I think I'll pass.

Frontline Force: Source will be a far better game anyways.

What makes Day of Defeat so good is the community. It is one of the more mature, well established online communities. Tons of custom stuff to download and implement.

Oh? Look here -

Well, it's a semi-owning because, if your image is correct, it would appear that only those with the ATI coupon get the discount...? In any case, enjoy buying it for $20, sucka! :lol

yeah, you're talking out of your twat then.

you've been useless, thanks again.

gotta love someone who acts like we're fucking dumb for not seeing wtf he is going on about, dosent try to help. gets busted, then tries to defend his position by saying "oh i guess you have to have the special coupon".

then puts us on ignore.

classic douchebag. someone quote me so he can read this. :)

cool thanks for the quote.

i agree, 20$ isnt too much to ask. if the game is fun it will be well worth it.

i did finally play Dystopia for about 45 min yesterday. it interesting. like a cross between CS and Tribes.

some gitchy shit going on there though, including doors that damage you as you try to pass thoguh them.

the maps we're kind of boring though. some were ok, some outright sucked. hopefully things improve.
