DDR pad question

My boss got these metal DDR pads, and they looks pretty nice to me, but there's one bit I'm unusure about:

The cord has a PC connector (with the little screws on the sides), and that plugs into a little control box that has the start/select buttons, and a cord runs from the other side of that box with the playsation controller connection.

Has anyone used one of these? Just curious about the upkeep on them, as well as the quality of the step recognition, since it's going through that little connector box.

The latency on metal pads is, for the most part, top notch. No, a connector won't make the electrons run slower. Upkeep, however, is always much more than I think is worth it. You do need to repair the pads every now and then and also do maintenance on them regularly. They're a bitch sometimes, but for the arcade feel and high latency, nothing really beats them.
