Publisher Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studio have released a new set of trailers and screenshots for Dead Island 2, including new information, a live-action short, and an extended look at gameplay.

Get the details below.

Today’s showcase featured a live-action pulp-adventure starring three fictional characters set in a similar universe to Dead Island 2. With the military long gone, we follow the fearless survivors as they search for a safe haven from the virus outbreak and zombie hordes. As they roam the supposedly abandoned mansion of a local video game and movie producer in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills, they’ll soon discover that nowhere is safe.
Welcome to HELL-A
The new Dead Island 2 Welcome to HELL-A Trailer also premiered—narrated by Jacob and Amy, two of the game’s slayers, as they visit HELL-A. Witness Dead Island 2‘s unique gore tech, upgradable weapon and combat system, and, of course, its gruesome zombies. Join the slayers as they take you on a tour around the stylish, sunbaked zombie-smashing playground of HELL-A.
Alexa Game Control
Another surprise inside the showcase was a sneak peek into the Alexa Game Control feature, which allows players to quickly perform in-game actions using their voice. This feature will be launching in Dead Island 2 for Xbox and PC, for English in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

I really liked Dying Light 1 and 2, never played Dead Island but this looks like a lot of fun. Especially for coop.

Will definitely be picking this up.

When a cross gen game that was in development hell looks way better visually than most next gen only games we've seen from major publishers.

Technical performance seems like a nightmare but overall I really like it.

Is this completely open world? That'd be sick.

I actually liked the og Dead Islands more than Dying Light lol, though that was fun as well. Having different characters is much more my style, especially when playing with friends. Can't wait to get down on this with them.

I'm a huge fan of Dying Light 1 and 2 and Dead Island. The only issue I'm noticing in the trailer is the lack of zombies? The shots got a few at best and the rest of the area is empty. Some of the shots they took show like 2 zombies in a big street. I'm starting to get skeptical lol

Love the art style and am amazed how well realized it is from the original reveal trailer. Hope it sticks the landing.

Genuine question, what looks good here? The gameplay trailer is a lot of sizzle but seems really shallow. We learned is there's melee combat and guns, and that zombie enemies come in all shapes and sizes. Oh, and you get zombie powers.

What am I missing? The graphics look good, but this looks like a 7.6 on a good day.

Games don't always have to be raising the bar. Sometimes just dispatching zombies in all sorts of zany ways set in a colourful and lush environment is all you need baby!

I fully expect this to release in an absolute broken state like so many other games have recently but technical issues aside I think it could be a lot of fun.

I'm kind of tired of zombie comedies (it's seemingly the default for zombie games), and I'm not as impressed by the visuals as everyone else seems to be... but the gameplay looks really fun! I wonder if it'll manage to do anything better than Dying Light. If it doesn't, it should still be fun.
Pre-orders? Alexa gameplay? Never heard of any such thing.

You know.. I know this is probably a snarky comment, but it bothers me more than it should that a game called 'Dead Island' doesn't take place on an island. Should have called it Dead Continent. For shame.

Why shouldn't they? Even if in some, minor way?

You still haven't told me what makes this SO good, and you're being very charitable as an audience member. It's fun to like bland things in a colorful environment? Is it the Alexa integration? I just want to understand.

Epic game store exclusive...

I will never understand why people get triggered if a game that's on same Platform is simply on Epic Games versus other Digital stores makes 0 sense. Who gives a fuck what it's on, it's same damn game on same gaming platform 🤡

If you don't understand why you shouldn't have posted at all. "I don't understand why people take objection to creating yet another account for yet another service with yet another friends list! There's nothing wrong with EGS, that's why Epic pays publishers for 6 - 12 month exclusivity periods. It's not because it's a piece of shit under developed store/service with nothing to offer consumers to the point that without paying publishers titles would rarely be released on it at all, it's because they love games and game developers."

It's hilarious to think back to 10+ years ago when there was active push back to every new DRM scheme and launcher, and microtransactions and insignificant DLC were held in poor regard. Now all of it is accepted or rationalized with shit tier thinking, or masochists with a fetish involving backing themselves right up to that big fat corporate cock and being fucked while saying thank you.

Epic is completely anti-consumer when it comes to their storefront. Fuck their stupid business practices and fuck their shitty launcher.

I'm guessing big bucks was given to Deep Silver (although they are always doing this) to not have this on Steam. Probably would have been a huge launch on Steam and GoG. It will not be EGS.

Damn shame, looks pretty fun compared to Dying Light 2. Will not ever get, even when it inevitably releases on Steam.

Cross gen still going strong in 2023.

I mean sure, but this game was in development for ages, it would have been weird if it wasn't for the very systems it was made for lol

I'm kind of tired of zombie comedies
lol you mean 3 games?

Agreed.

I'll be keeping an eye out for this one.

Needs more homeless encampments, meth heads, scammers faking the death of a friend/family member to pay for a funeral and traffic. In its current state it still isn't as bad as LA.
Oh and taxes.

whos knows how much jokes and references are made regarding that in the game.

I'd love to find some meth lab in the forest that has like propane tanks and shit lol

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
world design seems alot better than the yellowish depressed world of dying light

Agreed.

I like that they are embracing the silliness and going for a gore, light hearted, dark comical type thing. It sets them apart especially with a lot of the games coming out in the next few months.

Dead Space remake
RE4 remake
Silent Hill 2 remake

etc

Granted they are not all the same and I don't wish for anyone to take my post that way, merely that they are all dark, survival horror titles and maybe that comical, in the daylight difference can keep it on everyone's radar.

Interestingly, Dambuster Studios restarted development from scratch when they were given the game so in effect it has only been in development for a couple of years. If you're interested in the old version of the game there's a leaked pre-restart build from 2015 that's easy to find.

Dying Light 2 was pretty decent so I’ll give this at least a look.
This is a completely different developer that have no track record on this franchise. Techland did dead island 1 and riptide then wanted to change the direction of the series, Deep silver told them no so they left . They couldn’t take the IP so dead island 2 essentially became dying light. This game is just using the IP, it might be great but it should definitely be judged in isolation. If this was techland developed I would have it pre ordered.

The game looks quite good, I liked Dead Island 1 in a silly way and had to get it imported for the PS3 at the time because it wasn't sold here.
If the gore system lives up to its promise, that's reason enough for me to play the game. "Real" classic zombies, and not some glowing mutant garbage like in most games, make a difference.
I hope that Dead Island 2 just does what it feels like and doesn't try to copy other games or gameplay elements like certain other open world (zombie) games.

I would have it pre ordered.
It's 2022, you no longer preorder anything.

Holy shit this looks tight. The combat especially. Dying Light 2 was really disappointing in that regard. I Just hope that you can repair weapons or they don't break at all. I hate getting a super cool sword and not being able to use it for as long as I want to. The firearms also are a welcome addition. Can't wait to use a grenade launcher on a zombie horde. Probably day 1 for me. 2023 is getting better and better.

Gore and zombie variety seems excellent, they have both fresh zombie and decadent zombies.
And there also seem to be some spookier passages. It's not all bright sunshine and over the top action, it seems. Very excited for this game. Really looking great so far.

I hardly get scared by zombies, they are too overused to have an effect anymore on me.

But i like the body horror and how ugly they are.

Thats what I like about the 1st Dead Island (currently replaying it on XSX), the total opposite to Dead Rising, the few funny moments a just an exception of the rule, mostly it is tragic bios/quests paired with extreme brutality, like some low budget zombie shocker.
Dying Light was fun as well, but I didn't like the added blockbuster approach with WB involved, DI is still my favorite, not sure about the second with its funny stuff.

I didn't know this was cross gen but it has been in development for such a long time I can understand why. I loved the first game but never tried Riptide. It's cool that it's more batshit insane
