Team Ninja's Hiroaki Morita via Twitter revealed that after the release of Dead or Alive 6 a small team was working on Dead or Alive 7 and on small updates for the sixth entry in the fighting series.

Morita said that just before the series director Yohei Shinbori retired the team working on Dead or Alive 7 was disbanded and the game ultimately cancelled.

Once the news was shared, Morita made his Twitter profile private

honestly, anyone interested in the series should just buy DOA3/Ultimate on Xbox One or SX and you're good

The genre in general is stagnating, this is not the 90s golden era anymore.
At this point it's always new stages, characters, DLC costumes, f2p bullshit and some useless overcomplications to claim there are gameplay changes.
Under these circumstances only the biggest brands can survive and those are Tekken and Street Fighter.
Too bad because my most beloved memories with fighting games are with Tekken3, Soul Calibur 2 and DOA2.

Right up there with "You only play it because of the boobs". We've all got real porn anytime we want so that's a stupid assessment. I remember playing the first one, in the arcade on the Sega model 2 hardware, way back in the late 90's. Shame there was no perfect port of that.

DOA 3 was the reason to have my first xbox, that with Ninja Gaiden were the best looking games of that whole gen.

They prototyped and reworked Nioh for literally 10 years, and then it came out as one of the best action games ever made.

They've probably been prototyping Ninja Gaiden 4 this entire time until they get a killer idea worthy of returning to the series. They already said publicly it is their most important series and will one day return.

DOA6 just wasn't fun. It was one of my favorite fighters through DOA4. DOA5 was mostly OK. Too much emphasis on making it a T&A dress up simulator killed it.
