Dear fellow, I do not make a lot of topics but I am out of the loop on the pricing on the Laptops.

I specifically want a quad core processor and as much ram as possible as I will be using VMware for study purpose. Networking stuff as much as . Running GNS3 type of stuff and emulating Firewalls.

Gaming is not my interested however if I do use it, I will use it to play old classics like

Fallout 3, Bioshock games.

Cosmetically it is not my concern as long as it functions. Personally I have a long history of laptops from HP and I never had any issues ever.

Here is the Link:

1299 $ CDN
- Intel Core i7-6700HQ/
- 1TB HDD
- 16GB DDR4 RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M/ Windows 10

From what I have checked, there is also another higher level modem with Nvidia 965m with 4k display which will eat up more battery life.

Okay so the price of okay, I would prefer to spend 1099 + tax however I am not sure if this is going to go on sale and if I should hold up for a month or 2.

My main concern is, I use Windows 7 in and out. At work and also in my home desktop so I would prefer to get rid of Win10. If I full format the hard drive can I some how keep Win10 key incase I want to install it down the line?

Thanks for reading.

One thing I would say as I have bad experience with the company is try to look for other computer company than HP if you want something to last a bit longer. I would look at either Acer, Asus, Msi, Dell, Lenovo, etc.

If gaming isnt something you care, may look at the bussiness line laptop mostly the workstation which will give you the power but you will be paying quite a bit of money for it. So, if you stick around $1000 dollars, you will have some limited of choice of what laptop you can get within the price range.

It would be foolish if you to dump 10 and go to 7. 10 is going to infinitely more compatible with newer hardware.

Can you please elaborate more? I am trying to find anything similar from others companies as well but no one is offering i7 16 gig..

Thank you

What you're asking isn't coming from $1000 to $1300 dollars budget. Those item will start over $1600 easy and goes up based on what you want in the laptop. Basically, a powerful workstation will be something you're asking for if it's for work.

Iill say that I would be perfectly happy if I had that Laptop OP.... though I'm personally a fan of the Surface line of computers and would opt for those given the chance.

That said,
What part of Canada are you in OP?
Is this Laptop going to be for Work or for School?
What is the maximum budget you would feel comfortable spending?

I would say that is not a good price for that laptop.
OP is Canadian. In which case, the prices match up since most computers are 200-300 more expensive here.

I am a bit confused, you initially stated that the price is not good, and from the stuff I want the price will start over 1600 easy?

so then this laptop is good value considering it has a quad core processor, 16 gig ram ?

I think that laptop is way over and above what you'll need for school. I studied networking at school, and mostly all the VMs ran linux.

If you want an i7, you want an i7. But if you're not comfortable spending that much money, don't. You don't need to spend anywhere near that much on a laptop for school.

Well, it will be my School/study and Home Computer.

I just want to know if what the asking price is reasonable.

Basically at that price point I would expect a better graphics card that has more vram and a HHD + SSD combo

Here is a laptop that is equivalent to yours that is cheaper and it has a 1TB HHD+128gb SSD

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc..._-na&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-%zn

And I wouldn't even recommend that, if you're willing to shop the sales better laptops will come, especially when the new Nvidia cards take off and companies want to clear old stock.

Okay thank you, I assumed that NewEgg was US only.

So any idea when the new Nvidia cards launch?

Thank you again.
