Death Stranding 2 is a total mess

Yeah, I've loved DS 1 but didnt play more than 8h of the sequel

Focus on vehicles completely changed the gameplay for the worse. The game has more combat, but gameplay doesnt feel as good as MGS V, for example. Combat and stealth feels tacked on.

And the story, oh boy. Pacing is horrible and dialogue seems to be written by AI. Everyone seems robotic.

Very overrated game

everything he's ever made storywise has been a complete mess, this isnt new lol

had Metal Gear 2 not had decent stealth gameplay it would have been a 2/10 lets be honest.

DS2 is a much more casual game, which is why I prefer it and it's not even a question. I don't have the nerve the fiddle with too many games systems. Just let me play the game and enjoy (sometime more, sometimes less) the wacky Kojima writing.

Just completed my second playthrough on the new difficulty level, it's nuts. Agreed, the game is a total mess, the writing bounces between cringe, awesome and goofy.
I wouldn't call it easy, especially if you want to S-rank everything. That's party because the gunplay is ass, bosses can one-shot you, but also the express deliveries require a bit of planning. Especially the Mr. Impossible ones.
I like that I can use vehicles 90% of the time. If you want, you can bring out the floating carriers and walk, but I got shit to do!
Anyways, back to building all the roads and monorail again!

Edit: fuck the snowy mountains.

I gave up on it.

I think I was trying to crawl away from that guitar prick covered in oil and I kept dying like over and over and over and over and over and over and meh

I was like fuck this shit

Combat- more deadly, random enemy encounters is what should have been improved instead of giving more enemies that just attack you with 2-3 moves is what should have been improved.
Also what I was most disappointed by is that environmental disasters are strictly bound to certain areas. So you can get flood in one river, but not in next etc.
I do hope he goes all out for Physint since it's pure espionage.

It can be a total vibe though when you have to cover areas without signal and have to prepare for trip or once you make route with those zip lines, it's satisfying af

This is probably just what happens when you get Hollywood actors trying to say Kojima dialog, back in the day the VAs would bring just enough of an anime esque vibe to make it work, but more "naturalistic" acting probably just translates to robotic when it comes to what his characters say.

Now, this is a game I don't play for the story. I like the core mechanics and I can switch off from some of the batshit Kojima isms and enjoy the pretty character models.

^ Probably people waiting for a sale is a reason for poor sales. Also let's not forget Crimson Desert had way more of a astronomically level of hype than DS2 did.
Are you saying there was no hype and marketing for DS? Come on man, they went all out with the trailers. The only hype Crimson got was because of the graphics. Once it came out, it was a legit good game. DS had millions pumped into it, new actors, Kojima brand, and it sold below expectations even with shining reviews. Haven't played it yet but they definitely dropped the ball somewhere when they couldn't get people to buy their game.

Death Stranding 2 gameplay is so much better than the first one.

In terms of game design and environment design, it actually encourages you to get new tools and use them and upgrade them.

Every time a certain gameplay element tends to get stale it introduces a new upgrade that changes the dynamic. Which also changes the way you play the game.

In DS1 I didn't care to get tool upgrades, because even with the bare minimum you could breeze through the environment.

In DS2 I actually plan my route and pick gear accordingly, trying to balance weapons/tools/meds with keeping container size and weight in mind.
The way DS1 was meant to be played as well.
