Death Stranding 2's instantaneous loading times truly prove the power of the PS5

Players are already impressed by the incredibly fast loading times in Death Stranding 2, which only proves the power of the PS5 console, as well as Guerrilla Games' Decima game engine used by Kojima Productions.

One player posted a video to reddit, stating "Death Stranding 2 has the fastest loading time I've ever seen in a video game". The video itself shows the game impressively loading from menu to gameplay in a split second.

When the PS5 launched, Sony touted the fast loading of the console's SSD as a major selling point. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart - though it released months after launch - was seen as a key example of this technology. What's more, the Decima Engine was created by Horizon Zero Dawn studio Guerrilla Games and used for its games since PS4 release Killzone: Shadow Fall, yielding impressive results.

Yet Kojima Productions has clearly worked some magic with Death Stranding 2 - its load times really are astonishing. Take a look for yourself:

In short, Death Stranding 2 is an exceptional technical achievement that truly shows the power of Sony's PS5 consoles, as well as the Decima game engine.

PS5 is always been a good hardware, while Decima engine is a very good game engine and Sony Xdev are expert when it comes to technical support to game developers. PS only blunders this generation are the gaas obsession and some wokeness to some games.

At least based on the first video, it's clear that quitting the game never unloads it in the first place. Game likely loads behind the scenes before you ever start it.
I doubt it will perform exactly this instantaneously when you have multiple save points at various locations.

It's not just the SSD, it's also the custom pipeline they built into the hardware that my guess is few games take advantage of.
So glad someone else said it. I don't think everyone understands this bit of it. It's not the SSD. It's the hardware decompression unit built into the system that makes for that speed. You have to actually use it though, and the games that do, it's obvious.

While this is, of course, bullshit (an example was also highlighted in the article), even if that were true, it wouldn't be a fault of the system. The tools were provided.

No promise was ever given of instant loading for every game either, but clearly when utilized, the system does what it was designed to do.

As much as I love DS2 tech, it's just a recent example. SM2/Miles, R&C, GT7 and HFW are barely slouches too.

Hell, even Stellar Blade on PS5 don't use loading screens as an entity and they were (badly) made for PC specifically.

Point is: other games are very, blazingly fast. The current iteration of Decima is simply instantaneous.

Doom TDA loads just as fast on my PC...

I guess that just shows the full power of my cheap external SATA USB SSD 🤣
