Dell WindowsXP disks????

Does anyone know if the WindowsXP disk that come with Dell PC's and laptops can be used to install XP on a computer that's not even a Dell computer? I don't mean having it installed on both PC's, but like you ditch the Dell and want to use the XP disk on a new computer you built??

The reason I ask is because I just ordered a 700m notebook. I upgraded to XP Pro, but now I'm thinking of the following scenario. I already have an XP Pro disk because I use Pro on my desktop. I need Pro on my laptop moreso than on my desktop at home, so I was thinking of calling Dell and changing my order back to just XP Home instead. Then, when the 700m got here I'd just format and do a clean install of XP Pro on the 700m from my own disk and install XP Home on my desktop from the Dell disk. However, if the Dell WindowsXP disk will only install on a Dell machine this obviously won't work, so I'd like to know ahead of time before I call and try to change my order.

Thanks guys.

No, it won't work. There's probably some type of bios check that makes it not work with non-Dell computers.

Yes, it works.

I know this first hand (I put XP on my home computer--which is an eMachines comp--using a Dell XP disc).
