DemaSked interview online

The oh-so-anticipated interview between N-Sider and Chad Paulson from WarpPipe is online: http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=439

Rough summary for people following the whole story:
- DemaSked is NOT a direct-to-consumer product, but is aimed at developers/publisher
- Magellan was the original codename for the project (hence the 'clues')
- NO connection between WarpPipe and Nintendo/GameSpy
- The 'chorx' are the characters from an upcoming flash-game by WarpPipe to show the possibilities of their service
- DemaSked is not 'exclusive' for the Nintendo DS. Next-gen consoles and the PSP could theoretically use the service as well
- First view maybe at E3 (behind closed doors though)

This whole thing seems lame to me. They shouldn't have even said anything until they could tell us more than they have.

I think it's dumb that they tried to generate hype for their product among us gamers while we can't even decide wether we want to have it or not. It's all in the hand of developers if they want to use this product.

I read that whole thing and it sounded like buzzwords and skirting of info. Plus him ragging on XBOX live, which is actually an excellent implementation and not much like the PC online thing at all.

Sounds like he is just expanding on user identity a lot. Pity all that will result in is cock shots everywhere.

That was... odd. A few thoughts...

* Why does he mention working at Warner Bros. multiple times? That's never been mentioned in Warp Pipe info before, and it just sounds suspicious... especially when he is quick and vague about it. It sounds almost as though an intern were name dropping. (I'm not saying that he is, mind you, but it does sound slightly out of place)

* The best I can scrape out of that interview is that "Demasked" is some sort of new, networking "standard" for online games. The advantage of the standard would be that it somehow allows for unlimited "backwards compatibilty" with Demasked products as time goes forward, but without having to run multiple server programs. Rather, the Demasked server (if that's what this is) is able to run multiple Demasked games simultaneously in a mostly effective manner...

* There's something in this which ties into distributed networking/computing in some way, even if it's just a server redirecting you to peer-to-peer matches. The "Ant Farm" thing sounds like tons of users all working together to run the whole unit.

* If he's stressing community this much, it's possible that any distributed networking/computing would be flavored by the individual users. Each user is able to set a "profile world" for their account/computer, and that has some impact on other gamers either challenging them or "visiting".

Just a few thoughts... and they're probably mostly wrong.
