WASHINGTON Democratic lawmakers want President Bush to ask Canada to stop shipping trash to Michigan when he meets with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin later this month.

U-S Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow and Representative John Dingell have sent a letter today to Bush expressing their concern.

Dana Perino is a spokeswoman for the White House Council on Environmental Quality. She says the White House has received the letter and will consider it.

There's no reason why there would have to be some request to the president. If the policy makers in charge in michigan were unhappy about the situation, they'd stop accepting the money paid in order for them to accept the garbage

Exactly. Its not like the trash is just arriving unrequested from Canada and the Michigan policy makers are saying "well shit, more trash - I guess we'll put in that pile over there"
