Why do people do this?

I love my girlfriend, I even have a picture of her on my desk at home, but there will never ever be a day where a picture of her is on my PC's desktop.

I just don't understand.

BUT, if you have to have the picture on your desktop, fine, do it at home. But why do it at work?

On a separate note, I need my own office.

Not my significant other, but I keep a picture of a friend on my desktop since I didn't have an actual photo to put in a frame.

I like keeping pictures of my friends around, it reminds me of what I find good about the world.

What's the big deal with putting a picture of a girlfriend/boyfriend on your desktop at work? I have a long distance relationship at the moment, and when I'm at work (like now), it sometimes helps to see a picture of us together on my desktop. I guess I'd rather see a picture of the woman I love on my computer than an anime girl with big breasts (ok...not ALWAYS true, but still...)

Why does it bother you so much what's on someone elses computer?

And if you must have some justification for it rather than just letting it be, maybe they have the pic there so that everytime they think "God, why do I stay in this shitty job?" they can look at their loved one and remember why.

I've guilty as charged, but I do have my own office and I usually have lots or programs running anyway, so I guess it's no big deal. Seeing her every once in a while throughout the day, even if it's just a picture, always seems to lift my mood.

I am just asking why people do it, and why do it at work? You guys act like I said "OMFG I am going to cry, why is that picture on her computer wah wah wah".

Just looking for reasons. I don't know about you guys, but I rarely ever see my desktop unless I'm getting a file from it. Either I'm doing something on my computer, so I don't see my desktop, or I'm not near the computer at all.

Eh, let people do what they want I guess. I do find it a little weird when I see it on people's laptops at school though. Don't know why. If I was that person I'd feel odd too since I'd be showing my personal life to whoever chose to look at my computer screen.

I fixed this guys computer the other day, funny little indian dude, and he had a picture of HIMSELF on his desktop. Just like a mugshot. That was weird.

I think the wallpaper of the other half is a bit akin to wearing a t-shirt with your partners face on it....

No, it's not that weird, it's much more like having their picture on your desk.

Having it on a t-shirt would be like advertising it to the world, on the desktop is for you (even if others can look over your shoulder and see it).
