If I was a Raptors fan seeing what New Jersey's doing I'd be livid. I don't know how Vince Carter can look himself in the mirror. Of course management was the one who traded him for a couple itchy jockstraps. One of them didn't even want to be there and got paid for nothing. If I was season ticket holder I'd demand my money back at gunpoint. The worst part is that as long as they're in Canada the NBA will not let them win.

Just when I start to feel sorry for them I realize I this

to look forward to next year. Seriously in all these years you think they would accidentally have a good team. Bad players, bad coaches, bad management, bad owners. And when we do get someone with promise they get crippled, or die on the field, or run down in their frontyard, or go to jail for vehicular manslaughter. And when they had a chance to do something cool they fukked it up. Ford Field could've been an open stadium. Players already bitching about being in Detroit combined with snow in Nov/Dec and the wind from the river. It would've been completely demoralizing. But NOOO we had to get the Superbowl and attract a bunch of wannabe celebrity douchebags.

At least the Raptors were good for some laughs when the anthem got booed in the 02 series. Got to go to two games in that series, fun times.

while i agree that the last several decades have been rough for lions fans at least we have several NFL titles. The glory years of Bobby Layne and Tobin Rote will never be forgotten.

I curse him everyday to me friend. Fuck 'VC'.

The Raps are fucking screwed, even moreso than before :(

I stiil don't see what's so great about Joey Harrington. I mean some of the throws this guy

attempts makes me think he's color blind :lol

The Toronto Raptors didn't quicken the pace for Barry Sanders NFL departure, so I'd go with Detriot Lions being the worse of the 2.

I think most NFL fans would have loved to continue seeing the 'Michael Jordan of running backs' highlights for a few more years, ahhhh well.

If you're thinking of the two worst franchises in sports, these two are far from it.

I'm not going to write up a long post, because it'll just end up turning into a death thread to Vince Carter. Yeah, I'm losing all motivation now. :( Fuck Vince, fuck his mom. Fuck Babcock....Let's go Jays!

This post went well.

the Vikings! I know it wasn't an option but the only other pro sports team to get it's fans hopes up only to be let down as much as the Vikings have is the Red Socks (and maybe the Bills) but the BoSocks just won the World Series. I mean who has gone though more torture than Vikings fans? We have never, ever won a superbowl despite being to 3 superbowls and in 1998 having the highest scoring team in NFL history. max_cool am cry for the Vikings and for living in AZ with the damned Cardinals :(

I've been a Detroit Lions fan as far back as I can remember and the problem is really not taking advantedge of Barry Sanders and Herman Moore when we had them.

This is our year baby. Honestly Lions will be one of the top teams in the NFC.

Cubs? Flyers?

I have no pity for the Vikings. THe lions have never even been to a superbowl. Most of us would KILL to say that our team had been to three. When the management isn't making stupid calls, the coaching is. And when the coaching isn't, the players are. Managements bad call? Drafting Joey harrington (case in point: marty mornhinwheg was interviewed by Stoney and Wojo (WDFN 1130) and told them that he wanted to get Quintin Jammer that year, and did everything he could to get Millen not to draft Harrington.) Coaches bad call? Aside from HIRING Mornhinweg, remember the coin toss in Chicago? KICKING in OT? With Jason Hanson as your kicker (good from anywhere inside the 40)? Ugh. And the players making bad calls? Watch a highlight reel of a game. Any game. Just pick one.

the bitch about the Lions is that they've had amazing players in their grasp. Remember in 1995 when they had that awesome offense, when Mitchell had a good year, Barry in the backfield, Moore and Perriman as receivers? ugh. I wouldn't sell Joey Harrington yet... remember every other QB that took 3-4 years to come into their own. In Garcia, at least you've got a guy who knwos the marriuci offense and was a probowler 2 years ago.

I digress. Two worst organizations in pro sports though? Heh... we'll go with the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers!!!

The Vancouver Grizzlies will go down as the worst in history. Though I suppose the 'franchise' is contuining in Memphis now and doing quite good.

Toronto? Well, it's pretty awful. What a miserable experience it must be as a Raptors fan. That is, excluding certain high points. It's been especially painful, I'm sure, with the NHL lockout and an anxious media.

I'm from Detroit, the irony of it all is that I work for Ford Motor Company too. It's fucked up. I promise I will step on a plane again to go to wherever they play in a Super Bowl, if it happens in my lifetime. Lions have fucked up karma or something

We will go nowhere with Harrington taking snaps at center.

The best QB during my lifetime was Chuck Long, a long ass time ago

So you say, but had you been to three, one of which you by all accounts were supposed to win yet still lose, I'd say is far more dissapointing than not getting to the superbowl. 1998 especially hurt since Gary Anderson hadn't missed a field goal all season and just happened to miss the most important one of the season, hell the most important field goal of the past 20 years as a Vikings fan. The pain has left deep emotional scars and as a person now living in Phoeinx I can honestly say it's much easier being a fan of a perpetual looser than a fan of team that should win but doesn't, hence why I simpathise with the BoSox and the Bills.

Joey Harrington is steadily improved over the last three years. I think he will have a great year this year. Just my opinion anyway and I know I'm in the minority when it comes to Lion fans in that opinion.

Matt Millen isn't even required to live in Michigan. WTF is up with that? They used to have a kickass defense once about a time. Spielman, Blades, Crockett, Ball, among others. Scott Mitchell is the reason Barry left. Every QB has been better than that fuckin stiff. Kramer, Peete, fuck, even Andre fuckin Ware. Scott Mitchell will get bitch-slapped if ever I meet him one day.

Harrington is going to have the Chris Osgood curse on him this year. He's only going to be measured by one thing: wins. If he doesn't win, he's gone. He could throw for a 60% completion rate and average a 110 QB rating for the season, throw 25 TDs and only 5 picks, and he'll still be gone if he doesn't at least get to the playoffs this year. Just like osgood in 2000 when the Wings lost to the Avs. Ozzy played a GREAT series and they still axed him because of the lost, just cuz the rest of the team couldn't put more than 2 goals on the board in a single game that series.

ESPN did a Top 10 worst free agent aquisitions like a week or two ago, and Scott Mitchell was the worst of all time. He set the Lions franchise about 10 years back.

Can't wait to see who the Lions pick up this Saturday though.

But with guys like Kevin Jones, Roy Williams and Charles Rogers around him, there is no way they can lose if he puts up numbers like that.

Also if we get a defensive player this draft our defense is gonna look very strong.

He did! I never saw those Dolphin games where he magically turned himself into a Hall of Fame type QB prospect, but that shit must be ESPN Classic worthy because I remember Detroit News and Free Press heralding him to be the shit, even Mitch Albom was going apeshit. Bad memories coming back............thinks about present........Charles gets hurt every year..........

I was never as happy as I was to be a Lions fan the day Washington waxed our asses in the NFC championship game. We rode the wave of Mike Utley, then got destroyed. They had a good young nucleus, but broke it apart. I played Tecmo Bowl all that day, I was so pumped up.

I'm going to say that the worst franchise around is my hometown Cincinnati Bengals.

Not only do they seem to suck nearly every season, to the point I just don't care about what they do anymore, but they also managed to get themselves a new stadium, and a damn good one at that, just by threatening to take their suckfest elsewhere!

Blah blah blah, people bitch about Harrington way too much. I've been watching him play since his days at Oregon. He takes way too much heat for being surrounded with crap players. Just watching the O-line trying to protect is just sad. He's almost always scrambling for his life. Yeah he has Kevin Jones behind him now, but Jones didn't do much until later on in the season. Charles Rogers, who was supposed to be his man target has broken his collarbone, not once.. BUT TWICE in the last two years. He's played like a total of 5-6 games. Watching the other so-called recievers (other than Roy Williams) try to catch is sad. Either they can't run routes or they just drop passes.

Sure Harrington makes his mistakes, but put him on a team where he doesn't get chased down almost every play and give him at least TWO recievers who can catch, and he'd flourish. If Rogers stays healthy, Jones keeps improving and Williams keeps on playing like he did last year, they'll be a much better team this year.

You guys remember when ESPN did those "True Fan" commercials? It had the kid on there going "C'mon Barry, c'mon back! It aint too late! We're going all the way this year, you know you want on board!" Then the commercial said something nice and enlightening about true fans.

I was never prouder to be a Lions fan.

For the NFL it's a toss-up between Cleveland and Detroit for me. Cincinatti hasn't been around long enough. And how can you all miss the obvious NBA answer? The western conference doormat LA Clippers. Even when they actually field a semi-decent team they get bent over by injuries as chronicled by The Sports Guy this year. The only competition is maybe Golden State, but I think they were good back before I was born in the late70's/early 80's.

Although technically my own hometown Phillies are the losingest franchise in the history OF ALL SPORTS!! Top that!!

Toronto Raptors are the inferior franchise by far. Although I'm from Michigan (Traverse City represent) I am and never will be a Lions fan. However, the Lions have a decent team name. The Raptors on the other hand were named after a movie - Jurassic Park. I think naming a long term team after a popular trend is retarded. Ands besides that, not one Raptors coach has been able to use the famous Raptor attack from the Jurassic Park movie. Can you imagine their record if they employed this tactic into their playbook? "Iverson sees Rose defending him up ahead ... but what's this? Chris Bosh and Rafer Alston attack from the sides and steal the ball!" I rest my case.

Not bitter, just unsweetened
since the raptors are owned by the leafs which are owned by teachers....

the team isn't going anywhere anytime soon me thinks.

They ARE willing to spend money, they just need to start spending it in the right places. Like... they had some damn good talent over the course of the last 10 years but they seem to not want the players or seem to piss them off.

tracy mcgrady? vince carter?

like wtf.

The raptors are nowhere close to the worst franchise. They're just the dumbest.

My most favorite of times as a Vikings fan was when Moss was signed. "We don't need 2 veteran recievers and TE, and we certainly don't need any of the 4 remaining old guard OL, send them packing; especially Ed McDaniel." >_<

And he says this when they've been to two Superbowls in the last twenty five years. :lol Should've won it in '88, but we know what happened there.

BTW, any discussion about worst sports franchises that doesn't include the Clippers, Saints or Arizona Cardinals is immediately dismissable.

On point...six coaches and three GM's in the franchises history, and only one of 'em had prior experience. That's a recepie for disaster, particularly when the only guy with experience (Lenny Wilkens) hadn't been worth a damn in 15 years. Spend cheap at the top, and it'll work it's way down. The drafting history is pretty sad as well...they've yet to have a second round pick stick around for more then a year (though Pape Sow this year might be the first), and they've only really had four great first round picks in Damon, T-Mac, Vince and Bosh. For the record they've had throughout their history, that isn't nearly good enough (last summer's 8th pick Araujo has turned into one of the biggest stiffs in recent memory). The fact that this team has seen more soap opera, bushleague shit going down after the alleged cancer got dealt shows that he was hardly the root of this team's problems. Makes no difference anymore...Spurs were my first NBA team anyway, and the Nets are now my third with Vince being there. But I'll root for the Raptors as long as they stay around, which might not be for long after Bosh moves down to Texas.

The Raptors still have some more groundwork to reach the crappy hall of fame, especially considering it took the Saints 20 years to make their first playoff appearance and 33 years to win a playoff game (their only one).

Well that about wraps that up. 3 years of first round money in one position. The way this regime let the Defense rot is criminal.

Butch Carter throwing a hissy fit and comiiting career suicide in a successful bid to take out Glen Grunwald pretty much killed the Raptors. And was completely freaking bizzare to boot.
