Developer of Blue Dragon is Mistwalker + Artoon

"Blinx 1 and 2, Yoshi Gravitational... they just pretty much sucked ass."

Yoshi is average
Blinx 1 and 2 pretty much suck AS GAMES

but none are BADLY WRITTEN

Artoon suck at games design and art BUT THEY AREN'T DOING EITHER FOR THIS GAME.

That's because they're barely written at all. Just stop making excuses. Artoon sucks, and we'll see if they stop sucking with Blue Dragon. It's perfectly possible.

And Yoshi Gravitational is in no way average. Just no.

You don't think Blinx is at least solid?
Did you even play it?

hahahaha

Yeah, if it wasn't for Blinx's engaging storyline, I would've stopped playing the game 5 minutes in, but damn them to hell, I needed to know the origin of those lucky charm powerups!

CURSE YOU ARTOON SCRIBE, YOUR MASTERFUL ARTISTRY WITH THOSE ELECTRONIC CALIGRAPHIC DEVICES MIRRORS ONLY OUR LORD AND SAVIOR IN TERMS OF SPIRITUAL REDEMPTION

Solid in what way? Technically? Aesthetically? I'm just trying to see where you're going with this. In any event, technically it was decent. "solid", I guess is a fine word. If you're suggesting that Artoon had nothing to do with the gameplay, story, and everything else that is so integral to the title, then I'll take a step back and say that it's only slightly less worse news now.

let me try one last time in GAF BLACK AND WHITE...

BLinx :

Story : Shit
Gameplay : Shit
Art : Shit
Character design : Shit
Level design : Shit

Game execution : Good

As long as the game is well designed, and they don't get a chance to f*ck with the art, then most software houses should be able to not fuck things up no matter how incompetent they are.

To reiterate - whilst Blinx 1 + 2 are indeed SHITE games, neither of them on a technical level are astonishingly bad. Both are actually pretty competent. So , with the downsides and fail areas taken away from Artoon, i don't see why we are already condeming the game ?

you're going to have to go a lot more black and white than that

how can the "game execution" be "good" if EVERY SINGLE THING IN IT is shit? I mean, this is what i'm trying to understand now. What did Artoon do, create an engine that some fucked up asshats could create a few shitty levels in to the horrible gameplay of Blinx? I'm just confused. So in Black and White, what aspects of blinx did Artoon have a direct involvement in and can you provide a source to back this up.

:lol Sorry, I completely misunderstood you there.

Though I disagree with Blinx being well designed, I think it was an awesome concept and they utterly fucked up on it. I'm sure others hold the same opinion.

I can tell your're having just as much fun as me on GAF today!

Oh, and :lol MS are really coming out all guns blazing.

"how can the "game execution" be "good" if EVERY SINGLE THING IN IT is shit?"

HAVE YOU PLAYED BLINX?? the game engine is pretty good. Infact, as shit as i keep saying the game is, i don't think it's half as bad as people make out.

"I mean, this is what i'm trying to understand now. What did Artoon do, create an engine that some fucked up asshats could create a few shitty levels in to the horrible gameplay of Blinx? I'm just confused."

They created a great engine, but had shite art and shite ideas as to what makes a good game. The basis was there, but in terms of putting it into a complete package, they fucked up BIG TIME - which was entirely Artoons fault.

"So in Black and White, what aspects of blinx did Artoon have a direct involvement in and can you provide a source to back this up."

They were involved in ALL aspects of Blinx - which was entirely the problem!!!
This time they aren't, which should be beneficial to the project.
"Sorry, I completely misunderstood you there."

I assumed as such :) - even i wouldn't be retarded enough to call Blinx a great story...

.... or would i ?!

if mistwalker are handling the game design, then i'm sure artoon can handle the technical side. but...how do you know mistwalker are handling the game design?

Amir0x, let's put it another way.
UGA made Rez.
They also made Astroboy for the PS2.
Does that mean UGA is shit?

While producers, directors and so on are often given a hard time for having little or nothing to do with the game, Sakaguchi and Mizuguchi have made names for themselves because they are damned good at their jobs. You shouldn't be too worried about the development team working under them - who was directing Blinx and Pinobee anyway?

naoto ohshima, iirc. who directed nights. so maybe the development team is important too. :/

Naoto Oshima - the designer of the original Sonic.

Yeah artoon is a pretty good tech team, they just suck at design. They have a few Team Andromeda members in the company. (I think five or six)

I know I'll get crucified for this, but I didn't think Blinx was that damn bad :lol. Played and finished it on a rental and didn't regret it. Wasn't a great game but not "OMFG worst evar!!!1" either. I haven't played any of Artoon's other games, but Blinx isn't going to make me write off this new RPG (yet).

OK, I see I picked the wrong role. Producer would fit maybe ;)

Anyway, here's my last attempt at damage control.

"You wanna go see that new Spielberg movie?"
"Hell no, Dan Chang is working on the editing."
"Shit! Let's rent Jaws instead".

Their weapon is "Shadow". Using various "Shadow Change" effects such as Sword, Assasin and Power Magic, they can unleash various different skills that enhance their own attack abilities. The man who stands before them as an enemy is Nene, an ancient one who wields magic that is long extinct. The detail is pretty damn good up close, and it seems they might have enough power to actually pull this off without celshading at all.

It definitely wasn't an atrocity of a game. I think some posters here write it off as garbage just to fit in, or something odd like that, but the game was a decent platformer for sure

Makes sense... Artoon was said to have been working on an Xbox/Xenon ARPG for about a year now. And yeah Artoon has a fairly crap track record but select staff have a fantastic pedigree (Sonic, NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon). I've still got hope they'll do something great.

Oh and Dark Cloud 1 is videogame scat. Easily my biggest dissapointment since Dark Savior and easily the worst ARPG I've played this generation. And I've played EGG. :/

According to an earlier interview with Sakaguchi, MW is designing the battle/skill systems and core dungeons and towns, etc., but some of the sidequests and things are being left to the developers.
