9.0 Presentation
A surprisingly well-told story gets a few extra scenes and is joined by speedy load-times and an excellent interface. Oh, and the cutscene direction rocks!
8.5 Graphics
Dante aged pretty well in the last year and his game still stands out as a visual thunderclap. Expect fast framerates, great textures and lighting effects, and inspiring artistic design throughout.
9.0 Sound
Superb digital mixing, an awesome soundtrack, and one of the better vocal casts that Capcom has ever used come together quite effectively.
9.0 Gameplay
A super-customizable combat system gets even deeper with an added character, readjusted difficulty settings, and a few other tweaks. It's still fun, fun stuff.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
The cool Bloody Palace arena mode, the ability to play as two completely different characters, and a host of secret missions should ensure extensive playtime.
9.0
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

The first version of Devil May Cry 3 was one of the best PlayStation 2 games of last year and seeing it come out again with a bunch of extra features and a price of only twenty bucks is definitely hard to resist... That is, unless you've already played the hell out of 2005's disc. Great upgrade that this might be, it's hard to justify picking it up again unless you're a diehard fan of the series or someone who has never played it before. Happy gaming to those that qualify!

It will be mine!

I need to pick up all 3 actually (2 just for collection purposes). I've played all 3, but I don't own any of them anymore.

Cool, I actually have time for this. I picked up DMC3 when it first came out but I was knee deep in college bullcrap and didn't have time for it.

Is it ever coming out in Europe? I'm certain it would be a full price title if it was actually released (we always get shafted over things like that) but I'd pay full price for it anyway. I just want my new DMC3 :D

I still have the original DMC3 sealed, unopened. Never got around to playing it. Now I'm wondering if I should bother with the new release...

WTF! They're giving this the Greatest Hits lamo packaging?

Not sold! :(

Play the game, not the boxart.

But I do agree that the packaging's not as likeable, they changed the SE text to yellow and a different font, I think, and the 3 as well. I don't like it as much as the logo in the videos.

Buy the original and the SE, swap the art insert?

Can't believe you'd rather have less game features and adjustments versus a different printout in the DVD case.

There are three games available that are enhanced in the Greatest Hit version (Silent Hill 2, VF4 Evolution and now DMC3).

If you extend your Greatest Hits taboo to even these enhanced titles.... It's official: You're shooting youself in the foot. I don't buy GH either but I make exceptions when, you know, they make it a better game than the original edition......

Twisted Metal Black GH has the online disc included as well

Fable PH too if we're including other consoles

I still hate this trend.

I don't mind it. I never got around to buying Silent Hill 2 when it first came out because a lot of other games came out fall 2001, so I ended up getting cheap and it with more features to boot. Same deal with this game.

And VF4 Evo had far more than enough to justify the price tag.

I saw the original for 20 euro a few weeks ago, but i didn't buy it because I heard it was pretty hard. Is it actually that bad, or should I wait for this to come out over here?

Just wait, cause if it is then you'll always be able to switch to the easy version.

It's hard for sure but it is by no means a bad game. The more I play the more I enjoy it. Good for folks who weren't weaned on no death walkthrough games.

I didn't know this was going to be released so soon, and budget-priced at that! Perfect, I never picked up the original version. Shame about the Greatest Hits boxart, but I can live with that.

Nope, DVD has red stripe too.

I hope the greatest hits labels are even more ugly next gen, just to piss off box art whores more :D Seriously tho, those not getting this version or getting the old version just because of the box art are a few IQ points away from being mentally retarded.

:lol Yep, pretty much.

*Silent Hill 2 GH nods in agreement*

Thanx Wario!

EDIT: This is kind of a pain in the ass:
Perhaps the most obvious issue, though, isn't a technical one at all -- but the fact that most of the new content (Bloody Palace, Vergil's Story, Very Hard Mode, etc) can't be unlocked unless you beat the game or import a save from DMC3. Personally, none of the locked content bothered me at all except for the Vergil bit -- as an advertised character and the biggest new feature of the game, he should be immediately selectable from the beginning regardless of your experience with the series.

So... you don't actually play the games or something? Do you only stare at the box art? It would seem so since you seem to be so upset about the game's packaging.

There is a contigent here who cares more about game collections than actual games.

Bwahahaha.... the funny thing is... I was all about avoiding the inconsistantly packaged GH games, and still am... but the second I heard about enchanced content in a GH game I thought that was neat.

In my game collection, the red stripe means extra hardcore.

I'd sell you my regular copy demo but I live in canada with no working paypal account with wich to make the transaction easily. Dunno if even a gold orb system could save it for me or not though... I'd still need 3 or 4 of them per level :P

Difficulty is not an issue at all anymore. In fact, Greg Kasavin actually thinks the SE edition is not as good as the original because the SE version is too easy. But what's funny was that he listed DMC3's (original version) only complaint as being too hard... Make up your mind Greg, is DMC3 too hard or too easy? :lol

1up review

9.0

Jesus Christ, 1UP is stealing review scores from IGN now

Actually, quite a few people got on IGN's case for giving the SE edition a lower score than the original. What's interesting is that GAF's perdictions regarding "IGN getting stricter on their review scores" is actually true, if Dunham's (editor in chief) comments on the PS2 IGN boards are anything to go by. Tis' the reason why the highest scoring Xbox360 game is a 9.0, especially considering how it was the same team that gave Jade Empire a 9.9. Interesting, IGN is going the strict route. So I'll warn you guys now, don't expect MGS3:S to get a 9.6 from IGN like the original MGS3 did.

Why would they complain that the game is too easy now? You have the option of choosing your difficulty and the original DMC3 difficulties are still there.
