Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that worldwide cumulative sales of Devil May Cry 5 have surpassed 10 million units.

In Devil May Cry 5, players can enjoy thrilling, high-speed gameplay, stylish action, and beautiful graphics, depicted with intricate realism thanks to Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE.

The title has garnered strong support from users due to its exceptional gameplay experience, leading to expanded sales as a catalog title since its release. Capcom provided an even more advanced story and action elements in the game with the addition of a new playable character, and more recently, on April 3, 2025, the company released the new Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix, in line with the company's Single Content Multiple Usage strategy. The animated series has garnered critical acclaim from around the world, and with more than 5.3 million views it ranked fourth during its first week globally in the "Shows | English" category, while also ranking in the top 10 for seven consecutive days in Japan. As a result of the game's exhilarating action, and due to efforts to enhance brand awareness by leveraging the title beyond the scope of videogames, including television adaptations, the title has now exceeded 10 million units in cumulative sales worldwide.

Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all stakeholders by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.

I liked the action, I like some of the characters and overall story, but this had so much backtracking and assets reuse to be annoying. Somehow I minded it a lot more than in DMC4 :/.

Yeah that's nice. But fellas, the important question here is, is this a character action game or an immersive sim?
I think it's a character RPG game. There's characters of who you play the role.

The success of the anime and this milestone, plus DD2 is now out…. Can we get a new DMC please? 🙏

Best selling version by far, followed by DMC3 at 7.2m

3rd person action games are super popular wow.

1st person bullshit take note.

There does indeed seem to have been a transition away from first person games being the top genre.

I'd have thought with the growth of VR the FPS genre would dominate, instead it seems to have declined.

Meme culture really helped this and I'm glad.

Between the plastic chairs, white monsters, gooners and gen z discovering the series, it really took some time to explode.

Is it me or I found it okay compared 3 and 4.
Narratively, I find 3 better. 4 on the other hand, I can feel the lack of time and budget. Literally half of the stages were just redone Nero stages done backward.

I could see someone prefer 3 but with the caveat that it's the new version and not the original release. The original release has limits on the style and weapons allowed per stage which the new version changed to be DMC4/5-like.

I also agree that 3 has the better stages. There's simply more variety, puzzles and cool cutscenes and even mission number on stages. I don't think you can replicate the cool factor it has.

It's also a lot easier to get into 3 as an entry point since it's the first one chronologically. 5 assumes you know most of the cast to really hammer home the story.

I tried to like it but the constant cut scenes and switching characters drove me crazy. Also seemed like the levels were really short which lead to more cut scenes. It just felt like a game filled with to much down time and not letting me play enough

Solid entry overall and glad the series returned but this game had awful level design. I'm similarly worried about NG4 - everything looks to be a flat plain.

I remember the game only doing modest numbers the first few months. Seems it was a slow, but very consistent burn.

It's about time for DMC6. DMC5 is cool and I'm glad it sold well but I would like to see a bigger budget next time.

Basically this. Probably Capcom's worse series in terms of asset reuse. DMC4 was especially egregious in this regard.

Companies only post these 'out of the blue' sales numbers from games years old. Only happens for two reasons:

1. Going on sale
2. Sequel getting announced

I need to finish it one of these days but I loathe Nero so damn much...

Nero isn't that bad, especially compared to V. He's an awful character all around.

I get that DMC games are about the gameplay, but between using face scans and the awful level design, it just felt extremely lazy from a creative standpoint.

Besides that, at this point the series has way too many characters being included in the story. However, unless Capcom reboots the series, again, unfortunately there's no way to shed all the excess dead weight that isn't Dante.

Capcom is REALLY bad about backtracking in games. Backtracking in a RE game used to make sense, due to puzzles. But with a lot of their other games they do this "run through level with character A" then "run through same level with Character B" bullshit. And it's not even an optional side campaign. It's completely mandatory.

I like V. I like the way he glides. I like the way he summons. I even like the taunts. I loathe Nero because he is like a defective Dante with a stupid destructible arm gimmick and sword handle revving.

Not really, although 10 million is a nice sales milestone to share for DMC5. Usually Capcom updates the sales figures for their major titles (Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, etc.) every quarter.

I keep going back to this, starting it again, and find myself saying "Why did I stop playing this?"
Then I get to using V..
"Ah.. I remember now..."
