SCEJ has confirmed that the direct PSP store will launch on October 15, along with PSP firmware 5.0.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has confirmed that the direct PSP store will officially launch on October 15, alongside the release of a new system software update: firmware 5.0. The update adds an XMB icon that allows users to access the PlayStation Store straight from their PSP.

Following the launch of the 5.0 firmware, Sony will begin offering select UMD based titles as digital downloads on the same day as their retail release date. A list of confirmed titles can be found below, along with release dates:

* Yuusha no Kuze ni Namaikida or2 (10/16)
* Bleach Soul Carnival (10/23)
* Secret Agent Clank (11/20)
* Patapon 2 (11/27)
* LocoRoco 2 (12/4)
* Diamond Gunshot (Spring 2009)
* Resistance Retribution (Spring 2009)

The release dates above are Japan only, but hopefully SCEA and SCEE have similar plans to release these titles on the store as well.

i guess from now on everyone will download their psp games :-)

Just curious, but who would buy digital downloads of PSP games? I have a 1 Gig Memory Stick, maybe 2. Still, wouldn't that only be one game. I guess the idea is to store it on the PS3. Well, count me out. Hard drive is maxed. :lol

Though, the direct PS Store sounds awesome and will give my PSP some additional life before the bombardment of awesome Japanese goodness.

I asked this in another thread and got nothing? Are there any plans for them to start putting older PSP games on the store?

I wonder if there will be a reaction in the retail chain. For the PSP and PS3.
I would expect them to be priced the same as retail titles in order to appease retailers.

Don't they do this already? I saw Wipeout, Killzone Liberation and some other stuff on the store.

they already have done this, plus Bleach and Secret Agent Clank are older as well.

Will they be cheaper than their retail counterparts? Any word on pricing and availability in NA?
They can't be cheaper in NA, because it angers retailers if people can buy a product elsewhere cheaper (which is why videos on the store can't be priced cheap). They'll be the same as retail or more. Downloading just gives people a convenience.

Regardless, I'm happy about a PSP Store. I might download more demos to my PSP since it can be a little hassle hooking my PSP up to my PC or PS3 (since my USB cables aren't too long and my setup is weird).

They have been putting older games up lately on the NA Store. Untold Legends the Warriors Code and WTF went up last week. The week before that there was Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. So yeah, they are, but slowly.

If the current PC store pricing is any indication, which I assume it is, I'd rather just buy the UMDs - Personally I haven't found the load times to be that bad, but then again I'm not buying the games known for really bad load times

At the very least I hope it doesn't run as awful as the PC store runs. Certainly the slowest and most non-user friendly site I've ever visited

What else can they add to the PSP? Serious question.

I'd like an option to listen to music while using other functions like, I don't know, playing games or browsing the internet.

I'm sure there's a lot they could do.

The PC store is a website, this looks to be more like the PS3 store which is quite different.

Over the past month or so they have started adding older PSP games to the store pretty consistently. They probably added 10 games in the past month. Seems like a promising trend.

edit: Two more games were added today

You can store the PSP games on your PC.

PSP is so awesome. PSP plus makes resistance Retributionan insta buy. Dual Analogue baby.

I hope the release date for the store is worldwide.

Any word yet if this is a worldwide launch or just Japan? IGN is reporting it as if it's a worldwide launch of October 15th, they never specifically singled out Japan.

Yeah it should be a worldwide launch, all past firmware updates have been released on a worldwide basis, I don't see that changing with 5.0. SCEA/SCEE will probably make an announcement later next week.

On the 14th or 15th you should see firmware 4.2 ready for download -- the same firmware thats shipping with the PSP-3000's.

Sony, since I know you hate 2D and RPGs, can you at least make Yuusha no Kuze ni Namaikida and its sequel available in English for download only if you don't want to put them on disc? There doesn't appear to be much localization needed. Make these exclusive downloads to pimp the new service.

Please?

As someone said, Divx/Xvid support would be cool.
Or being able to multi-task (Music while surfing the internet)
Youtube functionality
Better flash player

That's it off the top of my head.

I'm actually friggin hyped.

A platform is born for me next Wednesday.

Dito - but when can we expect the service to launch in europe ?

Does this mean PSN support for PSP? It would be cool if you can see what your friends are playing and send messages from PSP to PS3 and in vice versa.
