I finally received the much ballyhooed 6.2 software update for my DirecTiVo after months of notices that it was "coming soon". The update is being pushed out in intervals. While none of the changes are drastic, the Guide renders much quicker. This is easily my favorite feature, as one of my complaints was the sometimes 10 second wait for one page of channels to appear. The other update includes the ability to split shows in your 'Now Playing' list into related folders. It's useful - considering my TV watching queue can kinda get backlogged. While I know hacked DirecTiVo users will mock such minor improvements, they're improvements no less. Any other GAFers out there still waiting on this update? You may want to do a forced test call if you haven't in awhile. Now let me link the damn thing up to my PC, DirecTV...

Got mine upgraded about a week ago. Definitely noticeably faster now and I like that it groups same shows into one group. Nice improvement.

Yep, I love it. New Guide pages pop up almost instantly instead of the "chug...chug...chug" frustration of before.

My R10 came with that upgrade.. and yeah it was night and day from my old DSR 704... my Hughest downstairs hasn't gotten the upgrade.... how can I tell if I have a unit that will get the software upgrade?

Via DirecTV's website...

Are all DIRECTV DVRs receiving this upgrade?
No. DIRECTV DVR models SONY SAT-T60, PHILIPS DSR6000R, HUGHES GXCEBOT and HR10-250 will not receive the 6.2 software upgrade at this time.

I have a DIRECTV R10 DVR with 6.1 software. Will I receive this upgrade?
No. The 6.1 software on the DIRECTV R10 DVR already includes the 6.2 features such as folders and faster menu scrolling.

Will any of my DVR settings be changed as a result of the upgrade?
Yes, some of your settings or preferences will be changed back to the factory default settings as a result of the upgrade. These include: "Favorite Channels," "Channels You Receive," "Spending Limits" and "Clear Channel Banner Quickly."

My DirecTivo went belly up two weeks ago. Then DirecTv sent me a replacement for *only* 50 bucks. The replacement was refurbished and aparently they didn't fix whatever was wrong with it. So now I wait for another replacement.

Series 1 boxes won't get the upgrade. Series1 boxes are older PowerPC based boxes and running an entirely different (and slower) CPU architecture. 3.x is the last software upgrade S1 Tivos (DirecTivo or StandAlone) will ever receive. And for those wondering, no you can't even hack a different version onto your box. versions 4.x+ were never even written for the PPC based systems. They are considered end of life (except for maintenance). Though obviously they will still work for a long time to come.

All S2 DirecTivos will supposedly see this. This INCLUDES (supposedly) the HD-Tvio as well (even though it isn't officially mentioned). Hackers have already gotten 6.2 running on the HD-Tivo, though it requires a ton of work as the current 6.2 upgrade slices don't include a bunch of spepcfic stuff for the HD unit (They are non-HD upgrade slices. duh.)

I am currently running a S1 DirecTivo and an HD-Tivo, so needless to say I haven't seen the 6.2 upgrade up close yet (no date on the HD-Tivo upgrades).

and for the brave hackers out there, if you get the 6.2 upgrade, you CAN turn on all the HMO features through hacks. All are included in the upgrade, just not turned on by DirecTV (multi-room viewing, music downloading, etc)

got it last week. best thing about it is the speed. could care less about the sorting features though (i think you could already do something similiar if you input a code)

You could alternate between date and name sorting with a feature code, but you couldn't enable the grouping stuff.

It's infuriating to realize that HMO is sitting there in the software unlocked, while the two USB ports on the system are basically jus there for show. I need to just hack my box one of these days, but frankly I don't want to go through the trouble in addition to voiding my insurance on it.
