Of course the new R10 Series 2 TIVO just came out as well... Circuit City is carrying it, 70hr, Series 2.x, $99.

On the day after thanksgiving, we went to Best Buy for the usual sales... while waiting in the checkout line, a friend of mine (had DirecTV a few years less than me, but for at least a year or two before they added locals) who came along saw they had DirecTivos in stock for $99. He's been wanting some new ones for his house he just remodeled for the other bedrooms. I looked at the box and noticed it had a sticker that said "Up to 70 hours..." (didn't even know about this, hadn't been following the news) and thought that was odd, maybe some new compression technology? then saw a sticker on the top which mentioned 80gb drive. Wow... not bad for $99... so I told him (considering he was going to other stores and looking at $79 for refurb 35 hour units) he should pick one up as it was a hell of a deal. Went to pay for it and a $50 mail in rebate popped up along with his receipt.

I don't know if it was a fluke or if that's standard, but that's a hell of a deal.

The DirecTivo units will work, but keep in mind, if you care about having up to date stuff, DirecTV is actually phasing out the TiVo units and getting ready for their own. I'm sure it will still work with your machine, though.

It's $5 a month regardless of how many DirecTivo units you have. It's free if you get their premium packaging. It's too bad they don't offer lifetime anymore. My older DirecTivo box is lifetime which means I can add Tivos without paying anything extra.

Either way, $5 a month is well worth it. I don't know anyone who has used it and then felt it wasn't worth it.

I was gonna take advantage of this deal til I saw that the new R10 came out today.
