DirectX 9.0c released

Yeah, I saw it a couple of days ago.

I haven't installed it yet because (1) I'm still on my vacation, and (2) it installs the .NET Framework alongside DirectX9.0c. I don't want that shit on my computer!

Bad, bad MicroSoft

Eh? What's so bad about the .NET framework? It's just freaken runtime files for gosh sakes :/ It's not going to broadcast how much porn you own to everyone on the internet.

My PC, My choice as to what gets installed on it.

Whats wrong with being able to choose whether or not you want it?

Or is .NET now a requirement for DirectX?

Well, the time I installed the .NET framework on my computer it made it slower than thick shit. Needless to say, I don't want it again...

I know it improved my framerate in some games so that now I can take FRAPS movies more easily...at least I think it did...can't remember how bad the FR was before when I used Fraps...

I just remember it made playing the game hard...and now I can do movies like this one :D

Damn, I can't even install it. It claims that it isn't verifed by Microsoft and simply won't get past the extraction of the files.

I think I'll wait till I get Doom 3. Benchmark before and after. And if necessary reformat the hard drive if it's causing issues.

You wouldn't turn down installation of the C runtime libraries would you? .NET is basically a really really fancy C runtime library.

I think DirectX now exposes an API through the CLR, so you need the .NET runtime.

Oh I know what it is, I already have it installed due to it's use by a few racing-game mod util writers for rapid app development. And I have to fight with .NET Compact Framework (arrghg!) for a Pocket PC app I'm knocking up. :p

I was just responding to Tenguman's post, philosophically I do't like having extra shit on my PC I don't need, if it becomes a requirement for something I want to use/install then thats a different matter. I just don't like having un-necessary software forced on me. (Not this case in particular.)

This man speaks the truth.

I installed 9.0c and tried out Far Cry, loading was the same but when the loading was done my PC rebooted...wtf? system recovery says it recovered from a critical error but 9.0c is still installed and everything is working as it did before. no improvement in framerate or loading, image quality or otherwise

meh
