Eastwood - Go Ahead, Make My Video Game

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fans everywhere will be judging how lucky they feel now that Clint Eastwood is bringing the Dirty Harry franchise to video games.

Eastwood will lend his voice and likeness to reprise his internationally famous role of Inspector Harry Callahan. Even more significantly, the Academy Award winner is consulting on key creative aspects of the game design.

"This will be an opportunity to satisfy the many requests over the years to continue the Dirty Harry legacy, only now in the video game medium," Eastwood said. "Creating Dirty Harry video games will also introduce this memorable film character to new generations on a medium they appreciate."

Eastwood's Malpaso Prods. banner is partnering on the project with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which is overseeing development of what will be the first title in a game franchise.

The project is in an early stage, so no release date has been set. However, all of the franchise's titles will be for the imminent next generation of consoles such as Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox.

Wow, awesome.

I really hope the final game turns out good. If they can capture the atmosphere of the movies, that would be beyond excellent. I love those movies :)

You are all trying to excentricize me! :lol

Well, the plot is too simple, the character sure is interesting enough to make a good game. But the movies, the plots are too simple, too boring, but the character could really make a great videogame.

So what you're saying is... the plot is too simple but the character gould make a good videogame?

The plot in the movies. The first movie, Harry has to settle a kidnapping. Stories nowadays have evolved. But the famous quotes and moment, and Harry's (Clint Eastwood) attitude, is what made the character influencial, and fondly remembered today. So that could be good, I just stated the old movies showed their age, and that the plot would have to be more intricated.

Wonder if Mindscape still owns the rights...

Stories have evolved? That's such a generic statement to make... SOME movies have more complex stories today... but a whole host don't.

I mean, a movie where it's just a kidnapping with blackmailing, along with a few encounters, that is quite rare nowadays.

Well Eurogamer had that F.E.A.R. interview and it was hinted strongly that Monolith (Or whatever they're called today (Was the name changed after the WB buyout?)) was developing a second title that was for consoles. If Monolith is doing it and Eastwood is voicing it, this has massive potential.

EDIT:

Developer = The Collective

Where did you see this?

Foundation 9 Entertainment, Inc., the largest independent developer in North America, announced today that it is officially moving into development for next-gen consoles in a number of its studios.

Already with a next-gen title based on the Dirty Harry franchise being developed by The Collective in Newport Beach, Foundation 9's Backbone Emeryville studio is also working on an unannounced next-gen project, and Pipeworks and Backbone Vancouver are delving into next-gen development as well.

"We're excited to be taking this step up to develop and deliver the highest quality titles for the next-gen consoles," said Foundation 9 Co-President Douglas Hare. "We plan to carry our huge success on the current generation of consoles onto the next, creating great games based on licensed and original IP."

In addition to these projects for next-gen consoles, the company is also hard at work on nearly 30 titles for all current platforms across its five major studios.

Both The Collective and Backbone Emeryville are currently in the middle of a large recruitment drive in response to the large number of projects in development.

Never doubt Mr_Furious. Never.

Jim Carrey lip syncing "Welcome to the Jungle" while a mannequin vomits = American cinema's greatest achievement.

Screw Dirty Harry, what we need is a Death Wish game! Paul Kersey needs to get revenge for his family on random 80's street punks!

Open ended of course so while I'm trying to find the dudes that killed my wife and daughter I can randomly hunt down rapists and purse snatchers and deliver some justice while dressed as a bum. Of course I'd have to try and avoid a nosey reporter who is just a few pieces close to putting the puzzle together and finding out I'm the vigilante. All the while trying to lead a normal life until my new girl gets killed and I have to go back to my old ways!

Did Jotaru get banned for not appreciating the nuances of the Dirty Harry movies?
No, he got banned for classic threads like this My brother is beating the fuck out of me again (huge text warning)

And posts like this
I am sorry folks, but my eyes are killing me right now. And it's getting morbid, while you try to help me you make me feel bad. Please stop doubting me and beat dead horses, such things make me feel sad to no end, I'd just hope people would understand me, but I am always misunderstood. Don't worry for me, I'm strong people.

I will stop for a few moments to get some rest. Some of you are getting this messy folks. :(

I have no reason to doubt the guy about his condition and he's a nice person to talk to, but some of that was just too much.

Sorry, I didn't explain his condition.

If true, that's just stupid.

Exactly.

He should first be forced to watch all of the Dirty Harry movies. If he STILL doesn't appreciate them, then he should be banned.

Like someone else pointed out, this won't be the first Dirty Harry videogame. But I suppose nobody does research anymore.

Well it doesn't say it's the first Dirty Harry video game, just that they intend it to be the first in a franchise ("a franchise" too, not "the franchise"). You could say Mario Party 1 was a first in a franchise of games, even though it's not the first in the Mario franchise.

I think the implication is that they plan on a series of games coming relatively soon (over the next 2 to 3 years), that will be at least loosely connected to one another, and any prior games will be completely disregarded.
