I'm okay with anyone saying it's a Game of the Year (not personal Game of the Year, but general majority Game of the Year) contender, but I would like to actually discuss why or why not.

The actual gameplay videos look like more of the same from the first two games, which were both really good, but certainly not Game of the Year material. Anyone who feels that way is likely a massive fanboy.

I would never say that a game can't be ones personalGame of the Year. But, again, it feels disingenuous to suggest that when people generally call a game GOTY that they only saying that's it's their personal one, unless they specifically call that out. Especially just as a semantic, and unnecessary given that I think it will be good, defense of a game.

Again, I see no logic in your statements. GOTY has no universal/unique meaning. When we say the word goty, it's almost always personal unless specified that its a goty at a show/publication. If I say Ana de Armas's ass is AOTY I dont expect, nor imply that its for everyone. That'd be absurd.

I don't think any of it was contradictory though. I do think the game will be good, I do not think it will be Game of the Year. I did feel that I had to continuously define, with greater and greater granularity, what Game of the Year means due to others being disingenuous (I hope) with their replies.

That's all logically consistent.

Genuine response: The issue is that your standards would mean GoTY games should always be the innovators and we have seen on multiple occasions for this to not be the case. Sometimes GoTY is just a really, really, really well polished game that people enjoyed front to back. There are a lot of innovators in the indie space that don't even get mentioned in GoTY conversations.

Personally, I think Game of the Year should be based on, contrary to what critics like to say, the sum of its parts and how well those parts will hold up over time. In that respect, Starfield should come out on top due to having more to do and see, in addition to having an actual story.

Personally, I think Game of the Year should be based on, contrary to what critics like to say, the sum of its parts and how well those parts will hold up over time. In that respect, Starfield should come out on top due to having more to do and see, in addition to having an actual story.

I mean... it's the same as people who watched literally any gameplay of Starfield and thought it would be a gamechanger. It looked and sounded like Fallout in Space, yet people were trying to call it a Game of the Year. That was clearly a case of fanboys hoping that Xbox could pull out a massive win. This is the same as that, with Sony (especially because Sony hasn't had that strong of a year).

Lets say Spider Man 2 wins GOTY, still not gonna make me want play that games since I'm not in to Marvel/DC comic crap. Only one reason I watch VGA shows, because of trailers and nothing else.
