I'm okay with anyone saying it's a Game of the Year (not personal Game of the Year, but general majority Game of the Year) contender, but I would like to actually discuss why or why not.
The actual gameplay videos look like more of the same from the first two games, which were both really good, but certainly not Game of the Year material. Anyone who feels that way is likely a massive fanboy.
This. I got banned from the Brunette thread because I posted a picture of Joan Collins. Did I make a thread moaning about it and arguing Joan Collins still being a GILF?
No. I grew some balls, moved on and fapped to Joan Collins.
That's legitimately how I feel about those games. And I'd have been willing to discuss why, with genuine opinions, if anyone had asked. If only we could all strive for your level of discourse.
Oh wait. Never mind.
I would never say that a game can't be ones personalGame of the Year. But, again, it feels disingenuous to suggest that when people generally call a game GOTY that they only saying that's it's their personal one, unless they specifically call that out. Especially just as a semantic, and unnecessary given that I think it will be good, defense of a game.
Those ducks will set things right.Aye, the Beagle Boys bought NeoGAF right from under me!
Oh.Yes.
The level of discourse is below the basement as soon as you use terminology like thatThat's legitimately how I feel about those games. And I'd have been willing to discuss why, with genuine opinions, if anyone had asked.
Imagine not caring about your passionImagine being butthurt from being banned from a thread. Move onto the next one.
I wish that for you too. Life's too short to not have free time dedicated to things in which you're interested.I wish my life was so full of free time that I can get banned from a thread discussing a videogame featuring a man who thinks he's a spider and then create a new thread as if we are supposed to seriously discuss the severity or lack thereof of said offense that lead to you getting banned in the first place.
Genuine response: The issue is that your standards would mean GoTY games should always be the innovators and we have seen on multiple occasions for this to not be the case. Sometimes GoTY is just a really, really, really well polished game that people enjoyed front to back. There are a lot of innovators in the indie space that don't even get mentioned in GoTY conversations.I don't think any of it was contradictory though. I do think the game will be good, I do not think it will be Game of the Year. I did feel that I had to continuously define, with greater and greater granularity, what Game of the Year means due to others being disingenuous (I hope) with their replies.
That's all logically consistent.
lol....bullshit
Personally, I think Game of the Year should be based on, contrary to what critics like to say, the sum of its parts and how well those parts will hold up over time. In that respect, Starfield should come out on top due to having more to do and see, in addition to having an actual story.
I disagree. The language is strong to reflect my opinion on the genre. Writing doesn't have to be rote. The level of discourse is below the basement as soon as you use terminology like that
What lolImagine not caring about your passion

I mean... it's the same as people who watched literally any gameplay of Starfield and thought it would be a gamechanger. It looked and sounded like Fallout in Space, yet people were trying to call it a Game of the Year. That was clearly a case of fanboys hoping that Xbox could pull out a massive win. This is the same as that, with Sony (especially because Sony hasn't had that strong of a year).
"interested"I wish that for you too. Life's too short to not have free time dedicated to things in which you're interested.
Do I really, really have to define Game of the Year again, in context? Why do you choose to ignore that?lol....bullshit
If that’s a main hobby of this guy and it is certainly for a lot of us, then wouldn’t being taken away from social discourse on your fav topic be potentially even more hurtful than not playing the game? What lol
Imagine your passion is arguing with strangers about videogames you have absolutely no stake in.Imagine not caring about your passion

Social aspect is very important. We as humans are social and sharing our hobbies with others are extremely important. Be that streaming, forums or posts
You REALLY can’t imagine that people are passionate about their games on possibly the most enthusiast forum?!I cant understand why people love to go this heated argument over what will win GOTY......who the fuck cares!? My GOTY based on the games I enjoyed, I dont give rat ass what VGA shows consider GOTY.
Lets say Spider Man 2 wins GOTY, still not gonna make me want play that games since I'm not in to Marvel/DC comic crap. Only one reason I watch VGA shows, because of trailers and nothing else.
Imagine thinking Forspoken is a good looking game.Imagine not caring about your passion
Imagine thinking it’s not because you believe stupid memes.Imagine thinking Forspoken is a good looking game.
Yeah, I was seemingly wrong about that. The critics have seemingly spoken and none of Starfield's combined features will outweigh the fanfare of Tears' sandbox. He's mourning, don't go too hard on him:

There is nothing wrong with passion but most of GOTY so called "discussion" boil down to flashing meta score at each other and faboysim comments and it ends when bunch of them get banned from thread......I'm sorry thats not "passion" thats just straight up stupidity. You REALLY can’t imagine that people are passionate about their games on possibly the most enthusiast forum?!

It’s fantastic looking and playing game. Not only good. Don’t be so petty or I will rap battle your ass and then your mom
I gave specific reasons for thinking that, based on my own experience with previous Fallout games. I would've had the same opinion if the game had been third-party.Well, you said it yourself:
