Films that are bastardized remakes because the hacks who make them don't have a creative bone in their body. Or having the rat house buy everything so they can further prove they don't care... Disney buying fox? Sure we get all our precious super hero films in one place now joy!

Best proof of this was the literal silence from many so-called "progressive" fans and shills on social media over the Mulan actress degrading the Hong Kong protesters. Suppression to the max, helped in no small part by Disney because while that actress probably secured a great BO for the movie in China, they knew it could've probably wrecked the BO for the movie stateside.

But they had nothing to worry about; the so-called "progressive" fans and shills buried their head in the sand over it anyway; can't upset Papa Disney. I just think if they're willing to stand up against other injustices (well, seems they mainly only care about LGBT injustices these days, but not in the parts of the world where LGBT rights are actually endangered, funnily enough), a true progressive would care about injustices against all types of people, even if their favorite company is somewhat enabling that to happen.

But these are the same people who measure a story's creative value based on how much money it rakes in at the BO (like they're bean counters), use the threat of financial ruin via "cancelling" to force those with different opinions to mesh with their groupthink, and other things mainly driven by...money.

I feel kinda bad for the Disney fans who are actual progressives, or those who are genuine fans outside of doing so to make a political statement, though I imagine the number of them are extremely small compared to the fake progressives and shills for the company. Well at least the for the former; the latter would probably include "normies" (ugh term) and well there are plenty of them, those politically innocent souls.

Disney is evil and I largely agree OP. I stopped supporting their modern work and the only cash they see from me is when I buy an older film.

Their animation content was better decades ago. Disney literally made their name off of hand drawn animated content, now they produce absolutely none. Why? Too expensive? Give me a break.

I remember last year when Marvel made a big deal about not doing business in the state of Georgia bc of their abortion law. Yet they actively pursue China where they are committing IRL atrocities on an unheard of level, keeping millions of minorities imprisoned and harvesting their organs. The Canto Bight shit was the moment I knew all was lost. "These people are evil cos they profit from war" yeah the balls on this giant company to think they can make a statement like that lol that was probably the moment I decided to not give these pricks any more of my money ever. Amazed I didn't walk out of the theater like lol I'm not going to pay to hear this shit from these people

I think you can have political commentary in Star Wars. You just have to right that shit in the right way that doesn't detract from the space opera. Lucas could have done that in the Prequels but he was out of his depth. He could have written an overarching plot regarding the corruption of the Galactic Republic leading to the creation of the Empire but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

i mean, he did it, no "could have" about it. that's what the PT is. we see it from many viewpoints, the Jedi, the senate, senators like Padme, manipulators like Palpatine, etc. him directly referencing W was a masterstroke. rewatching the PT is super interesting cos of all this stuff.

you can obviously have politics in Star Wars, they have been there since the beginning, since Lucas was working on Apocalypse Now. Canto Bight was just a shitty corporate package version of politics. like why are we upset at this random casino, how come these are the focus of our ire, rather than the people kidnapping child soldiers or whatever? Finn was cut off from his family and raised to kill yet seeing these people get rich should be the thing that turns him?

it's like being rich is secretly the goal and it shouldn't be THESE people who profit, it should be our heroes! (note how much they ooh and awe over the place). where the money is going is the important thing. corporate wokism at it's finest. it's because "they both buy from the same providers" is the kind of weak ass do-nothing, say-nothing political criticism corporate media loves. it is whataboutism that absolves you from doing anything because you are above it all.

Perhaps, but IMO he didn't do enough of it. I mean, I don't want political shenanigans that are on the same level of Game of Thrones or even perhaps, Dune (a big influence on Lucas obviously). This is still a fantasy space opera aimed at young boys after all. But I'd still like to see how Palpatine was able play the game of galactic politics in order to rise up as Emperor. I mean, besides him and Padme who are the other politicians we meet in the prequels? Bail Organa? His character was largely just a extended cameo by Jimmy Smits. He contributes nothing to the story except to adopt Leia at the end of Revenge of the Sith.
 
My favorite avenger is captain America. Just the best.

Then Thor, then scarlet Witch and black widow tied. Those 4 have the best storylines in my mind.
 
I really think that deep down the vast majority of SJW's don't really care about any of this shit. It's all about appearances, about coming across as "cool" and "woke" and "one of the good ones".
But in truth they like their entertainment from these big companies, they like the cheap stuff made by people in third world countries with terrible working conditions, etc

I support all the movie studios with my money. I love film I love going to the cinemas.
I only seem to defend Disney movies because no one seems to whinge, bitch and moan about the other corporate overlords or smaller studios like Lionsgate and A24.
