Disney's Encanto teaser trailer

but I'm not going to write it off because the trailers for Coco and Soul made the movies look nearly unwatchable and in the end I absolutely loved both of them

Those were Pixar, who has been falling on their face for years. Coco was their last GOOD movie. Both Soul and Luca were passable.

This is Walt Disney Animation Studios who's been firing on all cylinders. Moana was fantastic (and is face-melting in Dolby Vision) and this brings back Lin-Manuel to do the music.

People need to understand what teasers are. They are literally just a sneak peek at what is. If a teaser doesn't grab you that is A-OK, but there shouldn't be complaints about "what is the story" or "who are these characters and why do I care". That is not the point of a teaser.

I have liked both Disney and Pixars films over the recent years. Soul and Luca were both good, just no where as good as their top tier stuff.
This movies visuals are pretty darn nice and the concept intrigues me, I have no fucking idea what is going on but I want to learn more.

Soul for me was the worst movie of pixar...

Hot take, but Moana is the best Disney film since Mulan. Maybe since Lion King.

That soundtrack fucking bangs.

Looks like fun, my only question is---is it based on any particular myth, folktale, classical story, etc, like Tangled and Moana? Is there some Colombian folklore about a family with superpowers, or is this just a totally original content with no cultural basis, like Frozen?

I bet it'll be average like most Pixar movies nowadays. Their golden age is long gone.
learn to read. Disney Animation Studios and Pixar are seperate entities, as different as, say, Naughty Dog and Insomniac.

More fucking soulless 3D cgi.
An absurd thing to say on a videogame forum, unless the only game you'd consider soulful is Cuphead.

Oversaturated market with these types of movies. I'm becoming more selective. The production looks good but that's easy enough with a modest budget.

Oversatuated?
Unfortunately these days you have the Disney/Pixar tier. And then you have everything else under them that's average at best.
And Disney only released 2-3 movies a year, I wouldn't call that oversaturated.

Seems to be another lower budget attempt at catering to some specific demographic such as Soul, Raya and Luca.

I don't understand these animated movies nowadays. What's the point of these movies? And if this is supposed to be a latino movie...houses haven't been built like that for decades and no one really dresses like that. Then again, I'm not a child, so I guess the movie isn't supposed to be appealing for me. Happy to skip it.

Ok I'm already bored. Where are the movies that teach you this kind of stuff without crushing it in your face.
I miss Monsters Inc, Wall-E, Up, The Incredibles etc...

I would go with Tarzan that came a year after Mulan.

On topic, I like the visuals of the movie. I'm kinda worried the movie is going to be a bit too cringey on the messaging. I'm also kind of surprised at the fact that we are getting another adult main character so soon after Soul.
