he was great in Belly

I'm a movie snob (I watch most of the award nominees every year) and I agree 100%. I think his performance in Belly is one of the most underrated performances by someone who comes from a non-acting entertainment field.

i think its because, the character is exactly how i imagine DMX if he wasnt a rap artist, and just a high end dealer, he's completely believable in the role

If you were alive in 1998 you should be well aware that every member of the Wu-Tang Clan obliterates X on the mic. The idea of him being a top 10 rapper is complete nonsense.

DMX also has one of the weakest vocabularies in rap:

Rappers, sorted by the size of their vocabulary (pudding.cool)

ahh, yes...remember all those big hit singles and albums by U-God. Wu-Tang is great. but the reason it works is because of their cohesion as a group. sure i like Raekwon and Gza albums. I think i even had an Inspectah deck album. But DMX is obviously at a tier above all of them in a solo sense. It shows in record sales. It shows in legacy.

DMX is my personal favorite of all time and I would place him in the top 5. He's not the best lyricist but he was incredible at telling stories and using his emotions in his music. His first 3 albums in particular were incredible.
