I prefer getting them the old fashioned way, though I still buy CD's whenever I can. I just dont feel like Mp3s are worth the money because I'd rather listen to Cd's on a personal player or at a concert than sitting at my computer.

Its funny how the cool, more laid back artists who dont make lots and lots of money actually don't mind people downloading their music as long as they try to support the band, and the ones who have jewels worth more than your house complain about how people are making them poorer. Besides, if you pay $100 for a Britney concert and she doesnt even sing live...isn't that a bigger crime than downloading her crappy album that you wouldn't buy anyway?

If i wouldn't buy the album, i won't download (or at least keep) the files. There's some exceptions, and those are generally cases where i can't buy a single with the one song i do like, and there's no way of getting a digital file legally (ie iTunes).

I have actually bought 10 songs from iTunes so far. :lol

(although I regularly download albums via IRC).

You do know you can convert MP3s into audio CDs right? Oh that whacky technology stuff. Now if you're saying you prefer original CDs because it's true uncompressed audio, I can agree with you there, but we beggers can hardly be choosers...

I have paid for AACs.

in fact, I reckon that I'm the only person ever to purchase the American McGee's Alice Remixed Soundtrack off of iTunes. It was worth the money.

Well the last time i bough a CD was in 1995 i think

I usually do buy Japanese CDs for some strange reason, i like the cheesy Jpop songs, they have these weird 80s thing to them

Depending on the band and my interest in the album I will do one of the following

A) Infringe it (for stuff I wouldn't normally buy)

B) Buy it on iTunes

C) Buy it in a store

The choice between B and C depends on if something special comes with the album, if it's cheaper on iTunes (usually) and how much interest I have in it. For my favorite bands I cannot download stuff on iTunes. I NEED that physical CD, I don't know why.

I would have bought American Idiot in stores, but I had a $10 iTunes gift card so the album was only $2 for me through iTunse or $10 at Best Buy.

Its not really funny. The cool, laid back artists just say it to sound cool and laid back - andy they know it'll annoy the fuck out of their record label.

Not true. It is possible to be in it for the love of music and not totally for the money. Even some artists who make a decent living off of thier music dont mind. They know not everyone can afford to buy CD's all the damn time.

I honestly have over well over 20 gigs of Mp3's. But I dont listen to most of them. The stuff I do listen to, I support by buying thier merch and attending thier shows.

Pay mp3 services will never fully take off because the lack of selection and the fact that its so easy to download songs without ever being caught.

I buy CD's and then rip tracks into my PC.. what does everyone else do?

That's what I do. Although I do buy the occassional single or rarity off iTunes. Cannot stand the sound quality of MP3s. ACC is only 128kbps, but IMO it's worlds better than even 320 mp3s.

I swindled FutureShop.ca's new music store back in July...signeed up with four email addresses at launch, got $40 of gift cards, and for $40 of free music.

Otherwise, we've got a DC hub on campus. And I buy some stuff on occasion.

Only with my conscience...

In all seriousness, if I stumble across a band I really like, I try to buy the rest of their back-catalogue legitimately, in the hope that it encourages further stuff from them in some tiny way.

However, for the most part I freeload.

I honestly can't remember the last time I bought an album, let alone an MP3. I guess i've prolly never bought an MP3. I used to run a punk rock e-zine (www.punkandjunk.com) and labels would send me all their new CDs so I haven't been buying anything at all. Plus I rip every CD I got, that I was the least bit interested in anyways. Prolly close to 20GB of MP3s
