Do you think we'll ever see another Startropics?

Why did Nintendo abandon this franchise again? It's weird that it didn't even get a snes version. Startropic's layout and design seemed perfect for a snes version.

Well since Nintendo hasn't bothered to make another game since NES, I am pretty much out of hope. I loved the Zelda 1 feeling this game had. I never forget that stupid code though. You could only progress with the submarine if you entered a code that was in the manual, which I didn't have :lol

Same here, fucking horrible

Oh god do I ever hope to see another StarTropics sequel! Hell even a small reference to the franchise like in a Smash Bros game just to show people that Nintendo still remembers it (hell we've had trophies for Famicom Detective Club and Clu Clu Land!)...

And hell, Nintendo should replace Mike Jones with the rapper of the same name, they'd be guaranteed a mint! The new password to start the submarine will of course be 2813308004.

I remember the sub code thing :lol
Motherfuckers gimping us kids who had to rent instead of buy.

Anyways, these were a few of my favorite games when I was a kid, so I'd love to see a new Startropics for the Revolution. Kicking monster ass with a yoyo via the controller sounds like it would be interesting.

speaking of the yoyo, that's a Goonies II ripoff now when I think of it :lol

If I remember correctly, the code itself was on a "letter" of sorts that was in the manual, and would only be revealed when placed in water... Good times :)

I loved this game, the cave music fucking owned. I also was one of the many who got stuck at the sub because I rented the game.

The tile jumping was cool back then but I'm not sure how it would work in 3D, maybe at an 3D isometric vew at an angle like FFT? Though they will probably never make a sequel, I'd like to see the team make another one of these kinds games if they're still around.

I think Sony just found a way to prevent renting games....

"Games with Manuals that require wetting to reveal a code to unlock a door FOR THE WIN!"

Oh wait, we have the I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T.

Sony loses, nevermind.

That's exactly what it was. I remember borrowing the game from a friend and begging him the next day for the letter so I could get the code.

I think the real question is, will we ever see another tradtional Mario game (on console)?

Out of all of Nintendo's dead franchises this is the one I'd like to see them bring back the most.
Yep.

I'm surprised it didn't at least get an NES Classic release on GBA... Sure, Startropics is a lot harder than most Nintendo games are ever allowed to get these days, but difficulty issues didn't stop them from re-releasing Zelda II.

Probably not as long as the pervasive gaming public attitude of "3D is teh l33t" continues.

I think the number one reason we'll never see Star Tropics again is the fact that it was never released in Japan.

Yeah I'm another one that got fucked by the sub code.

However, I re-rented it when I got a Nintendo Power one month that actually listed what the code was. I think it was in their letters section or something.

Actually it is confirmed for Revolution. It will make you go teh wow.
I see what you did there...

But you're probably right. We should be able to play it on Revolution.

Nah, Nintendo's too busy catering to non gamers to even care about petty shit like releasing new versions of good games like Star Tropics, and Punch Out.

Didnt StarTropics already have an actual sequel on the NES itself? Zoda's Revenge?

I remember reading something about it in an EGM back in '94, which I still have btw.

Yes. However I doubt we'll see another new one. Nintendo has so many franchises and games from the NES era they haven't updated or made into sequels. This series is one of them. So is Kid Icarus.

Wrecking Crew and Mach Rider sequels please Nintendo!

Actually, a Mach Rider sequel - turn it into a vehicular combat game similar to Twisted Metal or something... would be an awesome idea.
