Doctor Who 50th Anniversary |OT| Splendid Chap, All Of Them

Here is something.

Why does Matt Smith get a grave. The Tardis at trenzalore is really plot holey. At first I was think ohh it's the FINAL resting place of the doctor but then it's smiths tardis interior and river song has a grave their so it's specifically revolving around smith.

Also, If that is only smiths grave then why is the tardis present. Does capaldi onwards not get a tardis.

Why is a life stream just available to walk into if it's only a portion of his life. He says the can't bury a time lord body so his essence replaces it. Wouldn't capaldi kind of want that?
It's pretty obvious to me, but this goes into what has been spoiled about the Christmas special so I'll use tags.
That is in fact the final resting place of the Doctor, where the 11th dies for good since all his regenerations are used up. The special takes place on Trenzalore and we are going to see the endless bitter war that finishes him, but the main thrust of the plot will probably be about him changing history and getting a new set of regenerations to avert that fate.
That's probably why there were no future Doctors in his timestream when they jumped in.

It's a pretty good habit all things considered, keep it up!

Took entirely too long to learn, though. Long history of asshattery trailing behind me. But hey.

Hell, coming from comic book land (I have to recap Agents of SHIELD) this to me sounds like set-up for a legacy character. But if Smith actually DOES regenerate into Capaldi, then it can't be Legacy. Unless Moffat is going to gin up some sort of new bit of Time Lord Mythology that allows for a completely new person to essentially be borne from you, instead of a new incarnation of the old you.

I dunno. I don't see anything like that happening, but really, all that set up really points towards Moffat putting the last 50 to bed definitively, and starting fresh with Capaldi as the first of the next 50 years. And he's pretty much said that exact same thing, hasn't he?

I read that when he's about to regenerate, he truly believes that's it, he's going to die, and when he regenerates it's a huge shock and series 8's arc will be finding out how he regenerated/gained new regenerations.

That works too, but then it'll be annoying because we won't know what happened for like another year.

Someones posted on Gallifrey Base the following regarding Matts regeneration and another minor spoiler:

- There's a joke in the Christmas special about Matt Smith's similarity to the statues on Easter Island. In fact, they were modelled on The Doctor ("Clara, they just liked me")

- The Doctor's regeneration is triggered by... a stream of orange regeneration energy from a giant crack in the sky. Yes, one of those cracks - the crooked smile from series five. The cracks in time play a big role in the Christmas special.

As per usual, read at your own risk and I dont know how valid this is, it comes from a good spoiler hound.

Hmmmm.. About the second one

I wonder where the orange regeneration energy came from. Another time lord perhaps?

Nope nope nope nope, The Cracks only existed because the universe was dying because the tardis exploded. When Smith flew the pandorica into the heart of the explosion it sent the healing field contained inside to every single point in the universe healing every single crack. Then the universe was rebooted. They don't exist any more because the tardis never blew up. Not in amys bedroom, not on trenzalore. not in sarah janes sons ears, not in torchwood morgue bay 12, not in k9. no on captain jacks chin THEY ARE ALL GONE. Moffat FFS.

Hmm, I've not heard of them before... In any case, the #1 rule with missing episodes is to not believe a word anyone says until the BBC confirms it. Any other path will likely lead to heartbreak.

I want to believe for that Marco Pollo though. :(

Macra Terror can stay missing for all I care.

I really need to watch more Dr. Who, lol. Ive seen a bunch of random ones with Tennant and Smith on Space, usually on Sunday when I'm hungover.

"Tennant to Tennant" was part of the Series 4 finale. You'll know it if you've seen it; it's full of Daleks, and there's so many companions and allies that return that the episode is probably impenetrable to a casual viewer such as yourself. :p

To be fair....almost every single episode I've seen is impenetrable to a casual viewer such as myself :lol

But when I watch it, I mostly enjoy it for the humor and the camp.

Well, that's certainly true as well, haha. Bit different over here, what with everyone being born with intimate knowledge of what a TARDIS is and who all 12 Doctors are. :p

I loved The Stolen Planet/Journey's End, I know it was a bit bloated for its own means, but it was a love letter to a fan like me.

When you stop and think about it series 4 was something else. It was the first series I caught live and I remember just the massive amounts of media hype it got (in the UK at least), never mind the viewing numbers. Those final few eps were the pinnacle of RTD-style spectacle, and while that had its disadvantages, at the time it was crazy.

You find out at the end of the series you're watching which leads into the special.

Just to make it clear: Finish the series, then watch the Youtube link you were given. That order.

Irreverent UK TV nostalgia site TV Cream is running a "50 greatest Doctor Who" moments podcast, ten entries each day this week. Haven't listened yet, but don't expect them to take it too seriously.

It's one of my favourites. Yeah I know, is not the best doctor who in the slightlest, but I had such a great time watching it, vanity doctor and donna erased mind be damned.

Well, the Donna mind erase is rather beautiful, really. It's a great way to write a companion out, and utterly heartbreaking - and fits her perfectly, as she's the life the Doctor in the modern era has had the largest positive impact on, really.

I never thought it was bad, I only discovered how much people hated that on the internet. I think its a very sad moment, poor Donna.

I know the feeling sir.

Congrats on getting this far though. 9 more eps in 54 hours :)?

I'm seeing Day of the Doctor on Monday at the theater, so a bit more time. :)

Issue is finding where to watch series 7 part 2. May have to spend $20 to buy it even though I eventually wanted to buy the whole BluRay collection...
