Thank god David Walliams was not just telling jokes all time, when I saw him I was was like oh god here we go

...... to bad next week it will be "look at me a im a fat guy who like football a every day guy" -_-

I know Cordon is normally annoying, but I think he was great last year and his chemistry with The Doctor was very funny. Good comic pairing.

Yeah, last season going into The Lodger I thought it was going to be terrible because of all the moaning and complaining about Cordon. (I'm from the U.S., so I didn't really know anything about the dude playing Craig.) But I thought the episode was pretty damn good, especially for a stand-alone. I don't mind him showing up again, and I'm especially curious how the ship from The Lodger plays into everything.

I loved the concept of this episode.

I've never been a fan of 'this emotion, or distancing ones self from this emotion' being the key to success in any story. I hate 'love conquers all' etc. Two episodes in a row we've had an emotion or something unquanitifable be the source of the problem.

Strong episode for me, other than that.

This. Where was the emotion of effectively abandoning her daughter? So many threads left open.

I thought the point was that she brought her up as Mels? Whether that's emotionally valid, YMMV, but I *think* that was the intention.

When your kid's a time traveller, it does get a bit complicated to bring her up in a normal fashion.

great episode. Loved breaking her faith in the doctor by what seemed like very honest comments from The Doctor, not faked at all. And 'saving them'. I was quite teary eyed.

Although I'd have thought they'd give her the choice to continue to travel with him with her new, slightly clearer outlook on things. Never mind not treating him like a god, he has still been fundamental in her life since she was young

I didn't enjoy the part where he "severed the food supply".

Amy should be a psychological mess, all things considered yet her faith in the Doctor has remained very consistent throughout the series despite his attempts.

- She had her memory partly digitally erased in Starship UK when the Doctor scolds her for what she couldn't remember.
- Amy has had a weeping angel in her eye, her voice was even controlled by the angel and counting down "9".
- She had her boyfriend be erased in front of her.
- She was killed/shot by Rory.
- There’s all that other memory damage the silence would have done to her.
- Her consciousness was forced into a fake, flesh body. In reality she was pregnant and was stuck in a small room for god knows exactly how long. I’m sure Kovarian/the silence did experiments to her too. The Doctor gave her his mood swings during this time, he pounded her form against a wall and was playing mind games with her about which Doctor was the original or the flesh.
- Obviously the trauma with her daughter…

So I doubt she would lose faith with him. I thought Rory would have faith in Amy but that wasn’t really covered.

Nimon! Also, breaking the companion's faith in the Doctor previously occurred in Curse of Fenric.

Interesting that the hotel was a set, I thought they'd used a real location. Nice twist with Walliams' character, he was actually quite nasty rather than comical.

My standards for next week’s episode can’t be any lower. The Lodger was one of the low points of newwho. The Doctor has all of time and space to explore but this was an episode that tried to celebrate everyday and very mundane people like Craig and Sophie.

The Cybermen really don’t have anything better to do than get involved with a toy store? Aw well, we’ll see how it goes. I’m only watching it for the season finale lead-in. There better be a good reason why Steven Moffat allowed Gareth Roberts to write what looks like a sequel to the Lodger, which is what we’re getting instead of a first part for a traditional two part finale,
and they were annual events.

Hint: If you never see a window, you can pretty much guarantee it's a set.

Little Amy was looking out of a window :p

Now we've had a Nimon reference, I'm sure the Myrrka can't be far behind.

I enjoyed The Lodger, so I'm looking forwards to next week's ep.

I liked The Lodger a lot, personally. My wife wants to skip next week because of the Cybermen :)

We got the 2-part finale at the start of season.

What this episode had was the Doctor explicitly demolishing her cosy little hero-worship from the top down. The Doctor has fixed and made right all the things which may have made her lose faith before, but this was the Doctor systematically stripping her life back to reality, right down to dispensing with her fairy tale surname.

Didn't quite hang together as well as last week's, but I loved the atmosphere of this one. The direction, the ventriloquist dummies, the sound work; all slightly discordant and unsettling.

We'll see Rory again right?

I’ve got to laugh that the BBC announcer made a big deal out of the weeping angels and warned us, for what was just a minor cameo of a couple of seconds where they did squat all. Ha imagine if anyone tuned in just to see the classic villians.

Just caught The Girl Who Waited. Overall....I dunno, it started out excellently, exactly the kind of episode I love, but once they met old Amy it started to slide downhill slightly...the middle third or so was just "good", but the ending where he closes the doors on Old Amy was fantastic.

But "Well then I don't want to travel with you!" was great.

That was an amazing episode. I know some people will disagree but that was the best episode of this series so far.

So the finale is in 2 weeks time then and it wont be a 2 parter. The last few minutes of next weeks episode will probably have a lead in for the finale.

I think its looking very likely that the story wont tbe resolved at the end of this series and will be continued in the next. Theres just too much to resolve in 1 episode.

Oh and DONT look at the IMDB page for the finale. There are massive spoilers in it. Assuming that they are real.

I agree with you, but mainly because it was emotionally powerful (for me at least) and came out of almost nowhere. No rumours of cast leaving in the tabloids etc, episode previewed as a classic standalone with no major implications. Just really nicely done.

(although...given no tabloid leakage, is this just a temp thing? Do they have to bring them back for the finale at least, or can they just revisit the US and shoot it 'vantage point' style so its still 'old' Amy/Rory)?

There were some spoilers about it mentioned in the paragraph in the Radio Times writeup at the start of this half. I won't go comparing, though, because I only know a few casting spoilers, and I don't want to go any further!

I suspect RT wasn't *too* spoilery, given the quotes were direct from the Moff, but if you want to go in completely clean, stay clear of everything.

I *suspect*
it's simply to get them out of the way for the companion-light episode next week; we already did doctor-light with The Girl Who Waited.

I'd say Amy and Rory will have to be in the finale. They are already signed on for another series and the episode will be about their daughter.

It could actually be about them trying to save the doctor from the astronaut. Even though he already knowa what will occur.

I have a really hard time believing they're gone for good, but I also don't really want to see them go back on that. It was a hell of a nice sendoff, a great culmination of both Amy and Rory's character arcs, and really moving to boot. If they're back in the TARDIS every episode next season it'll kind of cheapen this.

Amazing episode, btw. One of my favorites, easily. One of the ones that make me boggle at anyone who doesn't like Amy and Rory.

My guess is they'll be in the finale and then cameo in S7, but not be full time as they are now.

My thoughts as well. It meshes well with the whole "zomg karen gillen is looking for work next year, she's leaving!" followed by her saying "nope, I'll be back next year." Both of these things can be true.

it was in the tabloids... when it was filmed:

Well, that was pretty good. It started off a bit slow (pacing has been a real problem for most of this season), but the second half of the episode was great. The characters all felt fully realized and the story made the most of its setting. That was easily the best episode of the current half-season, and the ending was quite strong. While it wasn't Whithouse's best work, it was certainly better than anything Moffat has written this year.

I don't know. I didn't see it coming, Amy and Rory leaving in this episode.

Great episode with a lot of paralel to the doctor lifestyle and all.

But I can't help but think that the send-off was ....I don't know...flat.
I would have like something more epic, especially with Rory.
They might come back for the finale though (but not having a two-part finale scares me a little with all there is to explain)
