Not sure if it's just a Region 1 thing or not.

I was just setting the sky box to record this weeks episode and I noticed it says episode 5 of 5. is it a error or have they split the season in two? sorry if this has been talked about.

It's been split in two. Christmas Special and then the next 7 episodes early in 2013. Probably Easter... :(

thank you.

that's very disappointing, I was only just starting to get into this series and now it will be gone until Christmas? truly disappointing news. is there a reason for the split? it's rare for uk shows to be split into two.

I thought it was fine, until "I don't want to go." That was just too much. I just wanted to say, "where would you be going?!"

I always loved Ten (he's kind of my Doctor, although I started with Nine), but dude had an ego.

I took that line as the last bit of that. He really liked being Ten, and even though it would still be "him" it wouldn't be. So that's his ego poking through. It's like he liked the idea of sacrificing himself and being all important, but at the end he's kind of like "You know what? This is a bad idea." I think if you stuck all the Doctors in a room together, Ten would totally think he's the best one without a doubt.

I have a feeling that Eleven will be gleeful at his regeneration. He's far more easy-going, I'd say. I don't think he has the same issues that Ten had (I think it can be seen as issues going back to the Time War. Nine had PTSD and didn't really hide it, but I think Ten still had it but hid it under his manic exterior, but they started really poking out after he lost Donna. Then he had to deal with both the Daleks fully returned and then the Timelords, allowing him to get over his issues and spawn Eleven who is like screw all that noise, I'm having fun.)

I kinda like it this way.

The alternative was to have the whole 12 episodes from like April-June, and then no Dr. Who aside from the specials for the rest of the year -_-

It's too bad you can't stick all 11 of them together as themselves just to find out how they would interact. Some are dead. Some would never come back in a million years. But I can totally see Tennant thinking he's all that and a bag of Dalek Bumps.

Ten was also my favorite. I love Eleven, but Ten was really something.

thank you.

You've got plenty of episodes to catch up on in New Who alone. Did you only start with this season or have you seen the other two Smith seasons? Plus you have Eccleston's season and Tennant's three seasons and all his specials. He's got a lot of specials. Including 5 that make up a whole other pseudo season.

That alone would keep you busy until the current season restarts in the Spring.

I had a dream that Ten met Eleven in a weird twist of time and reality (I can't remember if it was the human version of 10 or not) and it was pretty tense between them. The first thing Eleven said to Ten was "I like your work" and it went from there.

Also - while Eleven is more carefree, I'd also say he's more ruthless and less forgiving than Ten.

I'd love 10/11 to meet, purely because I think that they might well struggle to get on. It's a general trait of the Doctor, but those two more than most really both like to be the centre of attention.

I do wonder if we'll get multi-Doctor for the 50th. Really seems like a no brainer. 8-11 would be a really cool nod. Interestingly, Eccleston seems a lot less cold towards the series the more the years go on.

Not even Peterson? Turn in your geek card, stat!

I've been to Titan, I've been to Juno, I can name 80 things that go in jars that you know!

For some reason that is seared onto my memory.

Is it wrong that I'm going to be massively disappointed if they don't do a multi-Doctor story for the 50th? Even if it's just Ten and Eleven, I need to see it.

Extra points if Moffat writes it.

Oh, Moffat will write it. Ideally it'd be The Five Doctors 2, with 7 through 11 meeting up. (As much smack as Ecclestone talks about Who, he's a sucker for a paycheck, and I reckon he'll come crawling back.)

He will write it, I'm sure. 7 could work, too, as he looks quite old in the movie when he cops it and McCoy has aged quite well in general. No earlier, though.

Moffat'll definitely write it. Most people didn't pick this up, but before nuking his twitter account Moffat did tell a fan who asked that there WOULD be an episode on Nov 23rd 2013, the exact day of the 50th.

Looking forward to the biopic as well. Gatiss writes that kind of thing really, really well and has a massive love for the show.

Man it's weird you guys talking about Tennant's departure being heartwrenching or whatever. Everything about that entire sequence of events rubbed me the wrong way, from the ridiculous chinese-fingertrap-plot-device to the "aren't I just wonderful" speech to the jumping from the spaceship to the masterclones to the 20 minute farewell tour to the "I don't want to go" smack in the face.

Ugh.

I totally agree.

I don't remember every Doctor's farewell, but I really thought Christopher Eccleston's was simple and effective. The whole thing is right here.

I really wish the writing in Eccleston's season wasn't so consistently over the map, because I feel he embodies so much of the best qualities I enjoy from the best Doctor performances. He's, to me, a more effective actor.

But that final line?

"Before I go, I just want to tell you... you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I."

Normally that would have passed for cheesy, and it still has those remnants, but I really felt it perfectly encapsulates what the Doctor is and does.

None of these dinosaurs have feathers.

EDIT: AND THE RAPTORS ARE TOO TALL!

Maybe they evolved. Weren't they hanging around for millions of years on that spaceship?

edit: I missed any part where they might have said that the wildlife was in stasis; if that's the case, then I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Oh Karen, you're always so awkwardly giggly on a talk show.

It's always striked me odd how Karen plays such a confident character on Doctor Who, and in real life she seems like the most awkward human being to ever walk on the planet. In an endearing way of course. :)

Them acting skills.

10's death scene is still a tear jerker to me, I find that each Doctor's last lines and death reflect the characterization.
Besides 10's death was mostly reflecting how much we like him and didn't want him to go T^T. STUPID SEXY TEN!

Now drive truckloads of cash to Sexelton and gimme a The 4 Doctors special with 7-11.

It's true! I'm a lesbian and I can't resist him!

From how I understand it, Eccleston fell out with Phil Collinson in a big way, and soured relationships with the other two execs in the process.

Eccleston is very big on the rights of the crew, and if they were being worked to a degree that Eccleston wasn't happy with, he let Collinson know big-style.

It seems what he really hated was how, on set, compared to some of the high brow drama he does, he was just expected to get on with it because the schedule was tight. Like there was never any time between scenes to "find" the character or whatever, things like that. Couple that with a constantly changing budget, last minute reshoots all over the place and things like that... Who is a very chaotic show to film, we know that from all sources - RTD, Moffat, the Producers, the actors, and Series 1 was even worse because nobody quite knew what the show would be. Things supposedly got easier on Series 1 after it started to air and had the first few episodes come off successfully, but by then a tone was set to Eccleston and it was too late. I think he's just a very different kind of actor to who'd normally take on a role in a show like this.

There was some sort of story once about him being very angry about the scripts being changed on the day, via text. It was because of weather, though; it was pissing it down, and the producer/director on set wanted a line in to account for it, and texted RTD and he texted something back. Eccleston was apparently unspeakably mad.

It's definitely a very intense show production-wise, and has always had way less money than it would've if produced by any other company. That puts a lot of strain on the crew and ultimately is what made Eccleston have his falling outs, methinks.

Like I say, though, the further he gets from the role the more complimentary he's gotten. Asked about the 50th earlier this year he said "maybe" as opposed to a flat "I had a great time but no" that he'd stuck to for the previous six years.

I have seen all smith seasons. I haven't watched the others as I've been told they aren't as good. I have watched bits and pieces of the first season of the reboot. I remember an episode where a bin comes to life and eats someone? maybe it was a different show.

to stay on point, have I been given bad advice? are the earlier seasons as good as the current ones?

Yes a bin eats a character in the first episode of the reboot ('Rose'). I would say however that you're missing out, even if some of the earlier episodes of NewWho aren't as good from certain standpoints as Moffatt/Smith (production design is the most obvious). Give them a shot, and see for yourself. There are some really great episodes in those first four years.
