Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

She did say something like "we lived good lives" - so they alluded to it.

I think that's important. If Amy did indeed write the Afterword close to death then we can say that she most likely never did see The Doctor again. Otherwise, all we know right now is that she didn't see The Doctor up until the moment she wrote the Afterword.

Seemed like there were plenty of times in this episode where people weren't looking at Angels but they didn't move.

Because River has a motorbike but The Doctor gets stuck in traffic :p

As far as I know, that only applied to the 1938 that was infested with Angels and included the Winter Quay. Once all that was eliminated by the Paradox, the only reason he couldn't visit the Ponds is because the book said he never visited them (at least until the end of the book). After that, it should be fine.

I'm about to start making charts with straws.

But it's just a book. What if the publishers decided to rewrite the ending to make it more exciting? Sorry, the more I think about this, the weaker it seems.

You're just grasping at straws that aren't there at this point. The book was already proven to be accurate at the point the Doctor and Amy realized it was true. I'm surprised you're nitpicking this when you're not nitpicking the "Yowza" on the chinese vase, which is way more implausible in my opinion, but I thought it'd be much more enjoyable to just go along with it.

I just chalked this up to the fact that they don't have to move if they don't want to.

Watching a making of clip on the website, Moffat mentions that the Christmas special features the return of

The Silurian/human couple/team from A Good Man Goes to War!
They were the best bit of that episode. Immediately 100% more hyped.

Sontaran nurse disagrees. But those two were the second best.

After these last five episodes, I'm looking forward to a fresh beginning. I love the Ponds but it was the right time. Their story had become far too intertwined in the Doctor's life. They ended up being his in-laws!

Was nice seeing the Weeping Angels being Weeping Angels, having that creepy side and that original power instead of outright death, and the fact that they essentially stole 11's companions from him.

Nice to see Moffat not water down an enemy of the Doctor like so many have been over the years where they just stop being dangerous.

Eh, the Sontarans are lame. I prefer their goofier modern style.

I loved them. Each to their own. You can't deny the power decrease that was given to them though. They went from being able to build spaceships with medival age resources and the only Aliens to invade Gallifrey (Pre time war). To losing to UNIT because they switched to copper bullets. Come on.

The thing I'm objecting to is the odd sense of fatalism the Doctor develops from a paperback book.

Sontarans were always a bit rubbish. Tom Baker beat one in a fistfight.

While you're all moaning about plot holes, I'd like to point out that Alex Kingston has a magnificent chest.

But Karen insists romance and racing through space and time do not mix. “I am completely single, 100 per cent single,” she said when asked about men in her life

I have a chance!

I just caught up with it on iPlayer. I literally cannot even believe that they tied it back to The Eleventh Hour. Lovely, really enjoyed that ep. :)

Yeah, I do like that this episode proved the Angels to be still dangerous and creepy. It adds to the mythology that they successfully broke the Doctor away from his companions. None of the other companions leaving really were because of a monster's gambit being successful. While the Angels didn't "win," the Doctor didn't "win" either.

The Angels are pretty tough overall. I mean...so far they've been stopped by getting tricked into an infinite loop, getting sucked into a crack in the universe and being erased from existence, and being destroyed by a paradox. They're made of some tough stuff.

No one was impressed with how they segued to the beginning of the adventure and introduced River? Did not see the book thing coming. Expect lots of gifs with Amy&Doctor with glasses.

Disclaimer: The following opinion was formed immediately after watching the episode. It may not reflect how I will feel about it after I've gotten some sleep. It's like 1am here.

...

What an embarassing piece of shit of an episode. Jesus fuck.

Hey, angels are scary again! Except when not. They really should have clarified which angels are the scary ones. The characters flip-flopped from being scared shitless because an angel was around to not even trying to keep their eyes on one.

And here's River. She says "Husband!" now instead of "Spoilers!" so that's new!

The angels are coming after Rory! Specifically only Rory for some reason! If he could jump off a building, it would create a paradox and save him somehow! Quickly Amy, you jump off the building as well because it's way more dramatic this way!

...and so on and so forth. It seemed like Moffat had an ending written and couldn't wait for everyone to see it so he quickly cobbled together some lazy mess to explain what lead up to the finale.

The episode was so bad that it made me not want to follow this show every week anymore. I'll let the season run out and watch it all in one go because between Moffat taking a dump on a piece of paper and calling it a script there will always be some actually competent writers to write some good episodes. Honestly, can't wait for Moffat to get the hell away from this show. RTD wrote a couple awful endings, but I can't remember an episode of his that made me roll my eyes for the entire runtime. I'd take doctor-Jesus over this any day.

I would just like to say... LOL. That is all.

Just iPlayered.

The tears started in Rory's room, and didn't stop until the end. The Doctor slumped, facing away from the camera as Amy interacted with the old Rory got me bad.

Speaking of which; holy mother of fuck were Smith, Gillan and Darvill amazing in this episode.

Hang on, have to gather myself...

I don't know if this has already been discussed, but (pre-opening spoilers)
what's with the sonic screwdriver-like sound when the doors to the Winter Quay open for the detective?
Maybe it's just a random sound effect but I can't help but feel this is some Flesh and Stone jacket level thing going on.

In any case I think it's a pretty good episode to close the first batch of episodes, although I'm kinda bummed I'll have to wait until Christmas for more Who.

I liked the book/storyline interaction, it's a very Moffaty idea. Was thinking that it was a bit sad that Rory never got to say goodbye, but then realised old Rory did exactly that earlier in the episode.

It was mentioned that there were three deaths, and that this was River's end as well. Can someone please explain this, because I'm not really getting it. And how did that last Angel survive?
I think I have to watch the episode again.

It's definitely not River's end, since we've already seen that. Plus she's off doing her own thing at the end so she's still alive.

Dunno how the last Angel survived, maybe it was there the whole time? They had already been to the graveyard. Either that, or it came with the Doctor/Amy/Rory/River after the paradox.

There are so many ways around the "fixed" time caused by the book/gravestone that it doesn't really make sense for the Doctor to act like it's something that has absolutely happened and can't be changed. What if, after Amy writes the book (or even before, she can write whatever she likes after all) the Doctor comes to pick them up, then goes and plants a fake gravestone in the cemetery with their names on it? No paradox, Amy and Rory are fine.

Having said that, I enjoyed this episode. Think part of what made the Angels work so well again was having them not move on screen again. That was where the 2-parter messed up, in my opinion. Makes them much more sinister when you can't see them moving.
